The effect of parental education attainment on school outcomes

    No full text
This paper analyzes whether there exists a causal relationship between parental educational attainment and student outcomes or success. The research was carried out on 260 students, teachers and parents from six randomly selected secondary schools in three local government areas of Ogun state, Nigeria. The Junior Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (JSSCE) performance were used as variables for measuring school outcomes while less than bachelor‘s degree as well as bachelor‘s degree or its equivalent to PhD were used to measure parental educational attainment. Two null hypotheses were developed and Chi square statistics was used to analyse its findings. Parental education attainment was discovered to have a significant and fundamental effect on school outcomes

The relationship between the morale of staff (i.e. teachers’ morale) and performance in school organizations was looked at in this study. The research was carried out on a randomly selected sample of one hundred and twenty (120) students and teaching staff from the three colleges in Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State. Remuneration and Recognition were used to measure morale while teaching effectiveness was used as a variable for performance. It was discovered that staff morale has a significant effect on performance in school organizations

THE INFLUENCE OF SOCIOECONOMIC STATUS OF PARENTS ONCHILDREN'S ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN NIGERIA

    No full text
The relationship between the Socioeconomic Status (SES) of students and their academic 'achievement was examined in this study. The research was carried out on a randomly selected sample of 623 Junior Secondary School students from four secondary schools in Ado-Odo, Ota, Ogun State. The parental educational and occupational background was used as a measure of family social status. Student achievement is a score of the standardized Junior Secondary School Examination in English language organized by National Examination Council [NECO]. Parental Social Economic Status in particular has a significant and substantive independent effect on individual academic achievement

EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION: AN IMPERATIVE FOR SUCCESSFUL SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION IN AN INFORMATION AGE

    No full text
This paper discusses the important nature of communication in modern practice for school administrators. It looks at examples of the different types of technological means to facilitate effective communication. Two hypotheses were developed to examine the relationship between successful administration and effective communication. This study adopted the descriptive research of the ex-post facto type and multi-stage sampling technique was used to select participants for this study. In all 325 participants were selected made up of 125 staff and 300 students. One survey instrument was used in this study - Communication Effectiveness Rating Scale (CRES) developed by these researchers. The findings of this study indicate that students do not value importance of communication in school and students perceived more problems militating against effective communication in school than staff

PREDICTING THE ADOPTION OF E-LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM: A CASE OF SELECTED PRIVATE UNIVERSITIES IN NIGERIA

Despite the availability of studies on e-learning management system (eLMS) using information system models, its theoretical foundations have not yet captured social constructs that are peculiar to developing countries including Nigeria. This study was undertaken with the aim of investigating factors that could influence eLMS adoption in higher education. Drawing upon the Social Learning Theory (SLT), Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT), and two other variables which are Technology Culturation and Power (electricity), an empirical based model was developed to identify predictors of eLMS. The study used Smart Partial LeastSquare-Structured Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to examine the pattern of inter-correlation among the SLT and UTAUT constructs. The survey method of research was used by administering questionnaires to undergraduate students of 3 selected private universities in Ogun state, Nigeria with a sample size of 472. The results show that Attitude, Social Influence and Technology Culturation are strong determining factors of intention to adopt eLMS, while Performance Expectancy and Power do not significantly influence the Behavioural Intention to adopt eLMS. More so, Performance Expectancy and Behavioural Intention have positive influence on student grades. The results of this study will provide theoretical information on the intention to adopt eLMS and should be of interest to both researchers and education administrators in terms of planning and decision making

A Study of Factors Affecting Technology Usage

This study was carried out to find out the factors that could predict the use of technology in higher institutions of learning. Data was collected from three Universities (state, federal and private) in Nigeria. Drawing from the Social Learning Theory (SLT) and Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model, and the key factor of Technology Culturation, a model was developed to explain predictors of educational technology usage in universities in Nigeria being the country with the largest number of universities in Africa. \ \ The study used PLS-SEM to examine the pattern of inter-correlation among the constructs as well as the level of significance. Cross-sectional Survey research method consisting of 800 respondents who were undergraduate students from the three selected universities named University X, University Y and University Z in this study were used. Samples were drawn through the accidental sampling technique. \ \ The research would help top management officials in Nigerian universities with regards to investment decisions; it will guide them on the type of technology to invest on in order to enhance learning based on the investigated factors. \ \ Findings from this research show that the factors of technological culturation, students’ skills, social influence and performance expectancy all have significant effect on users’ behavior to use a technology were also found to have positive effects on technology usage. However, result shows a negative effect of students’ attitude on the use behavior of students to technology, that is to say that an increase in student’s attitude will lead to a decrease in use behavior. However, this is a very small effect in explaining the attitude of students to technology usage. This article opens doors to future researchers to investigate other factors that were not considered in this study. \

Information technology has improved operationsmanagement globally. The health sector has benefited fromthis revolution through the introduction of eHealthsolutions. The cost-effective utilization of InformationTechnology and flexibility in adapting and adoptingorganizational changes has posed some challenges to healthinstitutions in developing countries. In the case of Nigeria, the implementation of the National Health Policy entailsthe delivery of a full-packaged health care system; thispackage includes health education, maternal, newborn andchild healthcare, nutrition and immunization. All these, require record keeping and data storage. The managementof massive data storage and its availability on-demand hasbeen sources of concern to health institutions in thecountry. This has brought about a slow rate in hospital-tohospitalcollaboration, insecure information exchangebetween and across institutions and lack of properaccountability in the health sector amongst otherchallenges. In this paper we propose a Cloud computing infrastructurewhich will adopt application virtualization to address thechallenges in health care delivery in the country. This is anemerging technology that will provide eHealth solutions asservices to tenants; a process known as Software-as-a-Service (SaaS). The infrastructure should deliver a singleapplication through the browser to thousands of clients orstakeholders using scalable multitenant architecture. Thiswill help to minimize cost, manage healthcare resourceseffectively, and help with the realization of the MillenniumDevelopment Goals (MDGs) on healthcare
