    After Her Death

    No full text
As four young women cope with, for many, everyday situations from teenage pregnancy and eating disorders to their sexuality and homophobia, their dead mothers look on either aghast or with great affection, unknown to their earth-bound daughters. Written by Catrina McHugh and directed by Fiona Macpherson, this was the first production of the Open Clasp theatre company. The play was toured by Open Clasp in 1999 and again in 2002

    A Twist of Lemon

    No full text
Butch Jackie wants a holiday, so four women set off to the island of Lesbos. However a lost suitcase, along with a white knuckle ride on the resort's banana boat not only put one woman's back out but results in the women having a major fallout. Set against the backdrop of adversity 'A Twist of Lemon' highlights the courage, strength and humility of young lesbians and lesbians living in the North East and gives audiences a rare opportunity to witness the stories of a minority that, in the main part, are invisible to the rest of society. Like heterosexuals they fall in and out of love, experience the trials and tribulations of bringing up children, but their lives bear the imprint of a world where they, and their children, experience prejudice and discrimination. It takes time for change, but how slow does this clock have to tick? Open Clasp say it's time to wind it up

    Tonic

Open Clasp’s Mind The Gap project addressed women’s attitudes to mental well-being, mental ill-health and the issues that surround it. Open Clasp spent 18 months running courses of intensive drama workshops with 127 women from 10 community groups. Each group spent time building a character, and ended by looking at where they would like their character to be in 5 years time, and what obstacles lay in her path that could prevent her from living a positive and healthy life. The characters, life stories and issues developed in these workshops went on to become the script for Tonic. Set during the World Cup Tonic tells the story of four women trying, unsuccessfully, to get away from the football! Zoe heads off to a caravan estate for a break with her friend Lorraine and colleagues Suzy and Nina. But her little sister, Josie, turns up, having left her violent partner, and bringing a suitcase full of money and chaos in her wake. Like all Open Clasp productions Tonic is a comedy vehicle for serious issues. Zoe and Josie are survivors of childhood domestic and sexual abuse, Suzy suffers from OCD, Nina is lurching unprepared through the menopause, and Lorraine is banned from her own home whenever her girlfriend's children have their friends around. This is the backdrop to the whole story, and we see how the characters deal with these issues as well as everything else life throws at them. Scripted by Catrina McHugh and directed by Fiona MacPherson, Tonic toured a wide range of community and professional venues in the North East during February and March 2007

Enhancing the World Bank’s Energy Access Investments through Energy Efficiency

    No full text
The World Bank (WB) has for many years been financing and conducting work to increase access to modern energy services among energy poor communities, and its efforts vary greatly from project to project, based largely on client-country context, requests, and needs. In mid-2014, CLASP evaluated a selection of recent WB EA projects to identify opportunities to expand and more effectively integrate and operationalize EE, a process and set of principles we refer to as EA+EE

Improvement of technology of clasp dentures manufacture

    No full text
The aim of the article is to improve the technology of clasp dentures manufacture. Material and Methods. Orthopaedic treatment of 27 patients was conducted using advanced technology of manufacturing clasp dentures at the Department of Prosthetic Dentistry at Samara State Medical University. Results. Conducting the orthopaedic treatment a method of obtaining an impression in prosthetics on implants and teeth, a method of manufacturing clasp denture with locking fasteners and a method of manufacturing a clasp denture with a questionable prognosis of bearing tooth were used. Conclusion. Using the advanced technology of manufacturing clasp denture has solved the problem with unreliable periodontal tissues, loss of a removable part of clasp denture and allowed to improve the quality of obtaining impression from bearing teeth.</p

Clasp knife in the gut: a case report

    No full text
Abstract Background A wide range of foreign bodies has been retrieved from the gut and reported. The presentation may be in the form of complications like intestinal obstruction, perforation and formation of abscesses etc but there is no case report of a half open clasp knife being retrieved from the ileum, the patient having thrived, in spite of its presence for a period of eight months. Case presentation A 30-year-old administrative clerk had undergone emergency abdominal surgery eight months previously under mysterious circumstances at a remote district hospital and had recovered completely. Later the blade of a knife was accidentally detected when an X ray of the abdomen was done during a routine follow-up visit to his family physician. Surgery revealed a clasp knife in the ileum, which was retrieved. The presence of an entero-enteric fistula short circuiting the loop was the secret of his earlier survival. Conclusions To the best of our information this is the first case-report of a clasp knife in the gut and of the patient thriving in spite of its presence. We report here the dramatic sequence of events.</p

Common LISP as Simulation Program (CLASP) of Electronic Circuits

    No full text
In this paper, an unusual and efficient usage of functional programming language Common LISP as simulation program (CLASP) for electronic circuits is proposed. The principle of automatic self-modifying program has enabled complete freedom in definition of methods for optimized solution of any problem and speeding up the entire process of simulation. A new approach to program structure in electronic circuit simulator CLASP is described. The definition of simple electronic devices as resistor, voltage source and diode is given all together with description of their memory management in program CLASP. Other circuit elements can be easily defined in the same way. Simulation methods for electronic circuits as linear and nonlinear direct current analysis (DC) are suggested. A comparison of performances of two different linear solvers (an original and the standard GNU GSL) for circuit equations is demonstrated by an algorithm for automatic generation of huge circuits
