Una aproximación al relacionamiento entre universidad y sector productivo
The research project aims to analyze the relationships between the university knowledge and its implementation in the local industry. Researching and evaluating the functioning of knowledge pills in the teaching of the subject Database of computing careers at the Faculty of Engineering of the National University of Jujuy; to then design its implementation in the computing sector in the province of Jujuy (Argentina).Fil: Cruz, Enrique Normando. Behavioral and hormonal effects of two weaning methods in trotter mares
Given the paucity of published data on the effects of artificial weaning on mares, the aim of the present study was to investigate the behavioral and hormonal effects of two different weaning methods in trotter mares. In Stud 1 (10 mares, S1), weaning was performed around 5 months post partum, two foals/week, and mares put to paddock after separation. In Stud 2 (12 mares, S2) weaning was performed around 7 months post-partum, all foals on the same day, and mares put into indoor individual stalls for two days after separation. Behavioral observations and saliva and hair sampling for RIA cortisol levels assessment were done on day -7, day 0 (weaning day), day 7 and day 30. Milk was sampled on day -7 and day 0. On field behavioral observations were done using instantaneous scan sampling every two minutes for one hour on each day of observation. Behavioral data were analyzed using Friedman ANOVAs, U-Mann Whitney tests and Generalized Linear Mixed Models. Cortisol data using repeated measure ANOVAs. Spearman correlations were used to assess correlations. Mares in both studs ate the least on day 0 (p<0.001). On day 24 0, vocalizations and locomotion were higher than in any other day (p= 0.003 and p=0.045, respectively) and higher than in the other stud (both p<0.001) in S1 and S2, respectively. Saliva cortisol concentrations showed week, but significant, correlations with eating, stall pacing, pawing and vocalizing. Results suggest that artificial weaning could be a stressor for mares in both groups. Mares whose foals were weaned earlier did not show more stress-associated changes in behavioral or endocrine parameters than those whose foals were weaned later, but who were housed more restrictively for two days after weaning

TREATMENT OF OOCYTES AND IN VITRO FERTILIZED EMBRYOS WITH MONOCLONAL ANTIBODIES AND GUINEA PIG COMPLEMENT FOR NEUTRALIZATION OF CONTAMINATING BOVINE HERPESVIRUS-1
The association of bovine herpesvirus-1 (BHV-1) with oocytes and in vitro fertilized (IVF) embryos after treatment with a mixture of three BHV-1 monoclonal antibodies (AB) and guinea pig complement (GPC) was investigated in a series of three experiments. Exposure of cumulus-oocyte complexes (COC) to BHV-1 (10(5) TCID50/ml) in the maturation medium for 22 h followed by treatment with the AB alone or with a mixture of AB and GPC prior to fertilization, yielded a total of 15% of resulting embryos free of the virus. When the cumulus-free oocytes/zygotes were treated with a mixture of AB and GPC after fertilization and then co-cultured in the medium containing bovine oviductal epithelial cells (BOEC), 88% of samples containing embryos (n = 70) were free of the virus. Application of the same treatment or GPC alone followed by the culture of zygotes in the medium without BOEC yielded all 40 samples containing 123 embryos free of the infectious virus. In addition, the Day-7 embryos exposed to BHV-1 and then treated with a mixture of AB and GPC were tested negative. In conclusion, these experiments suggest that BHV-1 contamination of zygotes and Day-7 IVF embryos may be neutralized by treatment with a mixture of AB and GPC or GPC alone. The results also show that it is advantageous to use the IVF embryo culture system free of supporting cells in order to increase the number of embryos free from the infectious virus
Dog assisted interventions in a specialized centre and potential concerns for animal welfare
In the last decade the employment of dogs in ‘Animal Assisted Interventions’ (AAI) has
encountered growing popularity, in the absence of a systematic assessment of the potential
threats to the welfare of the animals. The present study is aimed at the
analysis of the conditions in which dogs residing in a single specialized centre are most
frequently employed and the potential sources of distress. In this context, the large number
of AAI performed and the uniformity in the management of the animals, allows avoiding
the potential effects of different living conditions of the dogs
