No full textThe article offers an analytical view of institutional documents, published by Quebec's Education Ministry and other institutions such as the Superior Council of Education. To size the meanings of "cityzenship", it is not only necessary to analyze the documents that dra a path leading to the reform of the curriculum, but also to study how the entire Quebecois education system is in the middle of a changing phase in which citizenship education plays a more o less defined role. The idea comes up is one of an individual capable of managing how to get through a complex world, that knowes how to read and interpret it, an individual fairly well and ever changing reality, the best expression hich characterizes the on-going process is "neo-liberalitation of education"

The widespread labels lead us to think that the state of discouragement of the puerpera is "normal" or is a form of postpartum depression. Normalized or pathologized, the state of melancholy, sadness, anger, despair of women is silenced in any case, kept in the silence in which the woman has no holds to pull herself up. Periodontal Disease and Vitamin D Deficiency in Pregnant Women: Which Correlation with Preterm and Low-Weight Birth?
No full textPeriodontal disease seems to be correlated with low vitamin D serum levels, preterm birth (PTB) and low birth weight (LBW), although the literature still lacks a consensus. This study aimed to investigate this correlation in a cohort of pregnant women over 20 weeks of gestation from the University Hospital "Maggiore della Carità", Novara, Italy. We assessed serum levels of vitamin D and oral health status through the following indexes: Oral Hygiene Index (OHI), Plaque Control Record (PCR), Gingival Bleeding Index (GBI), and Community Periodontal Index of Treatment Needs (CPTIN). Moreover, we assessed the number of PTB and LBW among the newborns. Out of 121 pregnant women recruited, 72 (mean age 29.91 ± 3.64 years) were included. There was a statistically significant correlation between preterm and OHI > 3 (p = 0.033), and between LBW and OHI > 3 (p = 0.005) and CPITN = 3 (p = 0.027). Both pregnant women with vitamin D deficiency ((25-hydroxy-vitamin D) < 30 ng/mL) and PTB plus LBW newborns were significantly correlated (p < 0.05) with poor levels of all oral health status indexes during pregnancy. Furthermore, these conditions (women with hypovitaminosis D and combination of PTB and LBW) were shown to be significantly correlated (p < 0.001). Taken together, our findings reported a high prevalence of PTB and LBW with poor oral health and vitamin D deficiency in pregnant women
The course of cancer related fatigue up to ten years in early breast cancer patients. What impact in clinical practice?
No full textLittle is known about the cancer related fatigue (CRF) along cancer course and risk factors that could predict CRF development and persistence in breast cancer (BC) survivors. This prospective study detected incidence, timing of onset, duration of CRF, impact on QoL and psychological distress. Seventy-eight early BC patients, undergoing chemotherapy (CT) followed or not by hormonal therapy were assessed for QoL and psychological distress by EORTC QLQC30 and HADs questionnaires. Fatigue was investigated with mix methods, structured interview and psychometric measures. A qualitative analysis was added to assess the behavioral pattern of CRF. Low fatigue levels were identified after surgery (9%), increasing during (49%) and at the end of CT (47%), maintaining after 1 year (31%) and declining up to ten years of follow-up. Prevalence of CRF was higher at the end of CT and lower at follow-up. At the end and after 1 and 2 years from CT, persistence of CRF was associated to anxiety in 20%, 11% and 5% and to depression in 15%, 10% and 5% respectively. A relationship between CRF and psychological distress was observed; patients presenting depression and anxiety before CT were at higher risk for fatigue onset at a later period. A relationship between fatigue and QoL was noted at the end of CT. Our study shows the fatigue timely trend in early BC patients from surgery, CT and follow-up. Identification of biological, psychological, social predictor factors related to fatigue could be helpful for early interventions in patients at higher risk of developing fatigue

No full textThe b -glycosidase from the hyperthermophilic Archaeon Pyrococcus horikoshii (Phob-gly) is a monomeric enzyme with wide substrate specificity belonging to family 1 of glycoside hydrolases classification. Inspection of the three-dimensional structure of the enzyme, recently resolved, showed that Phob-gly is membrane bound and that the residues putatively involved in the catalytic activity are Glu155 and Glu324 working as the general acid/base and the nucleophile of the reaction, respectively. We show here that mutation of the latter completely eliminated the activity of the enzyme and that it could be reactivated in the presence of sodium formate. Analysis of the products obtained in the presence of sodium formate buffer pH 4.0 at 758C showed that the Glu324Gly mutant acts as a hyperthermophilic glycosynthase
