Female: Unknown Etymology. This new species takes the name “gauteovan” after the Tayrona goddess as a tribute to the place from which the holotype was collected. In the Tayrona culture this goddess is considered the mother of all things. The name is treated as a noun in apposition. Distribution. This new species is only known so far from the Tayrona National Park in the Caribbean region in Colombia at sea level (Fig 3). Remarks. Mallophora gauteovan sp. nov. differs from other species of Mallophora by the brown body color and the color pattern of the ventral setae of the hind tibia, in which there are brown setae on the basal third, whereas the apical two thirds have white setae; dorsally the setae are brown, except for a small area of white setae, increasing in size towards apex. Following the key of Artigas & Angulo (1980), this species might be confused with M. thompsoni Artigas & Angulo, 1980 because of the setae on the hind tibia increase in length toward the apical third, and by the white setae on the hind femur. Nonetheless, M. thompsoni has a black body, hyaline wings and epandrium with white setae, whereas M. gauteovan sp. nov. has a reddish-brown body, the wings are opaque brown, and the epandria has yellow setae, same as the abdomen. More importantly, it seems from the description of M. thompsoni, that the color pattern of the hind tibia is different, because in this species the basal has white setae, whereas in M. gauteovan sp. nov. only the apical two thirds ventrally are white. Although the description is based on a single specimen, we argue that it represents a new species based on the particular color pattern of the setae on the hind legs, especially on the hind tibia. Previous evidence (Artigas & Angulo, 1980, Kohler et al., 2013) and careful examination of additional species of Mallophora (S. Yepes unpubl. obs.), enable us to confirm that males of every species have a particular color pattern and chaetotaxy on the hind legs. Therefore, having a single male allows us to hypothesize that this specimen belongs to a new species.Published as part of Yepes, Sol & Forero, Dimitri, 2021, Two new species of the bee-mimicking genus Mallophora (Diptera, Asilidae) from Colombia, pp. 431-440 in Zootaxa 4926 (3) on page 433, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.4926.3.7, http://zenodo.org/record/452944

Marketing scholars have suggested a need for more empirical research on consumer response to malls, in order to have a better understanding of the variables that explain the behavior of the consumers. The segmentation methodology CHAID (Chi-square automatic interaction detection) was used in order to identify the profiles of consumers with regard to their activities at malls, on the basis of socio-demographic variables and behavioral variables (how and with whom they go to the malls). A sample of 790 subjects answered an online questionnaire. The CHAID analysis of the results was used to identify the profiles of consumers with regard to their activities at malls. In the set of variables analyzed the transport used in order to go shopping and the frequency of visits to centers are the main predictors of behavior in malls. The results provide guidelines for the development of effective strategies to attract consumers to malls and retain them there

La información en el origen y desarrollo de la Documentación

The contribution of José López Yepes has as main purpose to propose a reflection on the fundamentals of the Documentation, the Library and Information Science in a time of great changes and the loss of many landmarks. According to the scholar we must start from the study of the concepts of information and documents and their close relationship. The message, says Yepes, is transmitted through the document in space and time and so in turn become an important source of information. Information is therefore the core and foundation of documentation and related disciplines, although it can not be considered an exclusive object of their study. We must then go back to think about the document, and in particular on its nature, since it is a necessary starting point for scholars of the subject. The author, in this article, in addition to signaling the need for a theoretical study aims to rediscover the work of Paul Otlet and in particular the Traité de Documentation (1934). The aim is not simply to pay tribute to the founder of modern documentation, but to invite to recognize the relevance of a thought that still can make an important contribution to the redefinition of key concepts of the discipline

The concept and development of the Yepes ten-string guitar : a preliminary investigation

    No full text
The purpose of this study is to provide a broader understanding of the Yepes ten-string guitar. Since its inception, twenty-eight years ago, no authoritative work has been published providing inferential detail which explains the concept and development of the Yepes guitar. As a result, this instrument has been, and still is, criticized by some, largely from ignorance or lack of knowledge about the instrument. In an attempt to rectify this situation and make the instrument's extended possibilities known, the author has undertaken extensive research and has interviewed, amongst others, leading international authorities associated with the Yepes ten-string guitar. As a result of these efforts, a clearer and more positive understanding of the instrument has emerged. This in turn has become the foundation on which this dissertation has been written. The opening chapter of this dissertation provides an overview, showing how the guitar emerged and developed before the concept of multi-string guitars became established in Europe, during the second half of the eighteenth century. Aspects pertaining to the early guitar's physical features, performance practices, music, tuning and stringing methods are discussed. Several multi-string vihuelas and guitars are also mentioned. The following chapter presents a survey of numerous experiments carried out during the 1770-1900 period; to 'improve' the capabilities of the guitar. Here a number of early multi-string instruments related to the Yepes ten-string guitar are discussed. These include guitars with added basses, guitars with added trebles, guitars with added basses and trebles, and guitars with multiple necks. The third chapter shows how out of an enormous variety of eccentric forms of the guitar, some professional guitarists opted for multi-string guitars (with added basses) as their instruments, whilst others preferred the six-string variety. The music of guitarist-composers who composed for multi-string guitars is discussed alongside those who wrote specifically for the six-string guitar. The rationale for the tuning and disposition of strings on most of these multi-string guitars, past and present, as well as several illustrations showing their physical features are included. The penultimate chapter comprises an interview with Narciso Yepes and other leading figures associated with the ten-string guitar. The reasons behind Yepes' unique concept for the ten-string guitar, arguments for and against the instrument, as well as its tuning and problems related to playing this instrument are discussed. The chapter includes an inquiry(with examples) showing how the ten-string guitar can be used, amongst other things, to facilitate the playing of difficult passages in music originally composed for the six-string guitar. The extension of the repertoire with music composed specifically for this instrument is also briefly discussed. A comprehensive discography of recordings made by Narciso Yepes on the ten-string guitar is presented in the appendix. A more detailed discussion of the ten-string guitar repertoire in the twentieth century is presented in the final chapter. It includes several compositions originally intended for the traditional guitar, which have become associated with the Yepes guitar. At least five compositions composed and dedicated to Narciso Yepes by various composers are also examined. It is concluded that this instrument clearly offers more than what has been assumed over the past twenty-eight years
