An analysis of rural subdivision development on selected reservoirs in the Trinity River Basin Texas

    No full text
The primary objective of this study was to determine the extent to which rural subdivision development, appearing as land marketed for vacation land or lot sale, was occurring on lands in the periphery of major, non-controlled, man-made reservoirs in the Trinity Basin of East Texas and to characterize such subdivision development with a summary description of selected study areas. Study areas include Cedar Creek Reservoir located in Henderson County and Lake Livingston situated on land in San Jacinto, Walker, trinity and Pol counties. Data were collected by the author and included a thirty-seven county survey of subdivision development. The survey attempted to establish the location and size of a pre-defined typology of subdivisions. Types of subdivisions sought include: (1) country estate; (2) mobile home; (3) conventional; (4) new town development; (5) resort-open space communities; and (6) retirement communities. Survey data were used to establish subdivision development patterns in the study region. Regional subdivision development patterns were used to locate subdivision impact areas as they relate to man-made reservoirs of 100,000 acre feet or more. Major subdivision impact was found on two of seven reservoirs. Further investigation disclosed that subdivision development was located near the water-line of both reservoirs. A county record documentary survey was utilized to determine the total population of subdivisions in a two mile radius of the normal water level which defined the study area.

God's Trinity from the Feminist Perspective

    No full text
This paper God's Trinity from the Feminist Perspective is a try to draw direction and basic contours of feminist renewal of metaphorical speech about the Holy Trinity. The author draws especially from works of Cathryne M. LaCugna and Elisabeth A. Johnson. Target of the paper is to investigate feminist starting points and inclusive images as means of reviving trinitarian faith for present time. Deconstruction of Latin trinitarian theology of Sv. Augustine and Tomas Aquinas aimed at critique of detachment of immanent and economic Trinity in their works forms a basis for reconstruction of metaphorical speech on St. Trinity in metaphors of wisdom, friendship and perichoretic relation. “Indeed, He is coming with the clouds” A study of Revelation 1:7-8 as the multivalent thematic statement of the Apocalypse

    No full text
Although many scholars regard Rev 1:7, 1:8, or 1:7-8 as thematic for Revelation, they have not substantiated their claim. Revelation 1:7-8, which highlights the cosmic parousia of Jesus Christ, is the multivalent thematic statement of the Apocalypse. Revelation 1:7-8 features a prominent allusion to Dan 7:13, which serves to unlock the multilayered meaning of the Apocalypse. To highlight Rev 1:7-8, the author uses such literary devices as poetry, inclusio, inclusive language, and liturgical dialogue. The author also uses chain-link interlock to connect Rev 1:7-8 with Rev 1:9-20, which is thematic. The author further links Rev 1:7-8 and Revelation 4-5 and establishes Daniel 7 as an allusion that controls these two central chapters. The author uses key words throughout Revelation 6-22 that resonate with Rev 1:7-8. With Rev 1:7-8 as the axis, the author expands the meaning of Christ's cosmic parousia in all its dimensions and ramifications

THESIS 9866The project to develop the Trinity Early Screening Test for Dyslexia (TEST-D) extends over 3 phases. This thesis describes the processes involved in Phase 1. A large battery of prototypical tests in the phonological, magnocellular, cerebellar and speed of processing domains were devised by the author and administered to children between the ages of 4 and 7 years of age in a pilot capacity. Test/retest and floor ceiling effects analyses determined which tests from the pilot should proceed to the National Study

Determinants of Economic Growth-The Case of Zimbabwe

    No full text
The paper investigated the determinants of economic growth in Zimbabwe over the period 1980 to 2017 drawing from previously identified factors as discussed in international literature which had been acknowledged as important determinants. The variables included human capital, gross fixed capital formation, unemployment, inflation and government expenditure. The study employed Unit Root Tests. The Auto Regressive Distributed Lag model was used to examine the mixed variable while the Ordinary Least Squares model and the Johansen test were used to examine all stationary and non-stationary variables respectively. In the case of co-integration, the Error Correction Model and the Causality test were run. Ultimately, the results indicated that in the long-run gross fixed capital formation has a positive influence on economic growth while human capital development has a negative influence. ECM found that in the short run there is a positive relationship between lags of economic growth, government expenditure, inflation and human capital with economic growth

Beyond the Catholic-Protestant divide : religious and ethnic diversity in the North and South of Ireland

Paper presented to the IBIS conference Old structures, new beliefs: religion, community and politics in contemporary Ireland, University College Dublin, 15 May 2003.This paper explores the challenges posed by the ethnic diversification of contemporary Irish society for conventional understandings of and responses to issues of religion, community and politics. It argues that the particularities of social and institutional histories and structures in the North and South have eclipsed wider considerations of both race and ethnicity and religious identity beyond the Catholic-Protestant divide. This has, in turn, served to obscure the many dynamic changes that such diversity has catalysed both within Irish civil society generally, and within the island’s traditional religious institutions themselves. The paper discusses the promises and potentials of conceptualising religion or religious identity and the relationships between religion and ethnicity within broader cultural and political fields, and their implications for the “new” (multicultural) Ireland. Not applicableti -TS 07.07.10 Author is part of the school of Sociolog

Once and Future Antiquities in Science Fiction and Fantasy

    No full text
In 15 all-new essays, this volume explores how science fiction and fantasy draw on materials from ancient Greece and Rome, \u27displacing\u27 them from their original settings-in time and space, in points of origins and genre-and encouraging readers to consider similar \u27displacements\u27 in the modern world. Modern examples from a wide range of media and genres-including Philip Pullman\u27s His Dark Materials and the novels of Helen Oyeyemi, the Rocky Horror Picture Show and Hayao Miyazaki\u27s Spirited Away, and the role-playing games Dungeons and Dragons and Warhammer 40K-are brought alongside episodes from ancient myth, important moments from history, and more. All together, these multifaceted studies add to our understanding of how science fiction and fantasy form important areas of classical reception, not only transmitting but also transmuting images of antiquity. The volume concludes with an inspiring personal reflection from the New York Times-bestselling author of speculative fiction, Catherynne M. Valente, offering her perspective on the limitless potential of the classical world to resonate with experience today.https://digitalcommons.trinity.edu/mono/1105/thumbnail.jp

    Grief, Tranquility, and \u3cem\u3eŚānta Rasa\u3c/em\u3e in Raviṣeṇa\u27s \u3cem\u3ePadmapurāṇa\u3c/em\u3e

Jains have long celebrated the serene ascetic, senses controlled and emotionally unperturbed. Examining the seventh-century author Raviṣeṇa\u27s Sanskrit Padmapurāṇa, a Jain version of the Rāma story, this chapter demonstrates the role of emotion and, in particular, of grief, in the realization of that ultimate state of dispassionate emotionlessness. Arguing that the Padmapurāṇa aims to encourage the renunciation through the production of śānta rasa, Clines demonstrates that Raviṣeṇa engenders grief in both Rāma and the reader, and tracks how that grief both motivates Rāma to renounce the world and encourages the reader outside the text to do the same

Aspects of Switch Reference in Marubo, a Panoan Language of Western Amazonia

    No full text
This thesis is a description of the switch reference system in Marubo (ISO 693-3 [mzr]), an underdescribed Panoan language of western Amazonia. Marubo has a fascinating switch reference system which carries a high functional load in the grammar. This complex system, comprised of nine markers, tracks referents across clauses, often displaying sensitivity to an argument’s grammatical role; temporal and logical relations are also encoded as extended functions of the markers. Of particular typological interest is the cross-referencing of O arguments with other S, A, or O arguments. Switch reference markers may occur in clause chains where they target either adjacent or non-adjacent clauses. In certain cases, the standard order of clauses may be reversed, often producing a reading which elaborates on the preceding information. In addition, non-coreferential clauses may be interposed in clause chains for brief alternations of topic. Lastly, areas which deserve more study are presented, such as the flexible use of switch reference to mark discontinuities related to time, weather and events. All data and analysis come from four years of immersion-based fieldwork by the author, with abundant examples from a variety of Marubo discourse genres.switch referencesyntaxPanoan linguistic
