Il futuro del disegno con il BIM per Ingegneri e Architetti / The Future of Drawing with BIM for Engineers and Architects
The future of drawing with BIM for engineers and architects is a book recounting years of theoretical and applied research on the method that is revolutionizing data management and communication in the fragmented world of the construction industry: Building Information Modelling.
The search for a world, so far still imaginary, where all information related to a building’s life cycle can be introduced in a model only once and can then be shared simply and without losses among engineers, architects, facility managers and so on, is certainly a hot topic continuously in progress.
With an initial general overview on BIM and interoperability, the book highlights the possible advantages of BIM for architects and engineers in comparison with the better known CAD tools (chapter 01). The book continues with an assessment of the international state of the art (chapter 02) and twelve case studies describing in detail advantages and problems of BIM in real utilization, suggesting possible solutions (chapter 03). The need for shared standards in support of a building sector wishing to innovate with BIM is underlined in chapter 04, proposing the results of an international project (SEEMPubS) where interoperability and middleware are the keywords. The book ends (chapter 05) with the proceedings from the workshop BIM: how is it changing the construction industry? organized at Politecnico di Torino to present the InnovANCE research project and to discuss the future of BIM in Italy.
Since the research issue is under continuous and fast evolution, the book does not draw conclusions but leaves the update of results open through the use of QR Codes placed in key points of the different chapters. In the future these will allow the author to communicate to the readers the updates of the presented projects.
The book is meant for lecturers interested in proposing new study issues; Engineering and Architecture students fond of digital technology; researchers, professionals and operators in many construction sectors willing to innovate their way of working; stakeholders that in BIM and interoperability may find opportunities for process optimization
