Proteomics to improve serodiagnosis of Brucellosis

    No full text
Brucellosis still causes a public health impact and economic losses in animal husbandry in Mediterranean area also if it is eradicated in most of developed Countries. The design of adequate strategies for preventing animal brucellosis and consequently human disease requires in-depth knowledge of different strains that are circulating. Moreover, the occurrence of false positive reactions in the serological tests available currently reduces their specificity [1]. Furthermore, the mass vaccination policy using Rev.1 vaccine, in many endemic areas of the Mediterranean with the aim of controlling/reducing disease prevalence in small ruminants, interfere with serological diagnosis of the disease. Since the 'perfect antigen' has not been developed yet, it is useful to make comparative proteomics characterization of of Brucella spp to set to obtained proteins that could permit to develop rapid diagnostic test. We analyze three strains of Brucella melitensis coming from library of National Reference Laboratory of Brucellosis (IZSAM- Teramo ITALY) in three technical replicates for each strain used a combined methods of bead beating and solubilization [2]. After 2D electrophoresis, image analysis was performed with Progenesis same spots and proteins were analyzed with MALDI-TOF/MS. Combined methods of extraction physical plus chemical were able to resolve huge numbers of proteins that can be used to set up immune-proteomics analysis to improve and complete serodiagnosis of brucellosis Work supported by BrucMedNet- ARIMNet2 - Coordination of Agricultural Research in the Mediterranean-Grant agreement no. 618127. * Corresponding author: Paola Roncada, PhD. This paper reviews a research on the resistance of women against Franco's regime, undertaken by the author almost twenty years ago. New methodological tools concerning oralhistory and interpretation keys of gender history, contribute to analyse interrelationships suchas memory-identity-autorepresentation, including dialogic relations among testimonies andthe context, as well as between the interviewer and the interviewed women. Briefly, a “revisitation”that intends to identify lines of research allowing to surpass the solidarity phase for morecomplex and problem oriented approaches to women's resistance.

    No full text
This article aims to analyse the representation of sexuality in the theatre of the post-Francoist era in Spain. After a general introduction to the topic based on articles by di Febo (1979), Castejón Bolea (2018), Morcillo (2010) and Santos Sánchez (2013 y 2016), we will compare the role of sexuality during the final years of Francoism and the subsequent phenomenon called “destape”. Furthermore, we will consider these differences in the work Los ochenta son nuestros (1988) by Ana Diosdado. To better appreciate the changes in this theatre play, we decided to compare it with another play by the same author: Olvida los tambores (1970). The primary goal is to examine how sexuality is portrayed in Los ochenta son nuestros and, secondly, to discern the differences in the representation of Olvida los tambores in Diosdado’s theatre during and after Francoism. We will observe that, despite the different plots, we can find compelling points in the representation of this topic, particularly regarding perspectives and generational differences: in this case specifically between the generation that lived its teenagehood and youth during the Francoist era and the one that lived these stages of life after the regime.

    No full text
The Somni is a late fourteenth century brief narration, written by the Catalan author Frances Alegre. The writer and protagonist, in an allegoric dream, finds himself in an unreal dimension, particularly in front of the Court of Love to press charges against his cruel beloved woman. Among the summoned up witnesses one may recognize some of the ancient heroes belonging to the Classical mythology: Phoebus, Aeneas, Achilles and Demophon. They must pass their judgment to the accused. Alegre manages to transpose, within his allegorical vision, several mythical elements, which can also be found in the very setting of the narration: in fact tapestry and floor are decorated with the achievements and the love adventures of the ancient brave heroes.

    No full text
    (1) When Dante invokes Apollo saying “Entra nel petto mio, e spira tue | sì come quando Marsïa traesti | de la vagina de le membra sue” (Par. 1.19-21) he most probably understands Ovid’s model (Met. 6.384-5) as meaning that not only Marsyas, but Apollo too played a reed pipe during their contest: “spira tue” (“inspire”) literally means “breathe” and refers to Apollo “breathing into the reed pipe.” Other passages might have suggested to Dante that Apollo too played a reed during his contest with Marsyas; cf. Liv. 38.13, Plin. NH 5.106. A version which explicitly presents Apollo as playing the reed is attested at Agathias, Hist. 4.23.4, and according to Iacomo della Lana, author of the first commentary to the Paradiso (1324-8), both Marsyas and Apollo/Febo would have played a wind instrument in their contest. (2) The reference to Marsyas and Apollo at Par. 1.19-21 is meant to contrast Dante’s humility in his asking God for help with the foolish arrogance of those who presume of singing of sublime matters trusting entirely in their human capacities. This is the correct interpretation of the terzina. There is also another widespread interpretation, which goes back ultimately to an observation of S. T. Coleridge, reported with approval by J. S. Carroll (1907): Marsyas would be a “figura Dantis,” representing the liberation from the body by means of divine inspiration; so e.g. E. Wind, S. Pasquazi, K. Brownlee, P. S. Hawkins, P. Rigo, J. Levenstein, R. Hollander, N. Fosca, among many others. In fact, this is either an overinterpretation, or a mere misunderstanding of Dante’s text
