    An architectural generative design process

    Get PDF
The paper discusses about architectural and urban design tools, and reports a prototype of parametric application that allows the designer to handle the architectural shape by using urban regulations. It is a Decision Support System (DSS), useful at the early stage of city planning as well as at the early stage of architectural design. The System integrates two different research topics: modelling in geo-referenced environment and modelling through constraints. Compared to the related works (Building Modelling on geo-referenced environment), our application is the first Generative System based on the urban regulation. Three case studies are presented to test the System

A Generative System to support architectural and urban design

The work presents a system able to generate three-dimensional models of buildings, directly within a 3D geobrowser as Google EarthTM. For this purpose we have developed the prototype of a parametric application that allows the designer to handle the architectural shape by using the main constraints belong to urban regulations. The system integrates two different research topics: modelling in geo-referenced environment and modelling constraints. Compared to the related works (Building Modeling within georeferenced environment), our application is the first Generative Design System based on the urban regulation. It is a Decision Support System (DDS), useful at the early stage of city planning as well as at the stage of architectural design. Some case studies are presented in order to test the Generative Design System: the design of residential buildings in an Italian city

Sustainable Hospital Architecture: Quality Principles for a Responsable Design

    No full text
The theme of sustainability in the hospital design is today a subject widely discussed in the architectural field. The functioning of the health facility, also under the point of view of physical and organizational consistency is one of the primary objectives of the national government. There is the urgency to answer adequately and responsibly for the needs of society, assuring physical and psychological comfort and putting the center of the design process the individual sanitary needs. The social transformations and the technological progress in sanitary field have considerably modified the hospital conception. The hospital becomes space in which the individual is revalued for him itself and for the interaction with other individuals, with the environment, with the equipments and activities. From neutral envelope, aseptic and emarginating, the hospital space therefore becomes relation and meeting space. Factors not easily schematizeable contribute to defining of the quality of the space in terms of humanization. The attention towards the "affective" charge of users and operators, towards the complexity of their relationship: the atmosphere, the sensations which the space causes, the behaviours and the people's expectations. Starting from the hospital concept evolution and from the analysis of the implied problems in the programming and management also of the rules health, the paper synthetically intends to define the tipological and technological quality principles basic to the design process, aimed at an hospital architecture responsible and sustainable

Investigation of inductive coupling solutions for E-bike wireless charging

Wireless charging of electric vehicle batteries is a major topic for academic and industrial research. The wireless charging is based on the inductive coupling between a primary coil, connected to the grid, and a secondary coil, connected to the vehicle battery. Wireless battery charging provides benefits in terms of comfort for the drivers, who should just park to start the charging operation, without needing to plug in the vehicle. Wireless charging is particularly convenient for E-bike users. For the bicycle charging, the inductive coupling should be implemented through a compact and light-weight solution. In this paper, different options of inductively coupled coils for E- bike charging are investigated in order to accurately evaluate the potential benefits in terms of efficiency and tolerance to misalignments

Experimental Validation of Maximum Constant Boost Control and Switching Frequency Optimal for three-phase Quasi-Z-Source Converters

    No full text
This paper presents a modified modulation scheme for quasi-Z-Source converters, based on the Maximum Constant Boost Control (MCBC) concept and Switching Frequency Optimal (SFO) as reference signal. The effectiveness of the proposed technique is validated by comparing the obtained results (in terms of AC harmonic content and voltage stress) with those carried out from traditional modulation schemes. For this reason, a test bench has been assembled and the benefits of the SFO MCBC modulation scheme have been valuated

L'erpetofauna delle Riserva Naturale di Bosco Nordio

We report the results of the qualitative census on the Reptiles and Amphibians of the Bosco Nordio (113 ha), a Natural Reserve near the mouth of the river Adige. This study was a part of the reintroduction project of the Emys orbicularis within the Natural Reserve, and was carried out from June to July 2003. Amphibians were checked in all ponds and ditches of the Reserve, while Reptiles were searched along wood edges and open areas. The community of the Bosco Nordio, before the reintroduction of the E. orbicularis, was composed by 6 species of Amphibians (Triturus carnifex, Bufo bufo, Hyla intermedia, Rana synklepton esculenta, R. dalmatina and R. latastei) and 7 species of Reptiles (Testudo hermanni, Anguis fragilis, Lacerta bilineata, Podarcis muralis, P. sicula, Hierophis viridiflavus and Natrix natrix). Despite the high number of species, most of them seems to be represented by very few individuals

Performative Architecture: New Semantic for New Shapes?

    No full text
Two innovations have more deeply changed the building process: the operational continuity of the design and construction phases and the software allowing not only the representation but also the autonomous creation of complex shapes never before thought, just because they could not be represented. This last innovation introduce to a “Performative Architecture” that addresses to emerge a new kind of architecture. Building performances (structural, environmental, energetic) are guiding design principles, adopting new building performance-based priorities for the design of cities, buildings and landscape. This emerging architecture places broadly defined performance above form making, It utilises digital technologies of quantitative and qualitative performance-based simulation to offer a comprehensive approach to the design of the build environment. Some aspects of “Performative Architecturei theories are critically examined and we report two experiments made using these procedures. The results try to give a contribution to detect some misunderstandings in relation to recent building projects shown
