Effect of the manger space on welfare and meat quality of beef cattle
Forty-eight Simmental young bulls (initial body weight = 321.2 +/- 34.1 kg) were assigned to eight balanced groups reared in separate pens with a space allowance of 3 m(2) per head. Two different manger spaces (60 vs. 80 cm per head) were tested in factorial arrangement with the type of floor of the pen (slatted vs. straw bedded). All the animals received the same diet provided ad libitum. No significant interaction was found between the two main factors considered in the study. Manger space did not affect bulls' daily gain, feed intake and feed efficiency. Health status of the animals was satisfactory and the neutrophil/ lympocite ratio, blood indicator of chronic stress, was not modified by the different manger space. Behavioural observations showed no differences due to manger space. Regardless of the manger space, the ad libitum feeding promoted a high turnover of the bulls in the feeding area limiting the number of animals eating at same time. Bulls were slaughtered at 614.6 +/- 14.7 kg and carcass traits and meat quality were not affected by manger space. Regardless of the type of floor, a space at the manger of 60 cm per head should be sufficient for beef cattle fed ad libitum under intensive rearing system

Effect of type of floor and space at the manger on growth performance and feeding behaviour of beef cattle
There is no regulation in force concerning the welfare of beef cattle in Europe likely because of the large differences existing among the fattening systems adopted by different countries. The fattening system mainly adopted in Italy must be consider intensive due to the high cattle stocking rate and the indoor housing with lack of pasture. In these rearing conditions the main factors affecting beef cattle welfare are the space allowance, the number of animals/pen, the type of floor, and the space at the manger (EU-SCAHAW, 2001)..
PNRRorienta: A Web Application for Managing Schools, Courses, and Students Involved in the PNRR Orientation Initiative
The National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) allocates funds to universities for participating in an initiative for delivering orientation courses to students in the last three years of secondary education. The University of Padua is among the institutions joining this initiative. The main objective of these courses is to help students understand the significance of higher education and its value to society. These courses also provide students with an opportunity to explore different educational offerings. Additionally, students can gain practical experience in active and laboratory-based disciplinary teaching, consolidate their knowledge, and develop reflective and transversal skills. Finally, students can also get an overview of various employment sectors and potential job prospects. However, this initiative requires a big effort to plan all the lectures and manage the huge amount of students, institutes, courses, and professors involved. Therefore, in this work we present a Web application, called PNRRorienta, we have designed and developed to manage and simplify all the tasks related to this initiative. The University of Padua has started to use this application in September 2023 and, as of February 2024, it handles more than 70 different secondary education institutes in the Veneto Region, almost 200 courses offered to students, more than 1,300 lectures, more than 400 professors, and almost 10,000 students actively enrolled
