Zooplankton in the Vicinity of NagaShima
The seasonal abundance of zooplankton was investigated as one of the studies on fauna
and flora of Nagashima Island in Kagoshima Prefecture. The investigation was carried out at
seven stations in the vicinity of Nagashima from March to December in 1974. The collected
number of zooplankton fluctuated markedly and Noctiluca scintillans and cladocerans are the
most abundant species in this area. Copepods were also encountered and among them, Acatia clausi, Calanus helgolandicus are the dominant species in winter and Acartia pacifica, Acrocalanus gibber in summer
Palmoplantaire keratodermie type Nagashima
We describe a 15 year old patient diagnosed with Nagashima-type palmoplantar keratoderma (NPPK). NPPK is an autosomal recessive nonsyndromic diffuse palmoplantar keratosis mainly found in Japanese and Chinese populations. NPPK is caused by mutations in the SERPINB7 gene, in which prevalent mutations expert a founder effect in these particular populations

Possible Nagashima-Type Palmoplantar Keratosis in Two Siblings
Nagashima-type palmoplantar keratosis (PPK) is an autosomal recessive, transgressive and non-progressive form of PPK. It was once described as a mild form of mal de Meleda, but it is now proposed as a novel entity of PPK. Since its pathogenesis remains unclear, it is important to clarify the mode of inheritance. Here, we present a case of possible Nagashima-type PPK in 2 siblings. The siblings had non-affected parents, suggesting that the mode of inheritance was autosomal recessive. At present, reports on PPK in the English literature are limited, and thus the clinical features of Nagashima-type PPK may not be well appreciated in Western countries. More reports and concise clinical observations with genetic studies are required to establish this new entity of PPK
