Maine Debtor-Creditor Law by Dennis M. Patterson

    No full text
Dennis M. Patterson, Esquire, has written a brief, practical guide to selected areas of collection practice entitled Maine Debtor-Creditor Law. Two immediate observations come to mind: first, that I plan to keep a copy of the book in my office library for future reference; second, that I am disappointed that the author omitted reference to several challenging issues that confront the attorney having a regular collection or foreclosure practice. This latter observation is both an indication of the usefulness of the book\u27s treatment of the areas covered and a hopeful invitation to the author to expand on his subject matter in future writings

Character-based phylogeny construction and its application to tumor evolution

    No full text
Character-based Phylogeny Construction is a well-known combinatorial problem whose input is a matrix M and we want to compute a phylogeny that is compatible with the actual species encoded by M. In this paper we survey some of the known formulations and algorithms for some variants of this problem. Finally, we present the connections between these problems and tumor evolution, and we discuss some of the most important open problems

George G. Patterson letter to George B. Christian, September 11, 1920

    No full text
In this letter dated September 11, 1920, George G. Patterson, Chairman of the Republican Headquarters in Blair County, Pennsylvania, writes to George B. Christian, personal secretary of Senator Warren G. Harding. Patterson states that Headquarters successfully registered half of the women in the county to vote, with ninety percent of those women being Republicans who plan to vote for Harding for president in the upcoming election. He requests that Harding visit Altoona if he makes a campaign trip to the northeastern United States. The stationary used for this letter includes the names of all members of the Blair County Republican Headquarters. This letter is part of the Warren G. Harding Papers (MSS 345). This collection includes correspondence, business records, and other materials documenting Harding’s business career as owner and editor-in-chief of The Daily Marion Star, as well as the various stages of his political career. A significant portion of the collection, and what’s available on Ohio Memory, highlights his 1920 presidential campaign, spanning just before publicly announcing his candidacy to handily defeating Ohio Governor James M. Cox in the election. Correspondents include both Ohio and national businessmen, political figures, and ordinary citizens writing with questions, support, congratulatory notes, and campaign advice. Some of the most interesting insights into the tumultuous political climate in the U.S., the extreme factionalism within the Republican Party in Ohio, and Harding’s campaign strategies are described in letters between Harding and his campaign manager, Harry M. Daugherty. Some of the topics addressed include women’s suffrage, Prohibition, the League of Nations, African American representation and issues, and lingering peace negotiations following World War I
