Simulation of a four sensor probe using a rotating dual sensor probe

    No full text
In the current project a rotating dual sensor probe has been designed and fabricated. A set of measurements were performed using the rotating dual sensor. Analysis on the results occurred, and it showed that the rotating dual sensor with the supporting algorithm has an acceptable, reliable and repeatable performance for measurements in multiphase flows

Measurement of Reference Bubble Velocity Vector for a Local 4 Sensor Probe Using Orthogonal High Speed Cameras

    No full text
In recent years, there has been an increase in the level of interest shown in making flow rate measurements in multiphase flow. This in part has been brought about by the metering requirements of the oil and natural gas industries. Measuring the volumetric flow rate of each of the flowing components is often required and this is particularly true in production logging applications, where it may be necessary to measure the flow rates of oil and water down hole in vertical and inclined oil wells. Within the University of Huddersfield, work has been undertaken on the study of vertical and inclined multiphase flow. Previous work was based on the use of local, dual-sensor conductance probes to obtain the local axial velocity and volume fraction of the bubbles in multiphase flows. The purpose of this research presented in this paper is to investigate the accuracy with which a 4-sensor probe can measure bubble velocity vectors using two orthogonal high speed cameras. The probe was manufactured from 0.3mm diameter stainless steel acupuncture needles due to their high level of rigidity. The acupuncture needles were mounted inside a stainless steel tube with an outer diameter of 4mm. A procedure was carried out whereby where all the readings are taken simultaneously from both the cameras and 4-sensor probe. The camera and DAQ setting are made such they were controlled by an external trigger signal that is achieved thought the same circuit that is been used for the probe signal. The velocity vector of the top plane, centre of gravity (COG) and bottom plane of the bubbles were measured using the high speed cameras and compared with the bubble velocity vector obtained from the probe signal. In this paper bubble velocity vector is quantified in term of a polar angle α an azimuthal angle β and a velocity magnitude

Gas volume fraction and velocity profiles: vertical and inclined bubbly air-water flows

    No full text
Upward inclined gas-liquid flows are frequently encountered in the oil industry and data relating to the local gas volume fraction distribution and the local gas velocity distribution is important, for example, in pressure gradient prediction and in modeling oil well 'blowouts'. In this paper measurements are presented of the local gas volume fraction distribution and the local axial gas velocity distribution which were taken in bubbly air-water flows in an 80 mm diameter pipe which was inclined at angles of 0°, 15° and 30° to the vertical. Qualitative arguments are presented to explain the influence of the liquid superficial velocity on the local gas volume fraction distribution in inclined flow and also to explain the very high axial gas velocities observed towards the upper side of the inclined pipe

Although Greece has never been a colony, it ranks high among countries whose students do their university work abroad, which is a feature observed primarily in new developing States. Study abroad is increasingly the key to prestigious jobs in the power field, while the national establishments are most often limited to lower-level training, namely for jobs as executants, technicians, middle management, high-school teachers. The author proposes a general model for rethinking the university field, taking the field of marginal universities which are relegated to a sort of university diaspora, and relating these to both the field of international power and the field of international universities. Analysing the social factors which determine the choice of the different countries enables the author to account for the constant features of the university and intellectual life of the country, and thereby contributes to an understanding of the international struggle for domination in the area of culture. Panayotopoulos Nikos. Meanders and Motzkin Words

    No full text
We study the construction of closed meanders and systems of closed meanders, using Motzkin words with four letters. These words are generated by applying binary operation on the set of Dyck words. The procedure is based on the various kinds of intersection of the meandric curve with the horizontal line
