He was listed on the 1911 Darwin electoral roll and as working with the Public Works Department in Darwin at the time of enlistment. Listed on the 1916 electoral roll at his father?s residence in Subiaco as a clerk. By the 1925 electoral roll he was listed in the district of Swan as a musician and viticulturist. He married Ethel M. Mallen in Perth in 1929. By 1937 and through until 1949 Alfred was listed as an orderly in the district of Perth. Alfred Frederick Schofield (60), of Monash-avenue, Hollywood, collapsed while at work in the Perth City Council Chambers, Murray Street. City, at 3.30 p.m. yesterday. Efforts by St. John ambulance men to revive him were not successful and he was dead on arrival at the Royal Perth Hospital.Unit embarked from Brisbane on board Transport A55 'Kyarra' on 21 November 1914. The personal and national costs of lost labour force participation due to arthritis: an economic study
Arthritis is a common and costly health condition internationally. The direct medical costs of arthritis are significant, with the condition being the fourth most common reason for seeking general practitioner medical care. Treatment of arthritis in Australia cost around $4 billion (AU) in health system expenditure in 2004–05, the fourth largest cause of health expenditure in the country. However, this figure covers only the direct medical costs, and the indirect costs, are considered to be larger. Within Australia arthritis has been listed as a ‘National Health Priority Area’, and affects 15% of the population. By 2020 the prevalence of the condition is estimated to increase, with arthritis potentially affecting 35% of the Australian population. Arthritis can cause significant activity limitation, and is responsible for around 13% of the disability reported in Australia. Due to its impact on functional ability, arthritis is associated with decreased labour force participation rates. Within Australia the impact of arthritis on labour force participation among people in the pre-retirement age group of 45 to 64 years is significant – with people suffering from arthritis being 3 times more likely to be out of the labour force than those with no chronic health condition.Authors: Deborah J Schofield, Rupendra N Shrestha, Richard Percival, Megan E Passey, Emily J Callander and Simon J Kell

World Climate Research Program Special Workshop on Climatic Effects of ozone depletion in the southern hemisphere: assessing the evidence and identifying gaps in the current knowledge
A World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) Special Workshop titled the “Climatic effects of ozone depletion in the Southern Hemisphere: Assessing the evidence and identifying gaps in the current knowledge” focused on the current understanding of Southern Hemisphere (SH) ozone depletion, in particular high-latitude ozone depletion, with regards to its impacts on hemispheric climate and its role relative to greenhouse gas (GHG)–induced climate changes. The 2010 United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)/World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Scientific Assessment of Ozone Depletion, and research published since, provided the starting point for discussion. The workshop was supported by WCRP, the National Science Foundation (NSF; United States), the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA; United States), Agencia Nacional de Promoción Científica y Técnica (Argentina), and the Pontificia Universidad Católica Argentina (Argentina).Fil: Canziani, Pablo Osvaldo. Heliothis dispersal and migration
A few of the many species of Heliothis (Lepidoptera, Noctuidae) are important crop pests in the Old and New Worlds. Among these, H.armigera, H.zea, H.virescens and H.punctigera are the best known. The former is a particularly destructive species of a wide range of crops cultivated in Africa, the Middle East and Asia, including several staple foods and important peasant farmer cash crops. As new cultivation techniques are introduced and more extensive areas of crops are grown, often on larger irrigation and Government development schemes, it appears that this pest is becoming increasingly important. There is a strong suspicion that H.armigera populations move locally between crops grown in sequence or intercropped and that probably more extensive migratory movement occurs, as has been demonstrated in the closely related species H. zea in North America. This has considerable implications for effective control of the pest on the crops of some of the least priviledged farmers of the Developing World and in some of the poorest countries. There are recorded instances of resistance to pesticides in the species. Clearly large scale movements could have an effect on dissemination of such resistance and affect the level of control exerted by local parasite and predator populations and hence the necessity for rapid control action to combat rapid population increases of the pest on both staple food and cash crops. The ability to forecast or warn of such incidents would assist in effective timing of control operations and maximise efficiency of any insecticidal input required. This bibliography consolidates much of the scattered literature on the migratory behaviour of Heliothis spp. and will help to identify gaps in the existing knowledge of this aspect of the ecology of the genus. It will hopefully assist in focussing attention on the necessity for work on H.armigera, which is of such great importance in Developing Countries. Work on migratory movement could lead to effective action both regionally and internationally to reduce possibilities of migration of damaging numbers of moths. It will certainly assist in increasing knowledge on the bionomics of one of the most damaging agricultural pest species in the Old World and be of benefit to some of the least advantaged farmers of the tropics
