In Spite of the well-known impersonality of archaic epic poetry Apollonius of Rhodes in some passages of his poem deliberately infringes this convention to comment events or actions. Although these interventions don’t provide us with biographical details of Apollonius’ life, the poet shows a precise pessimistic attitude towards life, love and human existence. Moreover the author probably inherits from Pindar narrative technique the use of “ break-off formulas” which represents an original contribution of the Alexandrian poet to the renewal of traditional epic poetry. Manuello Patrick. The aim of the research is to identify new implementation strategies for earth constructions using additive manufacturing techniques. The preliminary part of the study was about the analysis of traditional earth constructions in Abruzzo (Chieti province) with a reflection about coverage systems weaknesses. To provide a coverage issue solution, Nubian vault construction principles were rediscovered by the author. As a result, a massive organism completely made of earth has been designed: it is a 3D printed rural lamione and the application of it in widespread rural areas represents a museal complex itself. The study concludes with reflections about digital fabrication opportunities in the COVID and post-COVID er

This paper focuses on Greek and Roman testimonies on Apollonius of Rhodes in order to clarify what the Ancients knew about the poet of Argonautica. By analysing a representative number of authors we find out that ancient writers rarely refer to Apollonius' life or to the composition of the poem. What rather seems to have interested them was not only the references to the Argonauts legends which the authoritative poem contained but also the not survived erudite works (in particular the κτίσεις). Some authorsalso (Dionysius Longinus' On the Sublime, Quintilian, Fronto, Gellius, Macrobius and Servius) mentioned Apollonius in passages concerning literary questions and useful to get an idea of some aspects of ancient reception of the poem. This paper focuses on Greek and Roman testimonies on Apollonius of Rhodes in order to clarify what the Ancients knew about the poet of Argonautica.

Dans off. In off.

Is the shroud of turin in relation to the old jerusalem historical earthquake?

Phillips and Hedges suggested, in the scientific magazine Nature (1989), that neutron radiation could be liable of a wrong radiocarbon dating, while proton radiation could be responsible of the Shroud body image formation. On the other hand, no plausible physical reason has been proposed so far to explain the radiation source origin, and its effects on the linen fibres. However, some recent studies, carried out by the first author and his Team at the Laboratory of Fracture Mechanics of the Politecnico di Torino, found that it is possible to generate neutron emissions from very brittle rock specimens in compression through piezonuclear fission reactions. Analogously, neutron flux increments, in correspondence to seismic activity, should be a result of the same reactions. A group of Russian scientists measured a neutron flux exceeding the background level by three orders of magnitude in correspondence to rather appreciable earthquakes (4th degree in Richter Scale). The authors consider the possibility that neutron emissions by earthquakes could have induced the image formation on Shroud linen fibres, trough thermal neutron capture by Nitrogen nuclei, and provided a wrong radiocarbon dating due to an increment in C14, 6, content. Let us consider that, although the calculated integral flux of 10^13 neutrons per square centimetre is 10 times greater than the cancer therapy dose, nevertheless it is 100 times smaller than the lethal dos

Disentangling the role of gray matter volume and concentration in autism spectrum disorder: A meta-analytic investigation of 25 years of voxel-based morphometry research

Despite over two decades of neuroimaging research, a unanimous definition of the pattern of structural variation associated with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) has yet to be found. One potential impeding issue could be the sometimes ambiguous use of measurements of variations in gray matter volume (GMV) or gray matter concentration (GMC). In fact, while both can be calculated using voxel-based morphometry analysis, these may reflect different underlying pathological mechanisms. We conducted a coordinate-based meta-analysis, keeping apart GMV and GMC studies of subjects with ASD. Results showed distinct and non-overlapping patterns for the two measures. GMV decreases were evident in the cerebellum, while GMC decreases were mainly found in the temporal and frontal regions. GMV increases were found in the parietal, temporal, and frontal brain regions, while GMC increases were observed in the anterior cingulate cortex and middle frontal gyrus. Age-stratified analyses suggested that such variations are dynamic across the ASD lifespan. The present findings emphasize the importance of considering GMV and GMC as distinct yet synergistic indices in autism research. © 2024 The Author
