Programa de P?s-Gradua??o em Sa?de, Sociedade e Ambiente, Universidade Federal dos Vales do Jequitinhonha e Mucuri, 2016.It is known that obstetric violence is characterized by the appropriation of the body in the reproductive processes of women by health professionals. This type of violation to the female body occurs through dehumanized treatment, abuse of medicalization and pathologization of natural processes, which causes loss of autonomy and ability to decide freely on their bodies and sexuality. In addition, there is a negative impact on women's quality of life. Thus, this dissertation aims to evaluate the existence of obstetric violence among women attended by the Women Thousand Program, in the municipality of Almenara, Vale do Jequitinhonha, Minas Gerais. In this sense, adequate knowledge of childbirth planning is a key tool in deciding which type to choose. In this research, we attempted to present the best or least risky ways of delivery, through interviews with twenty pregnant women who spoke about how they felt and were treated by the health service, specifically obstetric nursing, and also by means of a review Bibliographical, when using authors who studied the theme defended. The study is transversal, with quantitative and qualitative techniques. Aiming at the proposal of the interdisciplinary professional master's degree course, we sought to align with the real problems encountered by the author in the day-today practice of care for pregnant women, in order to humanize the care provided by health professionals. Given the data collected in the research, the need for an informative booklet to be maintained at the stations and hospitals and also distributed among pregnant women remained clear. It is also known that every woman has the right to prenatal quality and this is aimed at the health and well-being of her and the baby. However, there are still records of cases of maltreatment and omission, including at the time of delivery. With the interpretation of data collected, it was found that there is a lack of information that should be provided to pregnant women. It was also possible to verify that cesarean section has been used as a programming practice for the mother, regardless of the need or even what would be best for the child. Many women have opted for this type of delivery without the health posts or hospitals showing them the risks from this practice. The parturients interviewed, in addition to not knowing the basic information about humanized obstetrics, did not know their rights on the subject. But even more serious, some were denied to them, such as having an escort. The most effective way to combat obstetric violence is to awaken the population to the existence of this reality. In this way, access to information contributes to the empowerment of women, who may be victims of the fear of denouncing those who have committed violence. The humanization of childbirth is directly related to the work of health professionals who, through collective, interdisciplinary action and with respect to maternal physiology, seeks to minimize unnecessary interventions through the social and cultural recognition of childbirth And the emotional support offered to the woman and her family in order to promote the creation of bonds in the mother-baby relationship.

Many children speak German as a second language in German schools. Research (e. g., Stanat et al. 2022) points to the fact that there is a huge inequality between these children and children who speak German at home in terms of the achievement of learning goals. Educational policy debates about inclusive learning environments tend not to consider the specific needs and resources multilingual children bring to learn in a German speaking classroom and therefore additional resources are only allocated for children with almost no knowledge of German. In this paper, the author highlights the importance of recognising the needs of multilingual children in inclusive learning environments to grant resources for these children and to focus on their learning. Using literacy acquisition as an example, the author describes different ways of supporting multilingual children in the classroom.

Enchanted reflections : transforming through Beauty and the Beast’s Looking Glass

This thesis explores the reflective relationships that inspire transformation in the fairy tale Beauty and the Beast. Critics tend to reify the fairy tale, its characters, and its evolution, maintaining that the fairy tale is formulaic and its characters archetypal. These arguments suggest that the fairy tale only imitates what has come before and deny the fairy tale the possibility of dynamic meaning. I argue instead that Beauty and the Beast is a magic mirror that reflects its reader‟s psyche, resulting both in the tale‟s changing meaning and a transformed reader. The reflective relationship between Beauty and Beast, which enables physical transformation and emotional growth, emblematizes this reader-tale bond. My analysis of the myth of Cupid and Psyche, the French tales of Mmes de Beaumont and de Villeneuve, the Brothers Grimm folklore, and Disney‟s animated film describes how and why these variants change. New variants are products of the past tales, contemporary problems, and the reader‟s perception. The reflective relationship between Beauty and Beast extends to the symbiotic exchange between the reader and the tale, the author and his creation, and the society and its critique. By understanding these relationships, we embrace this tale‟s meaning as dynamic instead of dated

In this article, a linguist describes her attitude and her approach to integrating computer-aided methods in the field of discourse linguistics. Based on the description of her own research biography, a tension between fascination and scepticism towards computational approaches is outlined as a continuum between sensitive (interested, fascinated) – resilient (involving, integrating) – resistant (rejecting in certain studies due to the research question and the interest in knowledge). The author reflects on her background as a first generation academic, tracing the path of her studies and her doctorate, which was characterised by two parallel universes: one in which the machine has a decisive influence on the results oft he analysis, and one in which the human (linguist) is able to analyse in a more differentiated way than the machine. The latter is due to the high complexity of the subject matter of context-sensitive questions. In her role as junior research group leader, the author\u27s aim over the last six years has been to bring the two universes closer together. The role that computer-aided text analysis will play in her habilitation project is still undecided and will depend on the outcome of various pilot studies

Identity and consumption practices of Northamptonshire Caribbeans c.1955-1989

    No full text
The objective of this thesis is to delineate and analyse Northamptonshire Caribbeans' consumption c.1955-1989. Author-collected and other oral histories alongside complementary primary and secondary references dovetail to unearth and analyse aspects of Post-War Caribbean consumption in a British provincial location that have been significantly unexplored previously. Central to the argument is the contention that identity is fundamentally significant in comprehending and analysing Northamptonshire Caribbeans' consumption. Various conceptualisations of identity facilitated development of consumer materialisations and aspirations. This thesis explores how multiple forms of identity as Caribbean, Black and British people were significant in shaping local Caribbeans' consumption. The succeeding pages address and analyse how these multiple identities influenced consumption and how provincial consumer behaviour was shaped by Caribbeans' relative co-ethnic isolation in Northamptonshire. Chapter 3 delineates and analyses consumer practices and practicalities of Northamptonshire Caribbeans. Integral within these consumer practices and practicalities are changes in consumption over time, intergenerational differences in consumption, as well as aspects of consumption that could be considered 'typical' and/or 'atypical' Northamptonshire Caribbean consumption; all of which are incorporated within this chapter. Chapter 4 connects identity and consumption through enhancing understanding of Northamptonshire Caribbeans' consumer networks. These networks interacted with the combination of identities local Caribbeans psychologically felt part of within various Caribbean, Black and British permutations. Furthermore, such identities varied more widely amongst the younger generation than their co-ethnic elders, a concept which is also addressed. Education and cultural currency are two novel strands through which to analyse connections between consumption and identity. The final two chapters deploy these concepts in an innovative manner creating and developing greater understanding of Northamptonshire Caribbeans' consumption. Chapter 5 expounds on the concept that education can be used as consumption whilst shaping future consumer behaviour, both ideas significantly under-explored previously. Chapter 6 introduces the theory of cultural currency, the idea that aspects of culture have finite, but changing, values and must be shared to have value similar to monetary currencies having exchange values for other monetary currencies. This chapter demonstrates how Northamptonshire Caribbeans shared aspects of Caribbean culture as cultural currency, fostering co-ethnic strength whilst gaining inter-ethnic respect for Caribbeans. Through comprehending Caribbean identity, correlations between empirical and social history, local consumption, as well as educational and cultural circumstances that stimulated and inspired Northamptonshire Caribbeans, this thesis distinctively illuminates how local Caribbeans' consumption interacted with various permutations of Afro-Caribbean, Black and/or British identities whilst representing idiosyncratic local nodes within these larger amalgamations

Kohäsive Mittel in Texten gehörloser Lernender: Gebärdentexte als Ressource für den Schreibunterricht

The ability to read and write is a crucial skill for active participation in a literate society. However, for deaf or hard-of-hearing (DHH) sign language users, writing can be challenging for two main reasons. First, signers must convert their message from their L1 (sign language), a visual language without a written form, into a written modality. Secondly, they must use a code that is based on a spoken language, which is often their second language (L2). This essay focuses on the challenges faced by DHH learners of written German, as well as the potential of a bimodal bilingual approach in both research and teaching. The author draws on a bimodal dataset consisting of signed and written texts by DHH students to discuss and compare modality-specific cohesive strategies. It will be shown that, compared to written texts, cohesion in signed texts can also be established non-manually. With regard to a bimodal school setting it will be suggested that a contrastive approach might be beneficial.

    No full text
We start with describing our idea of multimodality. Multimodality is due to the manifest empirical evidence that all modalities participants use in interaction simultaneously play their role in constituting interaction. Multimodal interaction analysis is our approach to deal and to cope with the manifest modal complexity of interaction analytically. An important and up to now mostly neglected modal resource of interaction is space. Its relevance is expressed in our concept of “socio-spatial positioning” that is closely connected with two other concepts for spatial analysis: “architecture-for-interaction” and “social topography”. Having introduced these concepts theoretically, we briefly present a case study to proof their empirical fruitfulness. The case study focuses on three protagonists who are involved in the performance of a book presentation. During this presentation, the author of the presented book calls them to the stage one by one. We reconstruct how the involved participants are consecutively positioned and position themselves on a small stage in front of the audience. Turning to this complex multimodal process, we show how the participants embody and manifest the characteristics of their social contact(s). &nbsp
