Some applications of a stochastic assignment model for the evaluation of parking policies
In the paper a model is proposed (as well as applied to a real-size test-network) for the evaluation and design of parking policies. The demand-side model explicitly simulates users' choices related to path, parking type and parking location; these choices are simulated through a Probit-type discrete-choice model. Users are divided into market-segments defined by the O/D pair, the departur4 time, the trip purpose and the desired parking duration. The supply-side of the model extends the usual road network model in order to include different parking types and pedestrian links; capacity functions able to evaluate delay due to parking-space searching are also developed. The demand/supply interaction is modelled as a Stochastic User Equilibrium with multilpe users' categories
Special issue on dynamic models serving real-time urban transport operations
In the era of intelligent transportation systems, there is an increasing need of developing dynamic transport models to improve the realism of simulations, aiming to higher efficiency of network management interventions, as well as to more reliable real-time user information. These tasks are still today faced by operators with limited support from transport modeling with respect to the potential contribution of state-of-the-art methodologies. Moreover, great opportunities are envisaged by the availability of distributed computing, artificial intelligence and big data. Thus, new applicative solutions for transport network operators can emerge based on new modeling paradigms where dynamics play a major role in different fields, such as transit service optimization and fleet control, human travel behavior and passenger information, urban freight distribution and vehicle routing, traffic signal setting and flow forecast and highway network management and road pricing

Methods and technologies for quality, safety, security and efficiency through ITS - Guest editorial
This is the editorial of the Special Issue on selected papers from the scientific seminar of ItalianTransport Academicians (SIDT) titled "Methods and technologies for quality, safety, security and efficiency through ITS". The main issues of this scientific seminar can be summarised as pursuing innovative transport systems, services and solutions, in particular the subjects related to a gradual independence of the main energy source that transport systems are based on and the use of lower energy per unit mass in motorised mobility in order to reduce the energy consumption per person and - consequently - greenhouse gas emissions
