Scymnus (Parapullus) alishanensis Pang and Yu (Figs. 12, 28– 32) Scymnus (Parapullus) alishanensis Pang et Yu, 1993: 230; Yu et al., 2000: 168; Pang et al., 2004: 82; Kovář, 2007: 584; Ren et al., 2009: 68. Diagnosis. This species is similar to S. (P.) tsugae in general appearance and male genitalia, but can be distinguished from it by the dilated of the pre-apex of penis. The shape of the parameres and penis guide is diagnostic. Description. TL: 2.40 mm, TW: 1.65 mm, TH: 1.10 mm, TL/TW: 1.45, PL/PW: 0.48, EL/EW: 1.12. Body oval, moderately convex, dorsum surface with fine, pale yellowish pubescence (Fig. 12). Head and antennae yellowish brown. Pronotum, scutellum and elytra reddish brown. Underside yellowish brown except metaventrite reddish brown. Head small, 0.65 × of pronotal width (HW/PW= 0.75 / 1.15). Punctures on head finer than eye facets, separated by 1–2 diameters, with white pubescence. Eyes small, the widest interocular distance 0.47 × of head width. Pronotum 0.70 × of elytral width (PW/EW= 1.15 / 1.65), pronotal punctures larger than those on head, 1–1.5 diameters apart. Surface of elytra with densely punctures, separated by 1–2.5 diameters. Prosternal carinae extending to anterior margin, slightly convergent anteriorly. Prosternal process trapezoid, length 5.0 times of width at the base. Abdominal postcoxal lines incomplete, slightly recurved toward the base of ventrite (Fig. 28). Area surrounded by the line evenly and sparsely punctured, relatively narrowly smooth along the line. Male genitalia: Penis stout, with a developed penis capsule (Fig. 29), apex of penis forming a large hook (Fig. 30). Tegmen stout, penis guide slightly constricted near middle and converging gradually to a pointed tip in ventral view (Fig. 32). Parameres relatively broad, oblong, distinctly shorter than penis guide, apex with two groups long and uniform setae (Fig. 31). Female not examined. Type.     Sticholotis petila Yu & Pang (Figures 41–43, 169–173, 297) Sticholotis petila Yu & Pang in Yu et al., 1993: 467. Diagnosis. This species is very similar to S. ruficeps in dorsal color pattern, but can be distinguished by its elytra with arcuate row of large punctures at mid length near suture (Fig. 41) and distinctly different shape of the penis capsule (Fig. 170). Description. TL: 2.32–2.44 mm, TW: 1.98–2.11 mm, TH: 1.05–1.19 mm, TL/TW: 1.16–1.18; PL/PW: 0.43– 0.44; EL/EW: 0.94–0.97; HW/TW: 0.38; PW/TW: 0.63. Head reddish brown, mouthparts yellow. Pronotum reddish brown and scutellum black. Elytra dark brown, with narrow yellowish brown band along lateral margins, each elytron with two large yellowish spots, anterior very large, irregular, at middle of basal margin (touching margin), posterior small, 1/2 size of anterior spot, at apical third (Figs 41–43). Underside reddish brown, middle of meso- and metaventrite black. Legs reddish brown. Body almost circular in outline, hemispherical, shiny and glabrous. Head frontal punctures medium and densely distributed, 0.5–1.5 diameters apart, with scattered short setae, interocular distance of eyes 0.58x head width (Fig. 43). Pronotal punctures fine and conspicuous, 1.0–2.0 diameters apart, slightly smaller than those on head. Elytral punctures medium, similar to those on pronotum, 1.0–1.5 diameters apart; each elytron with arcuate row of large punctures near suture at mid length. Elytral margins wide, visible from above. Prosternal punctures inconspicuous, with long sparse setae. Mesoventral surface shagreened, punctures coarse, with scattered short setae. Metaventrite broad and slightly shagreened, flat medially, covered by coarse and dense punctures distributed at center. Elytral epipleuron broad, complete to apex, feebly foveate to accommodate femoral tips of hind legs. Wings well-developed. Male genitalia: Penis short and slender, strongly curved at base, capsule broadening basally and with a small inner process (Figs 170–171); tegmen with penis guide slightly shorter than paramere, in lateral view thin and straight; parameres very thin (Fig. 172). Female genitalia: Ovipositor elongate and narrowly triangular, styli inconspicuous (Fig. 173). Specimens examined.     Metriogryllacris (Metriogryllacris) bimacula Yu, Liu & Bian, 2022 AṀaeḋỡ Figures 2, 9E–F, 11A–C Female (new description). Wings reaching the middle area of sixth abdominal tergite. Tegmina (Fig. 9E–F): In left tegmen, radius forks into two branches between middle and apical third of tegmen, R forked in subapical area; MA fused with R in basal third of tegmen, then raises from R. While right tegmen, R undivided; MA raises from R in basal fourth of tegmen, then together with RS and raises from the latter in apical area. Cubitus anterior free from base, which divides into CuA1 and CuA 2 in subapical area (Fig. 9E) or behind middle of tegmen (Fig. 9F). Both tegmina: Cubitus posterior undivided, free throughout; with 3 anal veins. Fore coxae with 1 small coxae. Fore and middle tibiae with 4 pairs of spines and 1 pair of apical spines; middle tibiae dorsally with 1 internal spine. Hind femora with 8–11 internal and 4–6 external spines on ventral surface; tibiae with 6 pairs of spines on dorsal surface, subapical area with 1 pair of ventral spines, apices with 1 pair of dorsal spines and 2 pairs of ventral spines. Second and third abdominal tergites each with two rows of stridulatory pegs (Fig. 2D). Seventh abdominal sternite longer than wide, posterior margin narrowly rounded; ventral surface with one sclerotized transverse fold (Fig. 2F). Subgenital plate transverse, posterior margin widely rounded, ventral surface semi-membranous along the midline, which as wide as the transverse fold of seventh abdominal sternite and the both sides slightly convex (Fig. 2F). Ovipositor short, apart from subbasal gradually and obliquely curved upward, apical area slightly curved dorsad, apices obtuse; basal area of ventral valvulae with 1 pair of lobate processes, its apices widely arched (Fig. 2E).     <i>Scymnus</i> (<i>Pullus</i>) <i>ancontophyllus</i> Ren and Pang 1993 (Hubei). <p> <b>Distribution.</b> China (Hubei, Sichuan, Yunnan, Shaanxi).</p> <p> <b>Specimens Examined.</b> (7 total), Sichuan: Baoxing: (1), Nigabou (3), Shaanxi: Zhenba (2); Yunnan: Lijiang: (1).</p> <p> <b>Remarks.</b> This species seems varied in coloration. Ren and Pang (1993) described the coloration of this species as head yellowish brown, pronotum brown and elytra black with apex yellow. Only one of the specimens from Shaanxi matches this description; all other specimens differ as follows: pronotum dark brown with the anterior and lateral margins lighter, elytron dark reddish brown with apical 1/8 brown and a large reddish brown disc, suture darker in color or the disc enlarged and confluent with other elytron.     Antimicrobial effects of Allyl isothiocyanate and modified atmosphere on Pseduomonas aeruginosa in fresh catfish fillet under abuse temperatures

    Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a common spoilage microorganism on fresh catfish products, can grow rapidly at temperatures above 4°C during storage and transportation. To protect against temperature abuse and extend the shelf life of catfish, an antimicrobial packaging system examined in this study. Allyl isothiocyanate (AIT), an extract of horseradish oil, is a well-known antimicrobial agent, which has been proved to have an excellent antimicrobial capability on various microorganisms. The packaging system consists of combing AIT with modified atmosphere (MA), a common antimicrobial method, to inhibit the growth of P. aeruginosa. The objectives of this research were: 1) to investigate the antimicrobial effects of AIT in vapor phase and MA on P. aeruginosa in fresh catfish fillet; 2) to develop models to predict the lag phase and shelf life of fresh catfish products as a function of AIT and MA. Three concentrations (0, 18 and 36 μg/L) of AIT in vapor phase were used to inhibit the growth of P. aeruginosa cocktail (3-strains) at 8, 15 and 20°C. In addition, the antimicrobial capability of MA (49% CO2, 0.5% O2 and 50.5% N2) and MA combined with AIT were also investigated. Our results showed that temperature has the most significant impact on the growth rate of P. aeruginosa. Lowing temperature could decrease the maximum growth rate of P. aeruginosa and extend its lag phase and shelf life. Increasing gaseous AIT concentration could elongate lag phase and reduce growth rate of P. aeruginosa effectively. In addition, AIT alone reduced P. aeruginosa counts within the initial several hours. The application of MA had a similar antimicrobial effect as AIT under low storage temperature. Moreover, to attain a longer shelf life of fresh catfish fillet, the combination of AIT and MA was included in this study. The synergistic effect of AIT and MA could extend the shelf life of fresh catfish from 4 days (control) to 23 days at 8°C. Models developed from this study may be applied to estimate the lag phase of P. aeruginosa and shelf life of catfish under abuse temperature conditions. The results could assist food industry to predict the shelf life of catfish products, which may be further optimized with appropriate AIT concentration in a MA packaging.M.S.Includes bibliographical referencesIncludes vitaby Yu-Hsin Pan
