An accurate assessment of the behaviour of sandwich panels using an improved higher order zigzag plate model
In this study, an improved higher order zigzag plate theory for bending of sandwich panels is presented. It ensures transverse shear stress continuity at all the layer interfaces and transverse shear stress free conditions at the top and bottom surfaces including transverse flexibility of the core. The through thickness variation of in-plane displacements is cubic for both the face sheet and the core while the out-of-plane displacement is assumed to vary quadratically within the core but it remains constant over the face sheets. The core is modeled as a three dimensional elastic continuum. An efficient C 0 finite element is developed for the implementation of the plate theory. The accuracy and applicability of the present formulation are established by comparing the present results with the three dimensional elasticity solutions. © 2009 Taylor & Francis Group, London.A.H. Stochastic perturbation-based finite element for deflection statistics of soft core sandwich plate with random material properties
The effect of random variations in material properties of laminated sandwich plates on the transverse deflections is investigated. An improved higher-order plate model is proposed earlier by the authors, which satisfies the transverse shear stress continuity conditions at the layer interfaces including the zero transverse shear stress conditions at the plate top and bottom surfaces. The theory assumes the variation of in-plane displacements to be cubic with discontinuities in the transverse shear strains at the layer interfaces, while the transverse displacements varies quadratically across the core thickness, thereby including transverse normal deformation of the soft core. The core is considered to behave as a 3-D elastic medium. To obtain the second-order statistics of deflections of sandwich plate, a stochastic C0 finite element (FE) based on the first-order perturbation technique is developed, where the lamina properties are considered as basic random variables while the other system properties are assumed to be deterministic. The performance of the improved stochastic laminated sandwich model is demonstrated through comparison of mean and standard deviations (SDs) of deflections obtained through independent Monte Carlo simulations and by comparison with results available in literature. © 2009 Elsevier Ltd. Shkolnayar Biblioteka glya Kazakhskikh Shkd (School Library for Kazakh Schools)
Here is a well-worn book. Its well-creased cover paper is so thick that it feels like cloth. The front cover features a lovely illustration of Quartet under the title and the branch-bending bear over it. The pamphlet offers seven well-chosen Krylov fables: Spectacles; The Wood-Breaking Bear; The Elephant and the Pug; Quartet; The Sightseer in the Museum; The Wolf and the Cat; and The Fox (and his frozen tail and the wolf). This pamphlet has more than its share of stains, scribbles, and tears, and is thus a testimony to being well used for almost sixty years! There is a separate vocabulary for each fable at the end. It was fun for me to figure out which fables were being presented: The Sightseer in the Museum had no illustration and so was difficult. I had to match size of fable and quoted material within the fable. Enjoyable sleuthing! LIBERAL MEASURES AND STRONG POWER. TO THE 190TH BIRTHDAY OF B.N. CHICHERIN
Purpose: Identify the general and special in the views of Boris B. Chicherin, as the brightest representative of Russian liberalism at the turn of the XIX–XX centuries on the problem of Russia’s political system, the prospect of the development of civil and political freedoms.
Research methodology: when working with the texts analyzed was used the comparative method, system method.
The results of the study: The article examines the political and philosophical views of the greatest theoretician of Russian liberalism at the turn of the XIX–XX centuries B.N. Chicherin. The author, noting the breadth of scientific views of the Russian liberal, concentrated on his ideas about Russia’s preferred form of government and the need to reform Russia’s state and legal system. Particular attention is paid to the views of Boris N. Chicherin on the problem of the exercise of individual freedom of a person, his civil and political rights in the conditions of strong state power, building up the legal system of interaction between the state and civil society.
The scope of the results: the results can be applied in scientific politological and social-philosophical studies, and in the course of teaching of social and Humanities disciplines
Crystal Dynamics and Anharmonic Properties of Bi-Pb-Tl Alloys
Title: Crystal Dynamics and Anharmonic Properties of Bi-Pb-Tl Alloys, Author: Aditya P. Roy, Location: ThodeThe crystal dynamics and anharmonic properties have
been investigated in disordered alloys of Bi-Pb-Tl using slow
neutron spectrometry. Damping of phonons caused by phonon-phonon
interaction and the effect of the force constant
disorder on the lifetime of the phonons have been studied in
the alloys. Measurements of the coefficients of thermal
expansion are reported. An experimental method of determining
the lattice frequency spectra by coherent inelastic scattering
of neutrons from polycrystalline materials is described.ThesisDoctor of Philosophy (PhD
Migration and dwelling quality in Rotterdam
The intention of this paper is to establish a statistical correlation between migration and the quality and quantity of houses in Rotterdam and environs at a high level of aggregation. Verification or falsification of correlations involving more variables would require a spectrum of data for all municipalities in the Netherlands which is beyond the scope of this paper. This paper presents primary research data of residential migration and the quality of dwellings in and around Rotterdam. It makes a substantive (historical data) and procedural (research process) contribution to knowledge which is of use to under graduate and post graduate students, as well as to researchers in the town and regional planning field.StedebouwkundeArchitectur
From Highway to Streetway
The city Utrecht is currently growing towards the A12 Highway and the city Nieuwegein. It is facing complexity problems such as increase in density, population and traffic intensities. However, the Highway (A12) has become a physical barrier and separates the urban fabric of Utrecht. This has a negative impact on the city’s qualities due to noise pollutions (over 65 dB) and air pollutions (exhaust fumes of particulate matter and nitrogen dioxide). Objective of this paper is to propose a residential typology configured with the highway that can transform the unhealthy highway environment into a healthy environment. The highway should be seen as a part of the city instead of dissociates it. Technical solutions for noise and air pollution will be introduced on an urban and building scale that enhances the liveability of the dense city and introduces a neighbourhood where people can also live outside.Architectural Engineering and TechnologyArchitecture and The Built Environmen
Anima: Development of a product that supports healthy eating and wellbeing of Millennials suffering from Bulimia Nervosa
Anima is a new product service that aims to help people suffering from B.N during the maintenance stage. This means that once the patient is out from therapy, there are still some chances of having a relapse episode, that is why a solution to keep a balanced and healthy lifestyle is needed. It is an in-home product that the user should use on a daily basis, in order to stay balanced. This product will help the user be more emotionally aware and help her/him regulating and embracing her/his emotions during her/his daily life. Embracing their emotions and their feelings is the main purpose of this product/service.Integrated Product Desig
Arctic shipping: Commercial viability of the arctic sea routes
Climate change and dwindling energy resources are the driving factors behind the research being performed in the Arctic region. The climate change is being caused by an increase in the greenhouse gases and this has disturbed the natural balance. These greenhouse gases are causing the rapid retreat of the ice in the Arctic region. This spells both bad news and good news. The bad news is of course obvious that the retreating ice can cause drastic changes to the local habitats and also the world. The good news is that the retreating sea ice, has given hope of shipping in the Arctic region. It has also given the opportunity to explore the vast resources buried deep in the Arctic region.CoMEM - Coastal and Marine Engineering ManagementHydraulic EngineeringCivil Engineering and Geoscience
