Morse index and symmetry for elliptic problems with nonlinear mixed boundary conditions
We consider an elliptic problem of the type where Ω is a bounded Lipschitz domain in R N with a cylindrical symmetry, ν stands for the outer normal and. Under a Morse index condition, we prove cylindrical symmetry results for solutions of the above problem. As an intermediate step, we relate the Morse index of a solution of the nonlinear problem to the eigenvalues of the following linear eigenvalue problem For this one, we construct sequences of eigenvalues and provide variational characterization of them, following the usual approach for the Dirichlet case, but working in the product Hilbert space L 2 (Ω) × L 2 (Γ2)
Understanding the Experiences of Women Seeking Preconception Health Information
Understanding women’s information seeking behaviours before conception is important for the development of interventions to enhance preconception health. This project explored barriers, facilitators, and motivators towards engagement with preconception advice in women undergoing assisted reproductive technology, across BMI classifications. Twenty interviews were conducted with women attending the fertility clinic, Repromed, in South Australia. Barriers to behaviour change included challenges finding reputable information, lack of social and health provider support, and desire for secrecy. Women reported a preference for receiving health information from the internet, social media, complementary and allied health professionals. Women living with overweight reported similar behaviours and interactions.Kimberly R. Lush, Amy T. Hutchison, Leanne Pacella-Ince, Briony Hill, Jacqueline A. Boyle, and Jessica A. Griege
Reactive oxygen species in the mammalian pre-implantation embryo
Reactive oxygen species (ROS) occur naturally in pre-implantation embryos as a by-product of ATP generation through oxidative phosphorylation and enzymes such as NADPH oxidase and xanthine oxidase. Biological concentrations of ROS are required for crucial embryonic events such as pronuclear formation, first cleavage and cell proliferation. However, high concentrations of ROS are detrimental to embryo development, resulting in embryo arrest, increased DNA damage and modification of gene expression leading to aberrant fetal growth and health. In vivo embryos are protected against oxidative stress by oxygen scavengers present in follicular and oviductal fluids, while in vitro, embryos rely on their own antioxidant defence mechanisms to protect against oxidative damage, including superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione and glutamylcysteine synthestase. Pre-implantation embryonic ROS originate from eggs, sperm and embryos themselves or from the external environment (i.e. in vitro culture system, obesity and ageing). This review examines the biological and pathological roles of ROS in the pre-implantation embryo, maternal and paternal origins of embryonic ROS, and from a clinical perspective, we comment on the growing interest in combating increased oxidative damage in the pre-implantation embryo through the addition of antioxidants.Joshua C Deluao, Yasmyn Winstanley, Rebecca L Robker, Leanne Pacella-Ince, Macarena B Gonzalez, and Nicole O McPherso
Efficacy and safety of the fìxed combination Timolol 0.5%/Travoprost 0.004% compared the concomitant administration to the single components
Aim. Aim of the study was to evaluate the safety
and efficacy of the once daily fixed combination
timolol 0.5%/ travoprost 0.004% versus twice
daily timolol 0.5% associated with once daily
travoprost 0.004% in patients with primary
open angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension.
Metbods. A prospective study was carried out
in patients with primary open angle glaucoma
(IOP one eyez 18 nunHg and S30 nunHg
and IOP both eyes S30 nunHg).The IOP was
measured continuously at 15 days, l month, 2
months, 3 months, 4 months, 5 months and 6
months after initiation of treatment with timolol
0.5%twice a day, tirnolol 0.5%twice a day and
travoprost 0.004% once daily, and timolol 0.5%/
travoprost 0.004%fixed combination once daily.
Results. Eighty eyes of 40 patients, mean age
70.45±10.15 years were treated with only timo-
101 0.5%for l month obtaining a mean reduction
in IOP of 9.88%.Switching to timolol 0.5%/
travoprost 0.004% resulted in adequate IOP
control (11.3%). After three months of treatment
with fixed combination (timolol 0.5%/ travoprost
0.004%) the IOP reduced was statistica1lysignificant.
Conclusion. Timolol O.5%/travoprost 0.004%
fixed combination was well-tolerated and produced
significant additional IOP reduction
when switched from other anti-glaucoma drugs
in patients with primary open angle glaucoma
or ocular hypertension. Both topical and systemic
side-effects were scarce and tolerability
was good

Sectional symmetry of solutions of elliptic systems in cylindrical domains
In this paper we prove a kind of rotational symmetry for solutions of semilinear elliptic systems in some bounded cylindrical domains.
The symmetry theorems obtained hold for low-Morse index solutions whenever the nonlinearities satisfy some convexity assumptions. These results extend and improve those obtained in
