Experimental High-Frequency Parameter Identification of AC Electrical Motors
In order to predict conducted electromagnetic interference in inverter-motor drive systems, high-frequency (HF) motor models are requested and the involved parameters have to be available. In previous studies, the authors have presented an accurate HF model for induction motors and they have defined the procedures to identify the model parameters. In this paper, these results are extended to several types and sizes of industrial ac motors such as induction, synchronous reluctance (without interior permanent magnets), and brushless motors. The model parameter-identification procedure has been improved, and it is based on a least-squares data fitting applied to the measured magnitude and phase-frequency-response curves of the phase-to-ground and the phase-to-neutral impedances. The aim of this paper is to provide quick indications to select the suitable values of the HF model parameters, with reference to the size and type of the ac motor, to evaluate the HF voltage and current components in inverted-fed ac motor system
Low-Cost Laser-Based Localization System for Agricultural Machines
This paper describes the design and test of a low-cost localization system for agricultural applications, which determines a tractor position in fields up to 0.5 km with an uncertainty of about 1 m. The proposed system employs a standard unmodified laser head, which is commonly used for field leveling, plus a reference ground-fixed laser receiver and requires neither laser modulation nor expensive time-of-flight measurements of light beam
Exposure-Tolerant Imaging Solution forCultural Heritage Monitoring
This paper describes a simple and cheap solution specifically designed for monitoring the degradation of thin coatings employed for metal protection. The proposed solution employs a commercial photocamera and a frequency-domain-based approach that is capable of highlighting the surface uniformity changes due to initial corrosion. Even though the proposed solution is specifically designed to monitor the long-time performance of protective coatings employed for the restoration of silver artifacts, it can be successfully used also for assessing the conservation state of other ancient metallic works of art. The proposed solution is made tolerant to exposure changes by using a procedure for sensor nonlinearity identification and correction, does not require a precise lighting control, and employs only free open-source software, so that its overall cost is very low and can be used also by not specifically trained operator

Handheld-Impedance-Measurement System with seven-decade capability and potentiostatic function
This paper describes design and test of a new impedance-measurement system for nonlinear devices that exhibits a seven-decade range and works down to a frequency of 0.01 Hz. The system is specifically designed for electrochemical measurements, but the proposed architecture can be employed in many other fields where flexible signal generation and analysis are required. The system employs an unconventional signal generator based on two pulsewidth modulation (PWM) oscillators and an autocalibration system that allows uncertainties of less than 3% to be obtained over a range of 1 kΩ to 100 GΩ. A synchronous demodulation processing allows the noise superimposed to the low-amplitude input signals to be made negligibl
PHILOFLUID sito di gruppo di ricerca, webhosting del Politecnico di Torino
PHILOFLUID Research Group website at the Politecnico di Torino describes the group research activity in a wide range of topics related to: turbulent flows, stratified fluid fields, hydrodynamic stability and collective behaviour of travelling waves in sheared flows, numerical and laboratory simulation of hypersonic jets, astropysics in the laboratory: mid-term stellar jets simulation, analysis of data on solar wind and related magnetic field. A few related applications are: subgrid scale (LES, SGS) modelling, turbulent mixing, dynamics of cloud-clear air interfaces, energy transport by travelling waves in microchannels, wall and wake flows, under-expanded jets, collimation of astrophysical jets as seen in an Earth laboratory under partial physical similitude. The research activities are performed in collaboration with several national and international partners. We are located at the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (DIMEAS) of the Politecnico of Torin
Design and refubrishment of the old power station of the Politecnico di Torino to host an Erasmus student house
Outgoin
