    Beyond the surface chapel

The Chapel is designed not only as a place of contemplation, but as a path of spiritual growth that comes from contemplation. Its structure, divided on two levels, is thought as a succession of tactile and visual sensations that bring the user to experience it, through the skin and the eyes. The entrance, open to nature, is subtracted from it and becomes its border and at the same time mirror, as it represents the archetype of the cave, the first man refuge, from which to observe the surrounding nature. Unlike it, made of rough black rock, the golden core pushes the visitor not to stay too long, but to rise towards the upper floor light filtered by small openings scattered on the golden wall of the stairs. Arriving on the upper floor, the building changes its language and opens itself to the nature and history of the Santo Alberto Fort, through a large glazed area. From here, we proceed through two corridors that punctuate the path by means of gashes. These ones frame on one side the remains of the Roman village, on the other the quarries. The two passages are reunited in a reflective space devoted to rest that opens up to full height towards the sea, like the lens of a camera. Once the reflective journey is over, the golden core is descended again, but this time the visitor discovers a new space that has not been revealed before. An ancestral space marked only by the glare of light on the bare black rock coming from the slits of the ceiling. Here the visitor, immersed in the contemplation of himself, is surrounded by a bundle of lights. It is here that he discovers the true meaning of contemplation by experiencing nature under new eyes and new guise

Paesaggio e spazio pubblico: una proposta per il nuovo Contratto di Fiume Medio- Basso Tevere

This paper illustrates our River Contract proposal for the Tiber River in the only stretch currently uncovered, that runs through the Province of Rome. In order to make this proposal effective, territorial analyses were carried out, based on the Landscape Values, or rather the different landscape typologies, which the Tiber River creates in its surroundings. A lot of naturalistic and historical elements are present in our sample area: they could be valorized by this new planning tool, not only naturalistic engineering oriented, but also useful for generating a new urban design. The Tiber River and its tributaries define a category of Waterscapes; the numerous protected areas can be defined as Naturalscapes; the rural features are classified as Ruralscapes; the whole archaeological areas, castles, museums and ancient mills constitute the Culturalscapes category; finally, the Consular Roads and local railways contistute Infrastructuralscapes. Through these landscapes urbanism categories, we proposed the Regeneration Strategy for the Tiber River to connect all these Values for the new "urban" dimensio

The territorial framework of the river courses: a new methodology in evolving perspectives

This paper focuses on the importance of watercourses, on the presence of historical, naturalistic and environmental factors and on the necessary requirements to be strongly considered in planning tools that involve spatial development processes. The theoretical approach to this topic is then experimented on the case of the Tiber River in a particularly critical area of its course, which falls within the province of Rome. In order to overcome the complex difficulties that the river encounters along its path, the creation of a River Contract is conceived, as an innovative tool for the development of the river territory as a public space. The main issue of this article is to expose a methodology developed for the definition of landscape quality aims: it is mainly aimed at strengthening the idea that the River Contract could be an implementation stage of the Landscape Plan. The River Contract can play an important role in development strategies in Inner Areas and at the same time be an effective tool for recovering identity values. Effort was concentrated on the production of a territorial survey matrix that could be exploited by Local Authorities with the spirit of including the needs of the inhabitants

    Banana Kindergarten

Our project is based on three keywords: playing, educating, and discovering. Banana Kindergarten reflects the idea of a continuous exchange experience, which marks the rhythm of the spaces, from closed ones to open ones. The first contain the main activities of the centre management (office, kitchen, hall), the second carry out the educational activities: living inside (existing classroom, hall) and outside (new patios, garden, playground). The structure ensures the greatest possible flexibility, adapting closed spaces to the different daily activities, in order to accommodate as many children as possible. For this reason, we designed a system of patios that provided a covered connection between the buildings and the exterior playground, through a framework of movable blithe panels. A social strategy completes the design process, suggesting an activities’ programme for the children’s daily care. Furthermore, the centre will be a self-sustaining system that transforms a simple hedge in an opportunity to develop a sensitive and educational approach with the nature (vegetables garden), embodied in the Bolivian larger consumed fruit: the banana. Bunch of bananas represent the idea of kindergarten’s group, integrated in the community local soul, one and five thousand
