    A class of Petrov-Galerkin finite element methods for the numerical solution of the stationary convection-diffusion equation.

    A class of Petrov-Galerkin finite element methods is proposed for the numerical solution of the n dimensional stationary convection-diffusion equation. After an initial review of the literature we describe this class of methods and present both asymptotic and nonasymptotic error analyses. Links are made with the classical Galerkin finite element method and the cell vertex finite volume method. We then present numerical results obtained for a selection of these methods applied to some standard test problems. We also describe extensions of these methods which enable us to solve accurately for derivative values of the solution

    On 29 December 1999 the outstanding Russian poultry geneticist Professor Sergey G. Petrov died at the age of 96. He was acknowledged as a famous scholar in the field of poultry genetics as well as bee breeding. Born on 18 December 1903, Sergey Petrov started his scientific career in the 1920s under the supervision of prominent Russian biologists and geneticists including Professors N.K. Koltsov and A.S. Serebrovsky. At that time he was a researcher in the Poultry Breeding Department headed by Serebrovsky at the Central Genetic Station (CGS), Anikovo/Nazaryevo/Slobodka led by Koltsov. The studies on chicken genetics and major mutations carried out by Serebrovsky, Petrov and other CGS researchers were the first to be done in Russia and contributed to the ‘gold fund’ of the Russian genetic science. From 1928 to 1929 Petrov took part in a number of expeditions aimed at describing the local chicken populations in the North Ossetia and Volgo-Vyatka regions; these were organised by Serebrovsky and initiated the genogeographical studies in Russia. A number of reports from those expeditions are stored in the Russian Academy of Sciences Archive and have still to be reanalysed. In the late 1920s and 1930s Petrov wrote a series of papers on chicken genetics, many of them in co-authorship with Serebrovsky. One of these articles (‘The Composition of the Plan of the Chromosomes of the Domestic FowI’, published in 1930 in the Journal of Experimental Biology Series A, Volume 6, Issue 2, pp. 61-72, in Russian) is considered one of the first attempts to summarise the available data on chicken linkage groups. It preceded by six years the paper by F. B. Hutt - a fact overlooked or underestimated by all past and contemporary chicken genome mappers. In this paper Serebrovsky and Petrov presented the first chicken map comprising four linkage groups with 12 genes and four other unlinked genes..

En 1972 fue solista con la Orquesta Filarmónica de Barna, bajo la dirección de Emil Glavanacov, en los Conciertos para oboe de Haydn y Mozart. Comparte escenario con Radostina Petkova quien ha sido solista con distintas orquestas. Se desempeña también como notable intérprete de música de cámara con destacados instrumentistas, cantantes y con varios conjuntos. Ha realizado grabaciones para la Radio Nacional de Bulgaria, la Radio Nacional de Colombia. En este concierto interpretaron obras de Georg Ph. Telemann, Alexander Scriabin, Paul Hindemith, Henri Dutilleux, Rankigyórgy, Paul Dukas y Eugene Bozza

    Melanesicus caledoniae (Beaver & Liu) comb. n. Xyleborus caledoniae Beaver & Liu 2016: 26. Taxonomy. The senior author has examined the holotype (MNHN) and paratypes (QMB, RAB). A. Petrov has examined a further specimen from New Caledonia. The species is distinguished from other species of Melanesicus primarily by its elytral sculpture (see key above, and Beaver & Liu 2016). Distribution. The species is endemic to New Caledonia. New record: NEW CALEDONIA: S-Prov. Among the American species this most closely resembles P. assiduus. Diagnosis. Length 2.45 mm, 4 as long as wide (Petrov & Atkinson 2018: 42). Very slender, with proportionately elongate pronotum. Frons shining, weakly reticulate, with sparse setae. Pronotum elongate, 80% as long as elytra; anterior margin rounded, weakly elevated with small asperities; summit located about 25% of length from anterior margin. Disc smooth, shining, with shallow, sparse punctures; vestiture a mixture of taller and shorter erect setae. Elytral striae not impressed, interstriae 2 width of striae; vestiture of erect setae, length greater than width of interstriae, mostly uniseriate, about twice as long at base of declivity. Declivity occupying posterior 33% of elytral length. A raised posterolateral crest present from interstria 4 to apex, transition gradual above. Declivity with a small, sharp tooth near base on interstria 3, displaced mesally from declivital margin; a laterally flattened, apically rounded projection on crest about 2/3 of the distance to apex, its basal length greater than its height.     The Museum at FIT presented Exhibiting Fashion, its twenty-first academic symposium on Friday, March 8, 2019. This symposium explored the history of fashion curating, the different ways fashion is displayed in museum settings, and how national and regional identities influence fashion exhibitions. The symposium was organized in conjunction with Exhibitionism: 50 Years of The Museum at FIT, which commemorated the rich history of the museum, the site of more than 200 exhibitions since the 1970s.Dr. Julia Petrov is the curator of Western Canadian history at the Royal Alberta Museum in Edmonton. She writes about museology, fashion, gender, and popular culture, and is the author of the book Fashion, History, Museums: Inventing the Display of Dress
