LA POLITICA DISTRIBUTIVA NEI MERCATI ESTERI FRA CANALI OFFILINE E ONLINE: IL CASO DELLA NUOVA SIMONELLI
A lot of studies have found that internal factors (i.e., size, age, experience, management attitudes, innovation capabilities, etc.) influence the firm’s export performance. Among these factors, the ability to develop close relationships with foreign distributors has been proven to be a critical success factor.
The primary purpose of this paper is to investigate the role of manufacturer-foreign distributor relationships in the internationalization process and in the competitiveness of industrial firm. The empirical research is based on a case study analysis, regarding an Italian manufacturing SME in the United States. This firm represents an “excellent case” of Made in Italy in the professional espresso machines industry. One of the most important emerging trends in the American market is the diffusion of e-commerce, that is changing the marketing channels’ structure and the commercial relationships. This trend is causing a serious problem of “channel conflict”, creating new challenges for the manufacturer. Aspetti economici ed organizzativi della progettazione di una piattaforma del prodotto lavabiancheria
L'obiettivo del presente paper è di illustrare i molteplici aspetti e le principali implicazioni economiche ed organizzative della politica delle "piattaforme di prodotto"; questa risulta una delle tipologie più diffuse della "gestione multiproject" nella realtà di parecchi settori industriali
L'analisi viene svolta in base alle evidenze empiriche, emerse dallo studio di un caso aziendale, relativo ad un'impresa leader nel settore degli "elettrodomestici bianchi". Senza voler operare alcuna generalizzazione, è possibile comunque rilevare che concepire la piattaforma di prodotto secondo una visione esclusivamente "tecnologica" appare riduttivo: essa assume anche un significato strategico e culturale, che si estrinseca in una modalità innovativa di gestire la gamma produttiva. Nel caso della "Business Unit lavabiancheria" tale approccio progettuale costituisce una fonte rilevante del vantaggio competitivo

The primary purpose of this paper is to investigate the internationalization strategy of an Italian medium-sized firm, with a particular focus to the entry strategy in foreign markets. The research questions are the following: 1. What are the main drivers of the firm’s internationalization process? 2. How the process has been developed (how, when and where)? 3. How is the entry strategies portfolio arranged?
From a methodological point of view, the empirical research is based on a case study analysis, regarding an Italian roasting firm: Kimbo spa. Espresso coffee is one of the most important Made in Italy products, and the Italian roasting industry is strongly export-oriented. At present, coffee is a “global beverage” and foreign demand has been growing for several years. In addition, Italian market is mature, with an intense competition and both these conditions favour the internationalization of roasting firms.
The firm analysed is interesting for two main reasons: first of all, it’s a medium-sized firm and recently there is a growing attention to this particular type of firm as regards to its international performance both in business and academic press; secondly, studies about the roasting industry are very few, even if this sector is extremely relevant for domestic economy.
The findings emerged from the case study permit to strengthen some theoretical indications and to contradict some others
