Liszt, Giovanni Pacini, Maria Giuli, e la Sinfonia Dante: alcuni inediti
This essay presents some unpublished letters (1863-1877) of Liszt to the composer Giovanni Pacini and his Roman student Maria Giuli, niece of Pacini, and letters of the same Giuli in which she speaks of Liszt. At the instance of Liszt (and thanks to the intervention of Giuli), Pacini sent to the Hungarian composer the score of his Sinfonia Dante, composed and performed in Florence during the celebrations of Dante sixth centenary (1865). One can easily suppose that Liszt’s interest stemmed from having himself composed only a few years earlier Eine Symphonie zu Dantes Divina Commedia, which was performed in Rome just a few months later the exchange of letters with Pacini. Other documents give information about Giuli and her relationship with Accademia Nazionale di S. Cecilia. All these documents are kept in the Biblioteca nazionale centrale in Rome, in the “Fondo Giovanni Pacini” of the Museo civico in Pescia, in the Archivio storico of Accademia nazionale di Santa Cecilia, where Giuli was admitted in 186
Estimating heterogeneous causal effects in observational studies using small area predictors
The official statistics produced by National Statistical Institutes are mainly used by policy makers to take decisions. In particular, when policy makers and decision takers would like to know the impact of a given policy, it is important to acknowledge the heterogeneity of the treatment effects for different domains. If the domain of interest is small with regard to its sample size, then the evaluator has entered the small area estimation (SAE) dilemma. Based on the modification of the Inverse Propensity Weighting estimator and the traditional small area predictors, new estimators of area specific average treatment effects are proposed for unplanned domains. A robustified version of the predictor against presence of the outliers is also developed. Analytical Mean Squared Error (MSE) estimators of the proposed predictors are derived. These methods provide a tool to map the policy impacts that can help to better target the treatment group(s). The properties of these small area estimators are illustrated by means of a design-based simulation using a real data set where the aim is to study the effects of permanent versus temporary contracts on the economic of households in different o
Schmerzhaftes Vater-Pacini-Neurom des Fingers bei Neurofibromatose Typ 1
Vater-Pacini neuromas are rare causes of severe pain in the phalanges. The cause of this change in the tactile corpuscles is unknown. A traumatic cause has been plausibly demonstrated, at least in some cases. Here, the rare occurrence of a Vater-Pacini neuroma in a patient with neurofibromatosis type 1 is reported. The discussion addresses the difficulties of terminology and current diagnostic procedures for differentiating small nodular masses of the palm and digits. The surgical treatment leads to rapid relief of the symptoms.

INACTIVATION OF [S-35] TERT-BUTYLBICYCLOPHOSPHOROTHIONATE BINDING-SITES BY THE ARGININE REAGENT, 2,3-BUTANEDIONE
The "cage" convulsant [S-35]t-butylbicyclophosphorothionate(S-35]TBPS) binds with high affinity to specific sites "at" or "near" a gamma-amino-butyric acid (GABA)-gated chloride channel according to current hypothesis. We now report that pretreatment of membranes with 2,3-butanedione, an arginine-specific reagent, causes a dose- and time-dependent decrease in the number of [S-35]TBPS binding sites. No decrease occurs when membranes are pretreated with 2,3-butanedione in the presence of picrotoxinin. Binding of [S-35]TBPS to the remaining sites occurs with the same characteristics as binding to the untreated receptor population

The "cage" convulsant [(35)S]t-butylbicyclophosphorothionate ([(35)S]TBPS) binds with high affinity to specific sites "at" or "near" a ?-amino-butyric acid (GABA)-gated chloride channel according to current hypothesis.
