An Evaluation of Bank Workers Welfare in Post Consolidation Era in Nigeria
The bank consolidation exercise that came in form of merger and acquisition or complete buy-over in some cases in Nigeria put the banks in vantage position in terms of increased capital base, competitive strength and arguably improved performance. Furthermore, many scholars had written so much about how the exercise led to employee downsizing through retrenchment, rationalization and cost reduction with other attendant consequences on job security, employee motivation and on the long run decreased productivity. However, there is dearth of research in terms of bank workers welfare after the consolidation exercise. Hence this study examined employee’s welfare after the banking reforms in Nigeria. A sample size of four hundred and seven (407) employees from ten (10) selected banks in Ilorin metropolis was purposively chosen in order to achieve the objectives of the study. Primary data were obtained with the aid of questionnaire administered to bank workers. Secondary data were obtained from the official book of the various banks. Data were analyzed with appropriate descriptive and inferential statistical tools. Results revealed that employee welfare were compromised in spite of the increase in capital base that accrued to the banks from the consolidation exercise. Consequently, the study recommended that regulatory agencies and managements of banks should incorporate factors of job security and motivational incentives in subsequent reforms. Nigerian Immigrants and Xenophobic Violence in South Africa
The author argues that in many parts of Africa identity-politics and “nativist” narratives link migration to crime by making mobility a contentious political issue. This study exemplifies this by examining the experiences and adaptation of Nigerian migrants in South Africa and the confrontation with xenophobic violence this frequently involves. In South Africa, stereotypic reproduction represents the past in the present within the context of nation-building and contradictions of “African Renaissance.” Despite the leading roles Nigeria and South Africa are playing in African politics and business, the xenophobia against African immigrants undermines the prospect of regional and continental development
CORRELATION OF AGE AND SEX IN RELATION TO SERUM CALCITONIN, CREATININE AND URIC ACID ON CKD PATIENTS WITH THYROID ABNORMALITY COMPLICATION
Abstract: This study evaluated the serum calcitonin, creatinine and uric acid levels in chronic kidney diseases (CKD) complicated by dysthyroidism. A total of 119 participants were recruited in this study, majority of who were males. Majority of the participants in this study were between the ages of 30 to 68 years with a median of 49 years. The high prevalence of CKD among this age group can be attributed to underlying pathologies such as hypertension, diabetes or both. The level of serum calcitonin, T3, T4, TSH,creatinine and uric acid of study participants according to age range, for age 41 years, Calcitonin(71.2±11.3), T3 (0.765±0.0396), T4 (7.45±0.255), TSH (8.11±0.529), Creatinine (7.01±0.66), Uric Acid (13.4±0.801).from the result of this study calcitonin, creatinine and uric acid proved to be statistically significant (p≤0.05), however T3, T4, TSH showed no statistical significance.
Keywords: serum calcitonin, uric acid levels, chronic kidney diseases (CKD).

SVM Ransomware Detection Using Machine Learning Algorithm: Author\u27s Country: Nigeria
With the advent and subsequent explosion of the internet, global connectivity has been achieved, and is on the rise. This provides a host of advantages such as connectivity and communication, information broadcast and transmission, amongst others. This however introduces a new set of challenges: the safety and protection of these communication channels amongst them. Information has always been power, and the widespread mature of information only results in the widespread attempts to procure it, sometimes via illegal channels. In view of this, this research aims at detecting Crypto-ransomware and locker ransomware. Data was collected from an open repository and cleaned. The cleaned data was then split into tests, train sets and validation which was used to train a number of ML models based on the: Random Forest algorithm, Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Gradient boosting algorithm. Ransomware is one of the well-known ways and frequent use which cyber-attackers use in infecting their victims, either through phishing or drive download. Attackers will create an email pretending to be from a genuine resource and send it to their targeted victims. However, this research illustrated how to combat crypto-ransomware and locker ransomware. Implementing the machine learning algorithm, the system can detect ransomware under 30’s, giving computer users over 90% assurance of their system for ransomware free
A reliable technique to study nonlinear time-fractional coupled Korteweg–de Vries equations
© 2020, The Author(s). This paper employs an efficient technique, namely q-homotopy analysis transform method, to study a nonlinear coupled system of equations with Caputo fractional-time derivative. The nonlinear fractional coupled systems studied in this present investigation are the generalized Hirota–Satsuma coupled with KdV, the coupled KdV, and the modified coupled KdV equations which are used as a model in nonlinear physical phenomena arising in biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering. The series solution obtained using this method is proved to be reliable and accurate with minimal computations. Several numerical comparisons are made with well-known analytical methods and the exact solutions when α= 1. It is evident from the results obtained that the proposed method outperformed other methods in handling the coupled systems considered in this paper. The effect of the fractional order on the problem considered is investigated, and the error estimate when compared with exact solution is presented
Mapping the activities of faith-based organizations in development in Nigeria
The nature, scale and activities of faith-based organizations (FBOs) remain poorly understood and documented in African countries. This paper reports on a preliminary 'mapping' of FBOs in development in Nigeria carried out as part of a larger research programme on Religions and Development
Efficient analytical techniques for solving time-fractional nonlinear coupled Jaulent–Miodek system with energy-dependent Schrödinger potential
© 2019, The Author(s). In this paper, we present analytical-approximate solution to the time-fractional nonlinear coupled Jaulent–Miodek system of equations which comes with an energy-dependent Schrödinger potential by means of a residual power series method (RSPM) and a q-homotopy analysis method (q-HAM). These methods produce convergent series solutions with easily computable components. Using a specific example, a comparison analysis is done between these methods and the exact solution. The numerical results show that present methods are competitive, powerful, reliable, and easy to implement for strongly nonlinear fractional differential equations

The burden of visual impairment and blindness from vitreoretinal diseases: A Nigerian tertiary hospital retina unit experience
Objective: The objective of this study is to determine the burden of visual impairment and blindness from vitreoretinal diseases in the retina unit of a Nigerian tertiary hospital. Methodology: A prospective, cross‑sectional study on all consecutive new patients presenting with vitreoretinal diseases (VRD) at the vitreoretinal (VR) clinic at Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex, Ile‑Ife from May 2011 to April 2014. Patient’s bio‑data, presenting complains, Snellen’s or tumbling E‑chart visual acuity unaided, slit‑lamp examination of the vitreous and fundus with +90/+78D, binocular indirect ophthalmoscopy as well as slit‑lamp examination of anterior segment, and applanation tonometry findings were recorded in predesigned pro forma. Visual acuity was categorized using WHO/ICD. The data were analyzed using the SPSS software version 16 for simple frequencies and presented. Results: Of 2025 eyes reviewed, 112 (49.8%) eyes were visually impaired and 67 (29.8%) were blind. Eight (5.2%) patients were bilaterally blind. Diabetic retinopathy was the most common cause of bilateral blindness (25%), and concurrently, the most common VRD (29.8%). All categories of visual loss were more prevalent among the aged ≥65 years. More males (62.2%) were blind from VRD. Cataract was the most common ocular comorbidity seen (43.6%). Conclusion: The burden of visual impairment and blindness from VRD is large; eye health education for early presentation for eye care as well as the development of VR care with infrastructure upscale to include optical coherence tomography, laser, and surgical care for prompt diagnosis and treatment will be of benefit in reducing the burden
