Architectural perspectives in the cathedral of Palermo : image-based modeling for cultural heritage understanding and enhancement
Palermo off ers a repertoire of both artistic
and architectural solid perspective of great beauty and
in large quantity. This paper addresses the problem of
the 3D survey of these works and their related study
through the use of image-based modelling (IBM) techniques.
We propose, as case studies, the use of IBM
techniques inside the Cathedral of Palermo. Indeed, the
church houses a huge and rich sculptural repertoire, dating
back to 16th century, which constitutes a valid field
of IBM techniques application.
The aim of this study is to demonstrate the e ffectiveness
and potentiality of these techniques for geometric
analysis of sculptured works. Indeed, usually the survey
of these artworks is very diffi cult due the geometric complexity,
typical of sculptured elements. In this study,
we analysed cylindrical and planar geometries as well as
carrying out an application of perspective return.peer-reviewe
Under her eye: immaginari e pratiche spaziali transfemministe a Palermo
This article analyses the performance organised by Non Una Di Meno-Palermo for the 2020 International Day for the elimination of Violence against Women and gender-based. During the demonstration, the urban space has been re-signified by a ‘Handmaid’, with regard to the novel and the TV-series The handmaid’s tale (Atwood, 1985). Used many times by the transfemminist movements to represent women’s body control and discipline, the Handmaid representation takes on further meanings in the Covid-19 pandemic framework. This paper examines the performance by analysing on the one hand its spatial aspects, in connection with other forms of movements’ spatialisation; on the other hand, the mobilised (trans)feminist imaginaries, between pop seduction and resignifications. The aim is to understand which are the meanings and the alliances the movement is building through this kind of spatial imaginaries and practices, by identifying the specificities in the Palermo case
L’ACQUA FA PAURA: GESTIONE DEL TERRITORIO E SALUTE PUBBLICA NEL BORGO DI SANTA LUCIA DI PALERMO (1810-1811)
Even before they were associated with the protozoan Plasmodium, malarial diseases
were linked, both in the popular imagination and in medical theories, to a real 'ecological complex'
characterised by elements present in the environment, animals, plants and man and his
ways of living, dwelling, eating and working. In the context of a Palermo suburb at the end of
the nineteenth century, repeatedly struck by 'intermittent fevers', the clear and widespread perception
of these complex relationships between natural and social elements emerges

Imaginaries, resources and inequalities in urban fragments" (NEXT-CITIES).
Questi sono: il Contratto di fiume e di costa Oreto, il Parco a mare dello Sperone, il porto della Bandita, il lungomare della BanditaThe contribution reports some initial observations on the case study of the UL of Palermo of the project "Next cities for whom? Imaginaries, resources and inequalities in urban fragments" (NEXT-CITIES). The case study of the UL of Palermo focuses on the Second District of Palermo, more specifically on the coastal "fragment" to the south of the city. The first level unit (UPL)3 involved is only one:
Settecannoli which runs along the entire coast from the Oreto river to the border
of the city. In fact, four PNRR projects insist on this coastline
which are however conceived as a single one. These are: the Oreto River and Coast Contract, the Sperone Sea Park, the Bandita port, the Bandita seafron
Judicial Adjudication of Language Rights in Central, Eastern, and South-Eastern Europe. Principles and Criteria. EDAP 2/2011
Central, Eastern, and South-Eastern Europe are among the regions where minority, including linguistic rights, are more developed, at least on paper. Not always, however, have these rights been fully and effectively implemented so far. Several obstacles hamper effective implementation. Besides general problems, such as high costs or administrative and organizational requirements, in many countries of Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe, linguistic rights have been granted as a concession to the international community rather than out of sincere commitment. Minority rights are thus often highly politicized. In such a context, the role of the judiciary in determining principles and criteria for the practical development of linguistic rights is of extreme importance. The paper casts some light on the adjudication of linguistic rights of national minorities in Central, Eastern, and South-Eastern Europe, by examining the relevant case law and, above all, by trying to infer the underlying principles developed by the courts. It concludes that courts are overall quite deferential to the general political climate in their respective country. At the same time, however, some judicial decisions clearly indicate that courts are gradually emancipating from the mainstream political options and are increasingly able to impose non-majoritarian decisions, thus proving evidence of a slow but evolving establishment of the rule of law
