Report on industrial attachment with Motorola Electronics Pte Ltd
This report thoroughly describes the author’s fruitfully valuable experiences and achievements which contribute to the improvement of process, efficiency and effectiveness to the company during his Industrial Attachment to Motorola Electronics Pte., Ltd. from the period of 7th January 2008 to 7th June 2008. Having been assigned as software engineer under Motorola Software Development Centre (SDC), the author is responsible is to daily script seven programming languages in order to build the dashboard and operation tracking which are able to track the mobile phone software integration with the aim of improving automation workflow, capturing and providing real data. The seven programming languages are PHP, HTML, SMARTY, SQL, JAVASCRIPT, PERL, and CLEARCASE where CLEARCASE is run under Linux/Unix Environment. The author has done a dozen projects including big and small project. Due to company confidential, only four of them are selected to be described in the report. Having the opportunity to be involved in the real and complex working environment, the author has gained an extremely enlightening exposure not only in the programming part but also the diversity and complexity of a business function and interpersonal skill as well.
Modeling and performance analysis of mobile ad hoc network using OPNET
Mobile ad hoc network is a collection of two or more nodes that are dynamically and arbitrarily located. It is self-organizing and adaptive; it does not require intervention of any centralized access point or existing infrastructure. In order for nodes to communicate with each other, a routing protocol is used to basically discover routes among the nodes inside the network. The design goal of ad hoc network routing protocol is to establish the routes quickly and correctly between sources and destinations. The protocol should provide loop-free as well as minimize overhead for data transmission so as to conserve available bandwidth and increase scalability.
The routing protocol which is used in the project is Ad Hoc On-Demand Distance Vector (AODV). AODV routing protocol is increasingly more popular for mobile nodes in ad hoc network as it provides a quick adaptation to dynamic change due to mobility, low processing and memory overhead, low network utilization and loop-free protocol.
In this Final Year Project, AODV routing protocol has been analyzed by measuring four imperative metrics including packet delivery fraction, average delay, normalized routing load and normalized media access control (MAC) load under different scenarios which were performed using varying number of sources, mobility and network sizes.Bachelor of Engineerin
Routing performance of mobile ad hoc network in urban street-grid environment by using peer-to-peer propagation model
In this paper, effect of non-line of sight propagation in an urban-street environment on routing performance in mobile ad hoc network is investigated. We implement a reliable propagation model in network simulator (NS2) named peer to peer propagation model which has been shown to be suitable for our street-grid environment by taking into account non-line of sight paths. Our simulation result shows that multiple reflected signals in an urban street grid environment have significant impacts on routing performance.Published versio
Energy consumption reduction by multi-hop transmission in cellular network
Adding relay stations between base station and mobile stations in a cellular network can extend network coverage, overcome multi-path fading and increase the capacity of the system. With the increase of data traffic, more and more energy is needed to support communication. Hence, it is challenging to design an optimal relay network that minimizes the average energy consumption. In this paper, a 3-tier-chitecture with two-hop relay network consisting of a source, a destination and multiple relay nodes is proposed to decrease the consumed energy for a given QoS requirement.Published versio
