Letter from Emil Neumann to sister Louisa Neumann from Galveston.
2 page manuscript letter on front and back of one sheet of lined paper.Letter from Emil Neumann, a Confederate soldier, to his sister Louisa Neumann, from Galveston. The letter describes a battle in which Emil was in charge of a cannon "near the brick warehouse" on the Strand. He witnessed the capture of the vessel "Harriet Lane" and the escape of her companion ships, the "Orosco" and the "Clifton"

A sufficient condition for global regularity of the ∂¯-Neumann operator
AbstractA theory of global regularity of the ∂¯-Neumann operator is developed which unifies the two principal approaches to date, namely the one via compactness due to Kohn–Nirenberg [J.J. Kohn, L. Nirenberg, Non-coercive boundary value problems, Comm. Pure Appl. Math. 18 (1965) 443–492] and Catlin [David Catlin, Global regularity of the ∂¯-Neumann problem, in: Y.-T. Siu (Ed.), Complex Analysis of Several Variables, in: Proc. Sympos. Pure Math., vol. 41, Amer. Math. Soc., Providence, RI, 1984, pp. 39–49] and the one via plurisubharmonic defining functions and/or vector fields that commute approximately with ∂¯ due to Boas and the author [Harold P. Boas, Emil J. Straube, Sobolev estimates for the ∂¯-Neumann operator on domains in Cn admitting a defining function that is plurisubharmonic on the boundary, Math. Z. 206 (1) (1991) 81–88; Harold P. Boas, Emil J. Straube, De Rham cohomology of manifolds containing the points of infinite type, and Sobolev estimates for the ∂¯-Neumann problem, J. Geom. Anal. 3 (3) (1993) 225–235]
Jubiläums-Katalog Neumann & Mendel : Mechanische Kleiderfabriken.
40th anniversary catalog of the Neumann & Mendel textile company, including drawings of clothing produced by the company and photographs of the
company's factories and offices.Emil Neumann, a textile merchant, founded the successful textile trading company Neumann & Mendel with his business partner Carl Mendel. The company thrived,
first under Emil Neumann and, after his death, under his son's management. But Hitler's rise to power in 1933 brought ever increasing personal and economic exclusion
and persecution. Ludwig Neumann, the son of the original founder, and the other members of the family faced increasing harassment. Because of the Nazi's anti-Semitic
campaigns, business deteriorated and the family was forced to sell the company. The original German-language inventory is available in the folderProcessed for digitizationSent for digitizationReturned from digitizationLinked to online manifestationdigitize
[Italian diary] 1938-1940
Handwritten manuscript, describing Emil Neumann’s difficult sojourn in Italy, waiting for permission to immigrate to the United States.digitizedEmil Neumann and his wife Irma fled to Italy in order to get on a boat to America. Whilst waiting for their visas in Milan, Emil got arrested in June 1940 and incarcerated in a prison in Como, where he and 13 other Jewish refugees stayed until they were transferred to Salerno in July 1940. They were brought to an old monastery in Campagna (40km from Salerno), where conditions were better than in the prison in Como. The diary ends in October, when he was still waiting for his visa in Campagna.George Berlstei
