A summary of contemporary cosmographical knowledge illustrated with mid-sixteenth century star woodcuts include one of the Corona Australe or Southern Cross identified by Andrea Corsali in 1515. The two treatises usually issued together are among the earliest scientific expositions and popularisations in vernacular Italian. The Sfera del mondo is a survey of contemporary cosmographical knowledge and methodology while the De le stelle fisse is the first published star atlas, containing charts for all but one of Ptolemy's 48 constellations in addition to lists of principal stars plotted.
