Waste management and recycling plant, Saje Dumpsite, Abeokuta: Architectural solution to sustainable energy

The result of such efforts led to industrialization of Ogun State especially its capital, Abeokuta, in fulfillment of the Five Cardinal Programmes of "Mission to Rebuild" Ogun State and in compliance with the Federal Government's approval to generate power for all tiers of the government. This architectural thesis came about as an outshoot of such project.
The research approach was via interview and site visitation with the Saje dumpsite coordinator and secondary data collection on waste-to-energy technologies in and outside Nigeria. The Ministry of Environment Abeokuta, Ogun state was scouted afetr due to Saje dumpsite being the only and largest dumpsite in Abeokuta. Nonetheless, documented information about the dumpsite could be counted as little to none despite it was previously a quarry site or motive could be based on the sensitivity of the data must not research the eyes and ears of the public. An interview with the coordinator who had supervised Saje dumpsite for 12 years (under the assistance and permission of the Ministry of Environment Abeokuta) was viewed as the quick fix to such this case as this case as the most the reseonable and weighted source of knowledge
Influence of enrichment triad and acceleration programmes on the academic achievement of gifted children in a selected school in Ibadan, Oyo State
The gifted and Talented students are capable of developing opportunities that are not ordinarily provided through regular or traditional instructional programmes. This is because old stereotype and conventional instructional strategies may not be enough to give the needed stimulation. Thus, the researcher is interested in investigating the influence of enrichment Triad and acceleration programmes on the academic achievement of gifted children in a selected school in Ibadan, Oyo – State. The study used a pre-test, post-test control group quasi experimental design, with 24 participants from JSS II. A multistage sampling technique was utilized for the selection of the subjects, who were randomly assigned into the experimental and control groups. Two validated and reliable research instruments namely; slosson's intelligence Test (r = 0.97) and Teacher made Achievement test (r = 0.98) were used. The finding revealed that there was a significant treatment effect on participants' exposed to acceleration with a mean score of (X=48.13) and those exposed to enrichment triad with a mean score of (X=48.8). The control group has the least post-test means score of (X=22.1). Thus, groups, A & B performed significantly than the control group, which provide the justification for the need of enrichment Triad and Acceleration programme for the gifted children. Since the findings have revealed that the two models can facilitate gifted students, it is therefore recommended that both the regular and special educators should used these models in facilitating the academic achievement of gifted students. Identifying Research Priorities to Promote the Well-Being of Family Caregivers of Canadians with Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities: A Pilot Delphi Study
Current programming and resources aimed at supporting the well-being of family caregivers often fail to address considerations unique to those caring for people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (IDDs). As a result, many caregivers of people with IDD feel isolated, stressed, and burnt out. A targeted research agenda informed by key stakeholders is needed and would allow research teams to coordinate resources, talents, and efforts to progress family caregiver well-being research in this area quickly and effectively. To address this aim, this pilot study used a Delphi design based on 2 rounds of questionnaires. In round 1, 19 stakeholders (18 females, 1 male), including 12 family caregivers, 3 rehabilitation providers, 2 researchers, and 2 organizational representatives, identified broad areas for caregiver well-being research. After collating the responses from round 1, stakeholders were asked to rank whether each area was considered a research priority in round 2. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and conventional content analysis. Eighteen stakeholders completed the round 2 survey (1 caregiver did not complete the round 2 survey), after which a consensus was reached. Stakeholders identified nine broad priorities, including system-level programs and services, models of care, health promotion, social inclusion, equity and diversity, capacity building, care planning along the lifespan, and balancing formal and natural community-based supports. Although preliminary in nature, the research priorities generated using an inclusive and systematic process may inform future efforts to promote the well-being of caregivers of Canadians with IDD
CHEMICAL ASSESSMENT OF LIMESTONE DEPOSIT IN PARTS OF IJEBU MEMBER, DAHOMEY BASIN, NIGERIA
Fifteen rock samples were collected from some part of the Ijebu member of Ewekoro formation around Odogbolu, Southwestern Nigeria. These samples were analyzed for their elemental oxides and petrography to determine their depositional environment and rock provenance. The analysis was carried out using appropriate methods. The total organic carbon value ranges between 0.13% and 0.28% as against the threshold value of 0.30% for a good source of carbonate rock. The geochemical analysis indicates that the CaO percentage ranges from 19.12 to 52.69%, while the MgO percentage is generally low, ranging from 0.13 to 2.60%. This implies little or no dolomitization, and it indicates a good raw material for cement production. The SiO2 percentage ranges from 5.61 to 37.03%. These could have resulted from the slight incursion of the underlying Abeokuta formation, but studies revealed that it reduces as it grades towards the upper layers. The Fe2O3 percentages were relatively low. Further studies revealed that the limestones contain some fossils including foraminifera, gastropods, mollusks, echinoids and algae which have been recrystallized, obliterated and refilled by calcite during the diagenetic process
Haematology, Serum Analysis, Cholesterol Status, and Physico-chemical Evaluation of Rabbit Fed Africa Sunflower Leaf Meal in their Diet.
Inclusion of forages as an alternative feed, to reduce cost of feed and improve rabbit health and production, is the focus. A ten weeks of feeding trials was conducted to investigate the effects of African Sunflower Leaf Meal (ASLM) inclusion on weaners rabbit on hematology, serum analysis, cholesterol status and physico-chemical evaluation. 48 (weaners) White New Zealand male rabbit at six weeks of 9.5 to 1kg were allotted to four dietary treatments. Treatment 1: Tridax procumbens, Treatment 2 :100% Concentrates, Treatment 3: 50% ASLM + 50% concentrates, Treatment 4: 100% ASLM with twelve rabbits per treatment in a completely randomize design (CRD). Hematological indices were significant highest (P>0.05) in T4 with PCV (32.01%), RBC (6.15 x 106ul), WBC (8.950 x103Ul), lymphocyte (71.33%), platelet (109.7) than followed by T1, T2 and T3. Serum metabolites had significant highest valves in T4 for all parameters measured except for Alb (g/dl) than other treatments. When the dietary treatment on cholesterol was evaluated, T2 had the highest significant values for LDL (7.72 mg/dl) and HDL (60.43 mg/dl), followed by T1 with LDL (6.03 mg/dl) and HDL (59.12 mg/dl) while T4 had the least significant values of LDL (5.14 mg/dl) and (HDL 51.00 mg/dl). T4 had the highest (P>0.05) value for water holding capacity (80) followed by T1 (39) while T3 had the least (26). T3 and T4 were rated higher for color or appearance by the panelists than T1 and T2. Proximate, Physico-Chemical and Palatability Analysis of Grilled and Boiled Meat from Broilers Fed Varying Levels of Honey in Their Diet during Dry Season
Suppressing heat stress using honey as a natural substance instead of synthetic vitamin A and C in poultry industry during dry season is the focus of this study. Poultry production is one of the fastest producing food for human consumption and most thriving section of livestock industry. Heat stress causes less eating of food, rise in body temperature which could affect digestion, respiration rate rises and evaporation of water from the lungs. 156 day old broiler chick (Gallus domesticus) were distributed into four treatments and three replicates they were fed with compounded feed with 0ml, 10mls, 20mls, and 30mls, of honey inclusion per Kg of feed representing as T1, T2, T3 and T4 respectively. After 8 weeks 5 birds per treatments were selected and slaughtered, cut primally, boiled and grilled at 100 0C, at 20minutes. Samples were evaluated for proximate, physico-chemical and palatability analysis in a completely randomized design. Results showed that the fresh meat had the highest significant moisture content, followed by the boiled samples and then the grilled samples. The grilled samples had the highest value (P<0.05) for crude protein, ether extract and ash content for all the treatments than boiled or fresh samples for proximate analysis. T2 appears best having lowest values for moisture and ether extract and highest values for ash and protein content. Physico – chemical properties revealed that T1 had the highest (P<0.05) value for cold shortening, thermal shortening, cooking loss and water holding capacity than T2, T3 and T4. T2 was rated highest for the boiled and grilled samples having highest values in flavor, juiceness and texture.T2 with 10 mls inclusion of honey perform best in proximate, physicochemical, and palatability status for both boiled and grilled broiler meat. A scoping review assessing the usability of digital health technologies targeting people with multiple sclerosis
Abstract Digital health technologies (DHTs) have become progressively more integrated into the healthcare of people with multiple sclerosis (MS). To ensure that DHTs meet end-users’ needs, it is essential to assess their usability. The objective of this study was to determine how DHTs targeting people with MS incorporate usability characteristics into their design and/or evaluation. We conducted a scoping review of DHT studies in MS published from 2010 to the present using PubMed, Web of Science, OVID Medline, CINAHL, Embase, and medRxiv. Covidence was used to facilitate the review. We included articles that focused on people with MS and/or their caregivers, studied DHTs (including mhealth, telehealth, and wearables), and employed quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods designs. Thirty-two studies that assessed usability were included, which represents a minority of studies (26%) that assessed DHTs in MS. The most common DHT was mobile applications (n = 23, 70%). Overall, studies were highly heterogeneous with respect to what usability principles were considered and how usability was assessed. These findings suggest that there is a major gap in the application of standardized usability assessments to DHTs in MS. Improvements in the standardization of usability assessments will have implications for the future of digital health care for people with MS
PILOT ASSESSMENT OF CORROSION AND ENCRUSTATION POTENTIALS ON GROUND WATER WELL MANAGEMENT IN PARTS OF LAGOS STATE SOUTHWESTERN NIGERIA
Reports have shown that a series of boreholes had either failed, collapsed, or abandoned due to casing pipe damages and poor yield in parts of Lagos state and its environs. This have possibly resulted from the poor-quality underground water quality within these areas which could either be from extraneous contaminant or source rock within the area. Consequently, the preliminary study of this underground water was conducted to ascertain possible causes and amelioration processes. To this end, fifteen borehole samples were collected for various laboratory analysis to determine their physical and chemical parameters in order to assess the level of corrosion and encrustation induced by groundwater on borehole casing and screens pipes (mild steel pipes) that are mostly used for deep boreholes within the study area by means of Corrosion and Encrustation Index Parameter (CEIP) and other cognate parameters. The results of the analysis show that the pH value ranges from 5.2 to 6.9, Fe (0.43-2.80mg/l), Mn (0.1-1.2mg/l), TDS (86.0-392.0mg/l), DO (2.1-2.6mg/l) Chloride (Cl (6.8-53.0mg/l), temperature (25-30oC) and Total hardness (22.0-226.0) respectively. Upon correlating the results with the Corrosion and Encrustation Index Parameter as well as the World Health Organization (WHO, 20O6) it was found out that the pH values, dissolved oxygen, manganese iron, and temperature might have contributed to the corrosion and encrustation activities on the pipe. It is recommended that materials such as UPVC high pressured polyvinyl chloride materials, high corrosion-resistant stainless pipes and corrosion-resistant paints can be used as an alternative to ameliorate the problems of corrosion and encrustation for the use of the groundwater drilling operator
