Uno sguardo sui borghi antichi e le città artistiche del Sud
No full textL’Associazione Culturale “Il Sileno” ha organizzato nei giorni 3, 4 e 5 maggio 2017, presso la Sala Mostre dell’Aula Magna “B. Andreatta” dell’Università della Calabria, la mostra fotografica “Uno sguardo sui borghi antichi e le città artistiche del Sud”, curata dai dottori di ricerca Valeria Dattilo e Francesco De Pascale.
La manifestazione, sostenuta dall’Università della Calabria, è stata anche patrocinata dal Dipartimento di Storia, Società e Studi sull’Uomo dell’Università del Salento, dalla Società Geografica Italiana, dalla Società di Studi Geografici, dall’Associazione Italiana Insegnanti di Geografia, sezione Calabria, dal Comune di Lago, dalla Consulta delle Associazioni di Tropea e del Territorio, dalla Pro loco di Parghelia e dall’associazione di promozione sociale “Cosi Mali” di Zambrone.
Il principale obiettivo della mostra è stato quello di accentrare l’attenzione di tutti (governi, amministrazioni, cittadini, studenti) sulle notevoli ricchezze culturali e artistiche presenti nel Sud Italia, che rischiano di cadere nell’oblio. Tra l’altro, il Sud Italia è l’area a più alto rischio sismico d’Italia e i governi locali, le Amministrazioni Comunali del Sud Italia dovrebbero prendere consapevolezza della rilevanza dello straordinario patrimonio artistico-monumentale di cui dispongono: centri storici di incredibile bellezza, un immenso patrimonio culturale da salvaguardare. Infatti, i centri storici devono essere restaurati ed abbelliti, recuperando, così, un giacimento inesauribile di bellezza e di attrattività.
È, allora, necessario che il patrimonio culturale, espressione più alta delle capacità creative di un popolo, sia tutelato e valorizzato dalle istituzioni, dalle università e con la partecipazione attiva dei cittadini, contribuendo a rafforzare la coesione sociale delle comunità e a creare le migliori condizioni per lo sviluppo socio-economico dei territori.
L’inaugurazione della mostra si è svolta mercoledì 3 maggio 2017 alle 15. La mostra è proseguita il 4 maggio dalle 9 alle 17 e il 5 dalle 9 alle 14

No full textNei paesi di lingua anglosassone con bedding plants tradizionalmente si indicano le piante erbacee utilizzate all’esterno per la realizzazione di aiuole (in inglese flower beds) o di spazi privati di esigua superficie (es. davanzali e balconi), il cui ciclo prende avvio in vivaio in condizioni controllate e che sono poi vendute a hobbisti o a giardinieri per essere trapiantate a dimora.
La locuzione di bedding plant dovrebbe quindi essere utilizzata per indicare tutte quelle piante che, prodotte da vivai specializzati, sono utilizzate, dopo il trapianto, per la realizzazione di spazi a verde,anche minimi. Secondo tale definizione, ad esempio, la begonia(Begonia × semperflorens-cultorum hort.) può essere considerata sia bedding plant, se trapiantata e ricoltivata dopo l’acquisto, sia pianta d’appartamento, se lasciata nel contenitore originario
Custom-made Articulating Spacer in Two-stage Revision Total Knee Arthroplasty : An Early Follow-up of 14 Cases of at Least 1 Year After Surgery
No full textTotal knee replacement (TKR) infection represents only a small percentage of all the potential complications in joint replacement, but one that can lead to disastrous consequences. Two-stage revision, which has been proven to be the most effective technique in eradicating infection, includes prosthesis removal, positioning of an antibiotic-loaded spacer, and systemic antimicrobial therapy for at least 6 weeks. It has been suggested that there is better performance in terms of range of motion, pain, extensor mechanism shortening, and spacer-related bone loss if articulating spacers are used instead of fixed spacers. In this paper, we describe our results in two-stage revision of infected total knee arthroplasty with a minimum follow-up of 12 months on 14 patients treated by antibiotic-loaded custom-made articulating spacer as described by Villanueva et al. (Acta Orthop 77(2):329-332, 2006). The mean flexion achieved after the second stage of the revision was 120 degrees , ranging from 97 degrees to 130 degrees. The mean Hospital for Special Surgery score was 84. At 1 year after surgery, none of the knees showed any evidence of recurrence of the infection. Articulating spacers are a suitable alternative to fixed spacers with good range of motion after reimplantation and effectiveness against total knee replacement deep infections

Prevention of venous thromboembolism after knee arthroscopy : six years experience with the low molecular weight nadroparin calcium
No full textAim. Knee arthroscopy is the most common orthopedic procedure, but few data are available on the epidemiology of venous thromboembolism (VTE) after this kind of surgery. From this point of view, knee arthroscopy is considered a low-risk intervention, and clear indications for antithrombotic prophylaxis in this setting are lacking. Methods. From January 2000 to December 2006 we prospectively evaluated 1 800 patients undergoing knee arthroscopy, and considered at particularly low risk of VTE (no concomitant known risk factors, tourniquet time less than 30 min). These patients received weight-adjusted low molecular weight heparin (nadroparin calcium, 2 850 to 5 700 IU, one subcutaneous injection per day starting 6 hours after arthroscopy) for two weeks. Patients were followed-up for two weeks for the occurrence of symptomatic, instrumentally confirmed VTE, and/or bleeding episodes. Results. Seven cases of distal deep vein thrombosis were documented (overall incidence of VTE was 0.38%). The most frequent registered adverse events were mild hemarthrosis and reactions at injection site; no cases of major bleeding occurred. Conclusion. In this large cohort of low-risk patients, VTE appears as a possible complication of knee arthroscopy, though at an extent probably lowered by the systematic use of antithrombotic prophylaxis. The present study seems to support the feasibility of pharmacological antithrombotic prophylaxis in these patients, with encouraging indications as for benefit/risk ratio. Our experience might stimulate further efforts to better assess and face this open medical issue
