These proteins may participate in intracellular lipid transport and influence regulatory lipid-dependent events. Here we report the isolation of an alternatively spliced hTAP3 cDNA and a polymorphism within the coding region of the hTAP3/SEC14L4 gene

No full textThe De ludo scacchorum in legale methodo tractatus (1583) of Tommaso Azzi, is not really a treatise on the game of chess, but a work that addresses various legal issues. In De ludo the theme of war is relevant. The aim of my essay is to show how the close connection between war, game of chess and law established by Azzi is functional to the idea of just war based on the game theory. According to Azzi the war has affinities to the game: strict rules, a limited and orderly space in which to take place, a position of equality between the parties. In this treaty the author underlines similarities between war and gaming and he represents war as a regulated phenomenon, within a path of “civilisation”.Il De ludo scacchorum in legali methodo tractatus (1583) del giurista Tommaso Azzi non è realmente un trattato sul gioco degli scacchi, ma un’opera che affronta varie questioni giuridiche. Tra i temi ricorrenti del De ludo troviamo il tema della guerra. La tesi di questo saggio è mostrare come la stretta connessione tra guerra, gioco degli scacchi e diritto stabilita da Azzi sia funzionale all’affermazione di una idea di guerra giusta ricalcata sul gioco. Tale guerra deve quindi possedere le caratteristiche proprie del gioco: regole severe, uno spazio limitato e ordinato in cui svolgersi, una posizione di uguaglianza tra le parti. Il trattato si inserisce così all’interno di una tradizione che, sottolineando le similitudini tra guerra e gioco, rappresenta la guerra come un fenomeno regolato, all’interno di un percorso di “civilizzazione”

The investigation of group selective intramolecular Diels-Alder reactions towards hydrindene moieties
No full textWe report the combination of an intramolecular Diels-Alder (IMDA) reaction and a desymmetrisation processes to build enantioselectively the steroid CD-ring moiety starting from an achiral precursor. This novel methodology would be applied in vitamin D total synthesis. (Fig. 6300) We describe the synthesis of 5-substittued-nona-1,3,6,8-tetraene, a simplified precursor, and its use in group selective IMDA reaction. We also describe our progress toward the synthesis of 4,6-dimethyl-5-substituted-nona-1,3,6,8-tetraene,the desired IMDA precursor. We report the attempts to form a skipped bis(diene) from a skipped bis(acetylene) system. We also described another attempt for the bis(diene) synthesis based on a double Wittig-Horner reaction which appeared to be unsuccessful. Eventually, the bis(diene) was prepared in 8 steps from ethyl sorbate. The second part of the project concerns the survey on the IMDA reaction. The reaction was studied with an achiral auxiliary and Lewis acid (chiral or achiral). The reaction was also studied out with chiral auxiliary and a Lewis acid. A wide range of Lewis acids were screened. It was found that the IMDA reaction proceeded in moderate yield with a good diastereoselectivity and excellent enantioselectivity.</p
Test results of heavily irradiated Si detectors
No full textA large use of silicon microstrip detectors is foreseen for the intermediate part of the CMS tracker. A specific research and development program has been carried out with the aim of finding design layouts and technological solutions for allowing silicon microstrip detectors to be reliably used on a high radiation level environment. As a result of this work single sided, AC-coupled, polysilicon biased, 300 mu m thick, p(+) on n substrate detectors were chosen. Irradiation tests have been performed on prototypes up to fluence 2 x 10(14) n/cm(2). The detector performances do not significantly change if the detectors are biased well above the depletion voltage. S/N is reduced by less than 20%, still enough to insure a good efficiency and space resolution. Multiguard structures has been developed in order to reach high voltage operation (above 500 V)
The CMS silicon microstrip detectors: research and development
No full textA large quantity of silicon microstrip detectors is foreseen to be used as part of the CMS tracker. A specific research and development program has been carried out with the aim of defining layouts and technological solutions suitable for the use of silicon detectors in high radiation environment. Results presented here summarise this work on many research areas such as techniques for device manufacturing, pre- and post-irradiation electrical characterization, silicon bulk defects analysis and simulations, system performance analytical calculations and simulations and test beam analysis. As a result of this work we have chosen to use single-sided, AC-coupled, poly silicon biased, 300 mu m thick, p(+) on n substrate detectors. We feel confident that these devices will match the required performances for the CMS tracker provided they can be operated at bias voltages as high as 500 V. Such high-voltage devices have been succesfully manufactured and we are now concentrating our efforts in enhancing yield and reliability

Analyzing Cost To Serve computation: model and application in a service sector
No full textA new quantitative Cost To Serve computation model is here developed and the results of its application in a real case highlights that the distribution network management may achieve great benefits by correctly allocating transportation and inventory costs to delivery points and identifying critical costumers at the same time. Each supplied delivery point, in fact, differently contribute to the construction of the overall Cost To Serve. The purpose of this work is to provide an easy-to-use methodology that may both quantitatively assess the effects of the daily transportation decisions and optimize medium-term shipping strategies
