    Solving Scheduling Deteriorating Jobs with Rate Modifying Activity

    Traditional scheduling problems assume that the processing time of a given job is always fixed. However, the processing times may change in real industrial applicants. To reflect the real world, we use two new phenomenons in this study. The first one is known as the deterioration job where the job processing times are defined by functions of their starting times and positions in the sequence. And, the other one is rate-modifying-activity is an activity which affects and changes the production rate of the machines. This study aims to determine the work sequence, the number of breaks and their positions within the work sequence while considering the deterioration jobs and rate-modifying-activities. In this dissertation, three different mathematical models are introduced to solve the scheduling problems. The first model addresses a classical single machine problem with makespan and total flow time objectives to consider deteriorating jobs and rate-modifying-activity. The second model introduces a single worker scheduling problem which considers workers’ physiological factors while determining the break time. The third model introduces a bi-criteria scheduling model with deteriorating jobs and rate-modifying-activities on a single machine. Also, several different heuristic algorithms are developed for large-sized problems. For each mathematical model and heuristic, independent experiments are performed to analyze the effectiveness of these algorithms

The main aim of this paper is to develop a framework for understanding the integration of green marketing concept with the marketing mix both in the form of 4Ps (price, place, promotion, product) and 4Cs (communication, costs, convenience, customer). This paper will deal with the environmentaly friendly measures to be taken by marketing organizations.     Ranking of Responsible Automotive Manufacturers According to Sustainability Reports Using PROMETHEE and VIKOR Methods

    Industrial activities and road transportation are the main contributors to air quality degradation and resource depletion. The automotive sector, which is one of the main players of the manufacturing industry and the supplier of road transport demand, is considered one of the most prominent symbols of pollution. Therefore, the issue of sustainability in the automotive industry is critical as it poses a wide range of challenges and negative externalities on the environment and society. This study aims to present a list of responsible consumption and production dimensions in line with the 12th United Nations Sustainable Development Goal and to rank the auto and auto part manufacturers in the Fortune Global 250. The authors use content analysis and text mining to identify 13 dimensions underlying responsible consumption and production. They then weigh each dimension according to the preferences of the experts using Delphi and the Analytical Hierarchy Process. After examining the dimensions in the sustainability reports of the selected companies, they rank them using the PROMETHEE and VIKOR techniques. They also show the robustness of the rankings

    Sustainable frozen food facility location selection under pandemic era

    Consumption of frozen food has increased significantly in many countries experiencing total closure due to epidemics. In order to meet this increase in demand, companies apply different strategies in both production and logistics processes. In particular, warehouse locations need to be closer to consumers so as not to disrupt the increasing demand and the cold chain. Considering the sustainable position in the frozen food industry, it is essential to focus on both commercial and economic impacts. However, especially the environmental and sustainable criteria have always been neglected in terms of planning the country and the city. Therefore, this study has three main research questions; (1) identify key criteria for sustainability-focused frozen food facility location, (2) understand the relationship between these criteria, and (3) develop a hierarchical sustainable location roadmap for practitioners. Initially, a literature review was conducted to find the answers to these questions and reveal suitable criteria. Secondly, PROMETHEE was used to determine the relative importance of the data-driven performance of the main and sub-criteria. Therefore, this study gives the reader a comprehensive insight into how sustainable data-driven performance criteria are applied in frozen food storage facility locations. Finally, the proposed model used real-life data to select a developing country's sustainable frozen food storage location

    New business model proposal in the digital age: sustainability-focused servitization

    Purpose With the pressure of global markets and demanding customers, most production companies are moving from pure production to the integration of products and services. This new formation is known as servitization and can give companies a strong competitive advantage. The recent studies in the literature propose that servitization has a positive impact on sustainability by improved energy consumption. However, they also underscored the need for better implementation of sustainability and the barriers avoiding sustainable servitization behavior. This research aims to investigate sustainability-oriented servitization barriers, which have not taken any attention by previous research, and their relationships for successful implementations. Design/methodology/approach We extracted fifteen servitization barriers from the literature and a focus group study. Then we presented their relationship with sustainable dimensions such as human, business, economic and market, and environment. Using the selected experts’ assessments, we implemented Fuzzy-TISM to analyze the causal relationship among the barriers. We also implemented Fuzzy-MICMAC analysis to categorize the barriers. Findings The findings presented that lack of understanding of customer, cultural problems, high market risk, financial constraints, lack of environmental awareness, and lack of environmental regulations are independent variables and play a very critical role in the success of sustainable-servitization implementations. Finally, we proposed several managerial insights and a structured hierarchical model that can be used as a guide by practitioners to develop a better strategy for their implementations. Originality/value To the best of our knowledge, a detailed examination of the barriers and challenges in the triple bottom line approach is already missing at the desired level. From this point of view, this study is the first research that determines barriers of servitization based on the triple-bottom-line model with a sustainability perspective

    In the literature, mostly, under the heading of maritime logistics, classical sea transportation issues have been studied. In actual fact, with broader scope, maritime logistics is a different field under the logistics theme and sea transportation is just one of the functions that must be carried effectively and in an integrated manner with other logistics functions. This chapter focuses on the maritime logistics functions which were selected by the authors in accordance with the gap in the literature, namely transportation and traffic management, inventory management, demand forecasting, material handling, and packaging and labelling. In addition to the maritime logistics functions; port logistics, green maritime logistics and decision problems in maritime logistics topics are handled deeply with the aim of completing the skeleton of the maritime logistics concept by which an understanding of the clear definition of maritime logistics can be achieved. The practitioners can gain more integrated and holistic viewpoint about maritime logistics with the help of this chapter.</jats:p

    A conceptual framework for a new service model: digital servitization with an Industrial 4.0 perspective

    PurposeRecently, increasing costs and competitive pressure have accelerated the search for different business models in both the production and service sectors. The rapid development of technology has increased the importance of digitalization, especially in developing new and different strategies. The digital service business model has also become a new business model that companies have recently preferred. In addition to its many advantages, it is a business model in which different barriers arise in practice. When we look at the literature, there are very few studies, especially on digital servitization. The purpose of this study is to integrate the concept of digital servitization with the Industry 4.0 perspective.Design/methodology/approachTo achieve this aim, first, the authors identify various challenges and barriers in front of digital servitization based on the Industry 4.0 perspective. Later, they determine the relative importance of these barriers critical to the success of digital servitization. Lastly, one multi-criteria decision-making method, the fuzzy decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory method, is used to analyze the cause-and-effect relationship between each barrier based on the Industry 4.0 perspectiveFindingsBased on the results, the most crucial cause-and-effect barriers are insufficient infrastructure/lack of IT infrastructure and high implementation, respectively. Therefore, this study offers the reader the possible barriers to sustainable digital servitization with Industry 4.0 perspective implementations and comprehensive solutions for these barriers. In addition, this study draws a roadmap for disseminating digital service applications.Originality/valueThere is no study, to the best of the authors' knowledge, about determining barriers and problems with merging digital servitization with the Industry 4.0 perspective.
