    Graph transformation approaches for diverse routing in shared risk resource group (SRRG) failures

    Failure resilience is a desired feature of the Internet. Most traditional restoration architectures assume single failure assumption, which is not adequate in present day WDM optical networks. Multiple link failure models, in the form of shared risk link groups (SRLG’s) and shared risk node groups (SRNG’s) are becoming critical in survivable optical network design. We classify both of these form of failures under a common scenario of shared risk resource groups (SRRG) failures. We develop graph transformation techniques for tolerating multiple failures arising out of shared resource group (SRRG) failures. Diverse routing in such multi-failure scenario essentially necessitates finding out two paths between a source and a destination that are SRRG disjoint. The generalized diverse routing problem has been proved to be NP-Complete. The proposed transformation techniques however provides a polynomial time solution for certain restrictive failure sets. We study how restorability can be achieved for dependent or shared risk link failures and multiple node failures and prove the validity of our approach for different network scenarios. Our proposed technique is capable of improving the diverse route computation by around 20–30% as compared to approaches proposed in the literature.This is a manuscript of an article published as Datta, Pallab, and Arun K.     Tapping Economies of Scale and Scope in Consumer Cooperation - A Case Analysis of Possible Cooperation among selected Cooperatives

    Because of its narrow and negative perspective of safeguarding the interests of only poor consumers against unethical practices of the private traders, consumer cooperation in India seems to have failed, except probably in some isolated pockets. A number of social welfare functions like poverty alleviation and public distribution of essential items of consumption have been imposed on them at the cost of their basic economics. With the basic micro and macro-economic rationale for consumer cooperatives as a positive form of economic organization being lost sight of, they seem to be facing enormous problems both historically as well as currently in a era of economic liberalization. Their worries seem to have been compounded with the threat of impending competition from large private enterpriss - both domestic and foreign, which highlights the need for evolving strategies to rectivy their systemic weaknesses and tackling the competition head on. This case has attempted to document just such an initiative through a round table conference with several doyens of the consumer cooperative movement in India such as Warana Bazar and Amalsad Mandali as well as some fledging consumer cooperatives from West Bengal which are already in existence for some time or contemplating entry into this field. The roundtable conference organized in the spirit of Cooperation among Cooperatives attempted to evolve strategies to capture economies of scale and scope in order to take on the competition, as well as to facilitate dissemination of ideas and information across the country.

    Evaluating dual-failure restorability in mesh-restorable WDM optical networks

    Double link failure models, in which any two links in the network fail in an arbitrary order, are becoming critical in survivable optical network design. A significant finding is that designs offering complete dual-failure restorability require almost triple the amount of spare capacity. In this paper, networks are designed to achieve 100% restorability under single link failures, while maximizing coverage against any second link failure in the network. In the event of a single link failure, the restoration model attempts to dynamically find a second alternate link-disjoint end-to-end path to provide coverage against a sequential overlapping link failure. Sub-graph routing (M. T. Frederick et al., Feb. 2003) is extended to provide dual-failure restorability for a network provisioned to tolerate all single-link failures. This strategy is compared with shared-mesh protection. The results indicate that sub-graph routing can achieve overlapping second link failure restorability for 95-99% of connections. It is also observed that sub-graph routing can inherently provide complete dual-failure coverage for ~72-81% of the connections.This is a manuscript of a proceeding published as Frederick, Michael T., Pallab Datta, and Arun K.     Sub-graph routing : a novel fault-tolerant architecture for shared-risk link group failures in WDM optical networks

    Failure resilience is one the desired features of the Internet. Multiple link failure models, in the form of shared-risk link group (SRLG) failures, are becoming critical in survivable optical network design. Most of the traditional restoration schemes are based on the single-failure assumption which is unrealistic. In our research, we propose a novel survivability approach that can tolerate multiple failures arising out of SRLG situations. Each network has a set of sub-graphs that can be created by removing each of the links in the network and, in addition, removing all of the links of a SRLG. Connections in the newly proposed strategy are accepted if they can be routed in all the sub-graphs, and are protected against all single link and SRLG failures. We also study how restorability can be achieved for node failures and analyze the performance of our approaches for different network topologies. Our proposed restoration architecture requires the storage of network state information corresponding to each of the possible failure scenarios defined by the subgraphs.     Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan aspek sosiologi pengarang dengan struktur batin puisi Watashi ga Ichiban Kirei Datta Toki Karya Ibaragi Noriko. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif analisis, dengan pendekatan sosiologi pengarang oleh&nbsp; Wellek dan Warren (1994). Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan mendeskripsikan objek penelitian kemudian menganalisis hubungan aspek sosiologi pengarang dengan struktur batin puisi. Hasil penelitian ini adalah terdapat hubungan aspek sosiologi pengarang dengan struktur batin puisi, yaitu pada aspek status sosial pengarang dengan tema dan aspek latar belakang sosial budaya pengarang dengan amanat. Dari hasil penelitian tersebut, dapat diketahui bahwa puisi Watashi ga Ichiban Kirei Datta Toki ditulis oleh Ibaragi Noriko berdasarkan peristiwa yang terjadi dalam hidupnya. &nbsp; Kata Kunci : puisi, struktur batin, sosiologi pengarang &nbsp; Abstract This research aims to determine the relationship of the sociological aspects of the author with the inner structure of the poetry Watashi ga Ichiban Kirei Datta Toki by Ibaragi Noriko. This research uses descriptive analysis method, with the author\u27s sociology approach by Wellek and Warren (1994). This research was conducted by describing the object of research then analyzing the relationship of the sociological aspects of the author with the inner structure of the poetry. The result of this research is that there is a relationship between the sociological aspects of the author with the inner structure of poetry, namely on the aspect of the author\u27s social status with the theme and aspect of the author\u27s socio-cultural background with the mandate. Arora, author of the basic publication on the fauna of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Remark. The taxon tripunctata Reich, 1935 was described under the genus Lyclene. Here we transfer it to the genus Cyana and synonymize with C. detrita (see above). Thus, at present there are two Cyana taxa with the name tripunctata, so tripunctata Rothschild, 1936 becomes a junior secondary homonym of tripunctata Reich, 1935. Hence, we introduce the replacement name arorai nom. nov. for tripunctata Rothschild, 1936. Diagnosis. Forewing length is 12.5–15 mm in males and 17–18 mm in females. Cyana arorai is a polymorphic species, significantly variable in size. Cyana arorai is similar externally to C. carmina (Figs 13, 14), but differs by its arcuate antemedial line (that is oblique in C. carmina) and larger black discal spots. In females of C. arorai a third, posterior black spot may be developed (Figs 16, 17), what is unusual for the C. insularis group. The female genitalia of C. arorai are very similar to those of C. carmina (Figs 239, 240), but differ by the more heavily sclerotized cervix bursae having narrower longitudinal folds, and the lateral band-like signum being more weakly sclerotized subanteriorly with its anterior end strongly broadened. Distribution. Endemic of the Andaman Islands.     Survivability approaches for multiple failures in WDM optical networks

    In this dissertation, we study survivability paradigms for surviving multiple link failures. We study the network design and upgrade problem in WDM backbone networks and formulate it using a simulated annealing based technique. This framework provides a cost effective way of upgrading the network by identifying how much resources to budget at each stage of network evolution. This results in significant cost reductions for the network service provider.;We study protection reconfiguration using two different survivability paradigms, namely sub-graph routing and shared mesh protection. Initially sub-graphs are defined taking into account link, SRLG, or node failures, and could, in the event of an unrelated or subsequent multi-link failure, incorporate the reactive form of sub-graph fault tolerance. Reactive sub-graph fault tolerance employs a recursive approach for tolerating numerous sequential overlapping failures. It can tolerate simultaneous multiple link failures by simply serializing the handling of each individual fault.;Connection re-routing and network reconfiguration is one of the primary challenges in sub-graph routing methodology. We propose a constrained subgraph routing methodology, which restricts the connections to be routed using the same trunk and channel in the subgraphs, thus minimizing reconfiguration. The subgraph based routing methodology is further explored to tolerate multiple link failures, in the form of shared-risk link groups and node failures.;The generalized diverse routing problem, for finding two diverse routes between a source and destination has been shown to be NP-Complete. Recent studies have also proven the NP-completeness of the SRLG diverse routing. We propose a polynomial time graph transformation algorithm for solving the diverse routing problem for certain specific SRLG's, which includes link-sets incident on a common node. The proposed graph transformation methodology for diverse routing, is also studied for shared-risk node group (SRNG) failures. (Abstract shortened by UMI.)</p
