    Industrial workstations design: A real case study

    The research work advances the effective design of the most critical workstations belonging to a real industrial plant; to this end, the authors propose an approach based on the integration of Modeling & Simulation tools, several ergonomic standards and the most known work measurement tools. The Modeling and simulation tools allow to implement a three-dimensional environment capable of recreating, with satisfactory accuracy, the evolution over the time of the real workstations. The ergonomic standards consent to evaluate the ergonomic risks level within the system being considered. The work measurement tools permit to calculate the time required for performing all the workstations operations. The effective design of the workstations is achieved by using the simulation model for comparing workstations' alternative configurations. The comparison is based on ergonomic and time indexes related to the ergonomic standards and the work measurement tools. Such comparison allows to choose the workstations final configurations

    Airport terminals' performance analysis: A case study

    The paper presents a simulation model of an Italian airport terminal, the International Airport of Lamezia Terme in Calabria (Italy). The software tool adopted for the simulation model implementation is AnylogicTM by XJ Technologies. After the modeling phase, the simulation model has been validated comparing simulation results with real system results. The performance measure chosen for testing system behavior under different operative scenarios is a mean utilization index of the terminal. The output data of the simulation model are then analyzed by means of ANOVA in order to understand how some critical input parameters (number of security check lines, of passport controls and check-ins) affect system performance

    The starting point of the research work is the actual configuration of a workstation (Pressure test workstation) belonging to a manufacturing system operating in the field of idraulic hoses production. The objective of the paper is twofold. From one side it aims at comparing four different work methods for optimizing the workstation productivity. Note that the comparison is accomplished according to the work methods process time. From the other side the authors aim at comparing two different work measurement methods trying to establish the more efficient one. Note that the work measurement methods are used for calculating the work methods process time. Moreover, the authors adopt a Modeling & Simulation (M&S) based approach for implementing a three dimensional environnment capable of recreating the Pressure test workstation with satisfactory accuracy.
