    Applying some mathematical results on the asymptotic behaviour of solutions of stationary stochastic differential equations elaborated by H. BUNKE [2] and T. V. NHUNG [3-5], we derive explicit conditions ensuring the existence of the stable stationary forced vertical vibrations of the railway vehicle dynamic system model which was constructed by I. ZOBORY [6]. By using the Routh-Hurwitz criterion (see e. g. L. ARNOLD [1], p. 196) our stability conditions are stated in terms of algebraic inequalities involving parameters of the system model. Those inequalities can be easily checked by computers

    IFN-γ and T cells are both required for the development of experimental cerebral malaria during Plasmodium berghei ANKA infection. Surprisingly, however, the role of IFN-γ in shaping the effector CD4(+) and CD8(+) T cell response during this infection has not been examined in detail. To address this, we have compared the effector T cell responses in wild-type and IFN-γ(-/-) mice during P. berghei ANKA infection. The expansion of splenic CD4(+) and CD8(+) T cells during P. berghei ANKA infection was unaffected by the absence of IFN-γ, but the contraction phase of the T cell response was significantly attenuated. Splenic T cell activation and effector function were essentially normal in IFN-γ(-/-) mice; however, the migration to, and accumulation of, effector CD4(+) and CD8(+) T cells in the lung, liver, and brain was altered in IFN-γ(-/-) mice. Interestingly, activation and accumulation of T cells in various nonlymphoid organs was differently affected by lack of IFN-γ, suggesting that IFN-γ influences T cell effector function to varying levels in different anatomical locations. Importantly, control of splenic T cell numbers during P. berghei ANKA infection depended on active IFN-γ-dependent environmental signals--leading to T cell apoptosis--rather than upon intrinsic alterations in T cell programming. To our knowledge, this is the first study to fully investigate the role of IFN-γ in modulating T cell function during P. berghei ANKA infection and reveals that IFN-γ is required for efficient contraction of the pool of activated T cells

    Immunomodulatory and cytotoxic effects of bergenin and cinchonain Ia isolated from Peltophorum pterocarpum

    This paper reports for the first time the immunomodulatory and cytotoxic effects of two previously isolated compounds from the stem of Peltophorum pterocarpum and characterized as bergenin (1) and cinchonain Ia (2). The immunomodulatory capacity of these two compounds was assessed based on their ability to inhibit IL-2 release from RAW264.7 cells. The results demonstrated that cinchonain Ia (2) possesses distinctly immunomodulatory effects in vitro since this compound strongly inhibited IL-2 cytokine level (at concentrations of 4.0 and 0.8 μg/mL) (P&lt;0.01 and P&lt;0.05), while it was increased up to 8.84 time at the 100 μg/mL concentration. Additionally, compound 2 showed a weak cytotoxic effect against 5 human cancer cells (A549, Huh-7, T24, 8505, and SNU-1) with the IC50 values between 39.19 g/mL and 60.44 μg/mL

    Wave turbulence of a rotating array of quantized vortices in the T → 0 temperature limit

    The dynamics of quantized vortices in the zero temperature limit T0T \rightarrow 0 is currently of great interest, particularly in the case of the Fermi superfluid 3^3He-B. Here we study wave turbulence, generated by the librating motion of a rotating cylindrical container filled with 3^3He-B, in the limit of vanishing viscous forces at temperatures T0.2TcT \leq 0.2 T_{c}. The polarization of the quantized vortices with respect to the axis of rotation is measured using non-invasive NMR techniques. We observe a decrease of the polarization when the librating motion is started, and a two-stage relaxation process when the modulation of the rotation velocity is stopped. The first relaxation process is associated with the dissipation of large-scale flow stored in inertial waves and the solid body rotation of the vortex array. From the decay of these energy reservoirs we determine the rate of energy dissipation of large-scale flow. The later second process is related to the relaxation of Kelvin waves on individual vortices. This process is monitored by the recovery of the polarization. The existence of a Kelvin wave cascade at the lowest temperatures is currently a central open question. We supply some evidence for the cascade

    Sesquiterpenoids from Tithonia diversifolia (Hemsl.) A. Gray induce apoptosis and inhibit the cell cycle progression of acute myeloid leukemia cells

    Three sesquiterpene lactones (1-3) were isolated from the aerial part of Tithonia diversifolia (Hemsl.) A. Gray grown in the Hoa Binh province in Viet Nam. The structures of these three sesquiterpene lactones were identified as tagitinin A (1), 1β-hydroxytirotundin 3-O-methyl ether (2), and tagitinin C (3) by analyzing spectroscopic data. For the first time, compound 2 was isolated from T. diversifolia growing in Viet Nam. Furthermore, contrary to existing literature, we determined that compound 1 was the major isolate. Compounds 1 and 3 significantly decreased numbers of acute myeloid leukemia OCI-AML3 cells by promoting apoptosis and causing cell cycle arrest at G0/G1 phase at concentrations as low as 2.5 μg/mL (compound 1) and 0.25 μg/mL (compound 3). Additionally, all three compounds showed cytotoxic activity against five human cancer cell lines (A549, T24, Huh-7, 8505, and SNU-1), with IC50 values ranging from 1.32 ± 0.14 to 46.34 ± 2.74 μM. Overall, our findings suggest that compounds 1 and 3 may be potential anti-cancer therapeutics and thus warrant further study
