Wilder/Dargent Collection about Peruvian Author Ricardo Palma (1833-1919)
No full textRicardo Palma (1833-1919) was a literary figure in Peru as well as a leader in culture and politics. He played a role in the War of the Pacific (1879-1883), in the rebuilding of the National Library of Peru destroyed in that war, and in the founding of the Peruvian Academy of Language. His principal work, the Tradiciones Peruanas, was read widely throughout Iberian America and influenced writing styles. The Wilder/Dargent Collection assembles all of the published writings of Palma, either as facsimiles of first editions or as later republications. Added to this is a gathering of scholarly and journalistic writing on the Palma legacy during the century after his death

Periodic averaging with a second order integral error
No full textInternational audienceIn this paper, we study a variation of second order periodic averaging that allows an asymptotic reconstruction of the " fast " variable. Our goal is to present a simpler method to obtain a second order estimate based on changing the initial condition of the averaged system and approaching a " moving " average of the solutions instead of the solutions themselves. This idea was already present in a publication by the first author, in the context of solving an optimal control problem with averaging techniques and application to low thrust orbit transfer. Namely, adding well suited second order terms to the average system, properly choosing the initial condition for the average system and measuring errors " in the mean " instead of point-wise yields an errors of order 2 with respect to ε on the slow variable and of order 1 for the fast variable
Marine green algae (Chlorophyta) from the north coast of Papua New Guinea
No full textThe marine benthic green algae of the north coast of Papua New Guinea (mainly from Madang province) are documented, based on collections made by the first author between 1980 and 1990. All records (118 taxa) are listed with bibliographic, taxonomic, nomenclatural and biogeographical notes. Identification keys are added for genera represented by at least two species. Representatives of the Pseudocodiaceae and some Udoteaceae are illustrated. The green algal flora of the north coast appears to be much richer than that of the south coast where 72 taxa, including 19 unchecked records from literature, are recorded from the Port Moresby area

No full textInternational audienceEn France, particulièrement lors du " coup de tonnerre " d’avril 2002, comme dans la plupart des grandes démocraties occidentales, l’abstention bat des records, la volatilité électorale s’accroît, le vote pour des partis hors système augmente, les électeurs se décident de plus en plus tardivement et leurs choix paraissent de moins en moins prévisibles, sinon contradictoires. Qu’est-ce qui explique ces retournements spectaculaires de l’électorat et peuvent-ils demain se reproduire ? Est-on entré dans une période d’instabilité et de désordre électoral généralisés ?À partir d’une série d’enquêtes, et surtout du Panel électoral français de 2002, la plus large enquête réalisée en France à ce jour, une équipe de chercheurs reconstitue les cheminements et les chasséscroisés qui ont marqué en 2002 quatre tours d’élections pas tout à fait comme les autres, et retrace les grandes tendances du comportement électoral des Français.Les clivages anciens n’ont pas disparu mais se sont profondément transformés. D’autres apparaissent, entre hommes et femmes et autour de l’appartenance générationnelle. De nouveaux enjeux s’imposent : multiculturalisme, Europe, mondialisation, défense de l’environnement.
