No full textData is a critical asset in today's world. When multiple actors are involved, ensuring that data is accessible only to authorized parties and protecting it against theft present significant challenges. A potential solution to these issues is creating data spaces that interconnect clusters managed by different actors. The latter can securely exchange data under specific constraints and terminate connections when needed. This paper aims to show how infrastructure-level data spaces, which support both access to data, and processing of it, can facilitate secure data exchange and limit data theft. Furthermore, we investigate how data sovereignty can be maintained through cluster data exchange, which is crucial in an era where data is increasingly regulated and controlled. Additionally, we explore how offloading applications from the data consumer into the data producer cluster can match data gravity patterns, improving overall system efficiency. Finally, this paper presents the potential integration of the proposed solution within the framework of IDSA and Gaia-X, serving as promising option for implementing their proposed functionalities
The CONCERTI project: from Magliano Alpi’s energy community to an innovative integrated inter-municipal energy sharing paradigm
No full textEnergy communities, envisioned by the European regulatory framework, are innovative forms of production, consumption and sharing of locally produced renewable energy. Italy began its development of renewable energy communities in 2019, with experimental transitional legislation, and only in early 2024 did the overall framework settle down. As the regulatory framework has evolved, energy communities have taken on different potentials than originally envisioned, both in terms of economics and spatial extent. In this continually evolving context, the CONCERTI project, an ambitious initiative aimed at enhancing the concept of energy communities at the market area level, highlights the shift in the integration of energy communities into a more extended territorial system, toward new frontiers of distributed production and consumption, including with the introduction of aggregating entities capable of having members of energy communities participate in electricity and service markets
