    Disseminating Cochrane evidence to the public health workforce via author-led webinars

    <b>Title</b>\ud \ud - Disseminating Cochrane evidence to the public health workforce via author-led webinars\ud \ud <b>Background</b> \ud \ud - <u><a href="http://www.healthevidence.org/">Health Evidence™</a></u> is a free searchable repository, of 4,500+ quality-appraised public health relevant reviews, including nearly 700 Cochrane reviews. Author-led webinars is one knowledge translation strategy to disseminate the findings of Cochrane reviews.\ud \ud <b>Objectives</b>\ud \ud - (i) Disseminate the findings of Cochrane reviews via webinars\ud \ud - (ii) Evaluate the impact of Cochrane author-led webinars \ud \ud <b>Methods</b>\ud \ud - Webinars are 60-90 minutes in length and include: an overview of the principles of evidence-informed decision making (15mins), a presentation of the findings by the review author (30mins), and a Q&A period (30mins). Webconferencing software monitors participant registration, attendance, engagement, poll responses, and questions. Standard polling questions are asked throughout each session to assess familiarity with and use of systematic reviews, as well as familiarity and agreement with session-specific review findings.\ud \ud <b>Results</b>\ud \ud - Since January 2015 Health Evidence™ has hosted six Cochrane author-led webinars. Webinar participants include: nurses, health promoters, physicians, dietitians, and knowledge brokers. On average, participants in each session were attentive and engaged 68.8% of the time. Google Analytics reflect an average 572% increase in users accessing the Cochrane review featured in each webinar on the day of the session compared to average daily access the month prior. On average, each session attracted 177 registrants, of which approximately half joined on the session date. Poll response data reveal 59.6% attendees use systematic reviews to inform their practice. Data collected pre/post on participant’s knowledge of the effectiveness of an intervention, suggest that webinars are an effective way to influence participant’s knowledge about intervention effectiveness (participant knowledge improved 10-31.8%, measured via pre/post poll questions). During the Q&A period, attendees submitted 5-12 questions per session.\ud Conclusion: Webinars are an interactive and effective mechanism for promoting public health relevant Cochrane evidence to decision makers. Data from webinars highlight a high level of interest and engagement with Cochrane author-led sessions

    Identifying Author Fingerprints in Texts via Graph Neural Networks

    The world is generating more and more network data in many different areas (e.g., sensor networks, social networks and even text). A unique characteristic of these data is the coupling between data values and underlying irregular structure on which these values are defined. Thus, researchers developed Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) to use deep learning approaches on these irregular network data. GNNs developers tried to replicate the recent success of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and developed its graph counterpart Graph Convolutional Neural Network (GCNN) and more different variations of GNNs (e.g. EdgeNet). However, all these architectures are relatively young, and the impact of different parameters to classification result is not well researched compared to regular neural network architectures. To address this issue, we propose to use authorship attribution problem to research the impact of different architectures and their variations to classification accuracy and how GNNs can be used to improve on authorship attribution task compared to the baseline architectures. Explicitly, we define the dataset which is going to be used throughout the experiments and the method to convert text excerpts of authors into the network that can be classified with GNNs (called WAN). WAN is as a network that captures unique author fingerprint. We also define the set of GNN architectures (and different combinations and variations of them), baseline architecture (SVM) and experiments that are used with those architectures. This experiment setting allows us to compare different GNN architectures among themselves and the baseline architecture. Also, we define a method to reduce the dimensions of author fingerprints (WANs) and use these sparse author fingerprints for the same experiments with the same architectures. Numerical results show the improvement over the baseline architectures in nearly all defined experiments. Also, we found that more complex GNN architectures (e.g. EdgeNets) are superior to shallower architectures with more laborious experiments (e.g. classification by gender). More complex architectures also require hyperparameter re-tuning in order to achieve optimal results. Furthermore, experiments with sparse author fingerprints showed that we could achieve comparable results to standard fingerprints with faster training times and significantly reduced dimensions. GNN architectures used with sparse author fingerprints were usually superior to baseline architectures

    Robust energy transfer mechanism via precession resonance in nonlinear turbulent wave systems

    A robust energy transfer mechanism is found in nonlinear wave systems, which favours transfers towards modes interacting via triads with nonzero frequency mismatch, applicable in meteorology, nonlinear optics and plasma wave turbulence. We emphasise the concepts of truly dynamical degrees of freedom and triad precession. Transfer efficiency is maximal when the triads' precession frequencies resonate with the system's nonlinear frequencies, leading to a collective state of synchronised triads with strong turbulent cascades at intermediate nonlinearity. Numerical simulations confirm analytical predictions
