Ortus aquarum: il castello Piccolomini a Ortucchio nella conca del Fucino

    No full text
[EN] The contribution is part of the wider research concerning the defensive systems of the internal Abruzzo and specifically of the Marsican territory. The investigation takes into consideration a rare example of a fortress, originally accessible only by water, strategically located on an islet that lapped the shores of the ancient Lake Fucino. It is the castle built in the second half of the fifteenth century by Antonio Piccolomini which incorporates a previous medieval tower located in the historic center of Ortucchio (AQ). The eponymous tectonic basin lake, fed by precipitation and streams, did not have a natural emissary, reason why the water level was variable and dependent on the intensity and frequency of seasonal atmospheric events. Consequently, the historic center of Ortucchio underwent a change of physical-perceptive identity passing from the conformation of peninsula to that of island and the fortress was one of the distinctive places in the changing anthropic scenario of Lake Fucino before its drying up (1875).Palestini, C.; Lolli, S. Constructing regionalism in South America : the cases of sectoral cooperation on transport infrastructure and energy

First online: 29 January 2018This article contributes to the study of South American regionalism focusing on the emergence of sectoral cooperation starting in 2000. To do so, the article analyses two policy areas transport infrastructure and energy integration-addressing two questions: Why has regional cooperation emerged despite the absence of economic interdependence and market driven demand for economic integration? And why are policy outcomes evident in some areas (i.e. transport infrastructure) while limited in others (i.e. energy)? It is argued that the emergence of regional cooperation as well as the variation in policy outcomes between areas can be explained largely by the articulation of a regional leadership and its effect on the convergence of state preferences. The article shows how the Brazilian leadership, incentivised by the effects of the US-led Free Trade Area of the Americas negotiations and the financial crises that hit the region in the late 1990s, made state preferences converge towards a regionalist project encompassing all South American countries by making visible the mutual benefits of cooperation on transport infrastructure and energy. In the case of energy, however, the emergence of a second regional leadership project - pursued by Chavez's Venezuela- and deep preference divergence led sectoral cooperation into a gridlock

On a Nonrenewable Resource Extraction Game Played by Asymmetric Firms

    No full text
A differential game of extraction of a nonrenewable resource is taken into account, where two firms compete over time and their two terminal times of extraction are two different random variables. The winning firm will be the only one remaining in the game after the first one retires. We explicitly compute the Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equations of the model and solve them in an asymmetric game with logarithmic payoff structure and linear state dynamics. © 2013 Springer Science+Business Media New York

STRATEGIE DI DIGITALIZZAZIONE 3D PER LA DOCUMENTAZIONE DI REPERTI ARCHEOLOGICI: IL CASO DELLE CERAMICHE DI SAN DOMENICO

This paper presents an experimental study carried out as part of the research activities of the CeDiPa (Center for Cultural Heritage Digitization), aimed at developing advanced digital methodologies for the documentation and enhancement of cultural heritage preserved in emergency contexts, such as post-earthquake storage facilities. The selected case study focuses on the digitization of the ceramic collection of San Domenico, currently housed at PoMAq, the University Museum of L’Aquila. The work involved the use of handheld structured-light 3D scanners, used to acquire archaeological artefacts of small and medium size. The study enabled a comparative evaluation of the two scanning devices in terms of technical performance and the quality of the resulting 3D models. The proposed workflow proved to be both effective and replicable, although certain operational challenges emerged when handling complex or fragmented geometries. The results confirm the significance of 3D digitization as an active tool for heritage documentation, access, and knowledge dissemination, while also ighlighting the need for flexible, integrated approaches tailored to specific contexts and artefact characteristics

Measurements of Surface-roughness - Use of A Ccd Camera To Correlate Doubly Scattered Speckle Patterns

    No full text
We describe an instrument, built around a commercial CCD camera and some fast image-processing boards, that evaluates roughness height by measuring the average size of doubly scattered speckle patterns. The device is a variant of a recent proposal that was based on the use of a spatial modulator to perform the Fourier transform of a speckle image. In the present setup, the Fourier transform is replaced by the direct evaluation of a second-order correlation function. Strictly speaking, the device proposed in this paper is not a real-time device but its response time (approximately 10 s) is sufficiently short to be of practical value for many applications. Updated CCD cameras that will significantly improve the performance of our prototype are already on the market

LACK OF THE GANGLIOSIDE MOLECULAR-SPECIES CONTAINING THE C20-LONG-CHAIN BASES IN HUMAN, RAT, MOUSE, RABBIT, CAT, DOG, AND CHICKEN BRAINS DURING PRENATAL LIFE

The long-chain base composition of the total gangliosides from fetal brain of human, rat, mouse, rabbit, cat, dog, and chicken has been investigated during prenatal life. All the analyzed ganglioside mixtures contained the C18:1- and C18:0-long-chain bases, the latter covering 2-5% of the total long-chain base content. The C20-long-chain bases, which are components of the total ganglioside mixture from adult animals, were absent
