Provenance studies of obsidian artifacts in Anatolia: new data from Agean costal sites
Baklatepe and Limantepe are settlements located along the Aegean coast of Anatolia in the Izmir region. The excavations revealed that these sites have been continuously inhabited since the Late Chalcolit hic up to the Early Byzant ine periods (Baklatepe) and since Neolithic t imes up to the present day (Limantepe) . In this study, 40 obsidian and 6 flint artifacts from the Chalcolithic and Early Bronze Age levels of these sites were investigated with an interdisciplinary approach using fission-track (FT)dating, and Instrumental Neutron Activation Analysis (INAA) techniques.
Based upon thei r FTages the obsidian artifacts were classified in two groups. The main group of 37 samples is characterized by FT ages varying between 148 ± 0.47 and 1.80 ± 0.20 Ma,with a mean value of 1.65 ± 0.05 Ma, and low U content (around 3 ppm) These data allow attributing this group to the Aegean Melos Island obsidian sources. The second group is represented by only 3 samples, characterized by a lower FT age (around 1 Ma) and a significantly higher U content (around 9 ppm). This group was identi fied as origina t ing from the volcaniccomplex (Central Anatolia). INAA studies have been carried out on 33 obsidian artifacts at the TRIGA Mark II research reactor of the University of Pavia following the techniques which have been routinely used by the Radiochemist ry Group. Results fully agree with those obtained with FT dating: most artifa cts originated from the Melos -Demenegaki flow, and only 3 samples from Central Anatolia . INAA analyses of the f lint artifacts revealed that these samples, unsuitable for application of FT dating, can be easily discriminated from the obsidian artifacts based on their chemical prop erties, especially considering the trace elements contents. Compa rison with data obtained on samples from other settlements of Anato lia and Italy proved that INAA is an efficient technique for discriminating flint artifacts originat ing from different sources

The Plot Structure in Pio Baroja's Novels
Categories titled simple plots, loose plots, no plots, and parallel plots are used within this thesis to organize and contrast sixteen novels by Spanish author Pio Baroja
Have they really left? Memory, heritage, and the names of our ancestors. The case of an Apulian family, mine
Throughout our lives, many of us ponder the significance of our names. Like others, Giuseppe Pio Cascavilla too embarked on this introspective journey during his teenage years, spurred by curiosity and a desire to understand his identity. His initial revelations came from Don Raffaele, a deputy-parish who informed him that Giuseppe means \u27may God add and abound,\u27 often sharing amusing anecdotes to emphasize this. Pio, on the other hand, simply translates to \u27pious\u27 in English.
While these etymologies provided some satisfaction, they barely scratched the surface of what names mean on a personal level. Names can carry profound personal significance, reflecting the intentions of those who bestow them, and are deeply entwined with religious, territorial, and even sports-related identities. The author\u27s own family’s naming traditions offer a rich tapestry of such meanings, rooted in memory and devotion.
The author explores these traditions in the Italian region of Apulia within the maternal branch of his own family, the Di Biases, spanning three generations. The names in his family fall into three categories: those honoring relatives, those originating from religious devotion, and those chosen purely out of personal preference.
A recurring theme is the desire to keep the memory of loved ones alive through names. For instance, the name Luigi appears multiple times across generations, adhering to a tradition of naming firstborns after grandparents. This practice, common in the author\u27s region, creates a link between past and present, ensuring that familial bonds endure.
Religious devotion also plays a significant role. Author\u27s cousin Veliana, for example, is named after the Madonna dei Sette Veli, reflecting both religious faith and a connection to their hometown. The author\u27s own name, Giuseppe Pio, honors both a family tradition and the revered Padre Pio.
Despite the pressure of tradition, some names are chosen freely, reflecting the parents\u27 personal tastes once the customary obligations have been fulfilled. This blend of obligation and choice highlights the complex interplay of memory, devotion, and personal preference in the family\u27s naming practices.
Ultimately, names in the author\u27s family are not just labels but symbols of heritage, devotion, and continuity, weaving a rich narrative that connects generations and preserves a shared history
Further expanding an analysis previously made by the same author, this essay addresses the analysis of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact in a global perspective and adds new evidence on the factors that influenced Mussolini’s and Japanese Government’s decision to promote the Nazi-Soviet Peace Feelers during the World War II
Quando la storia diventa smemorata. A proposito di un vademecum per il giorno del ricordo
This article deals with post-war population movements, expulsion, and ethnic massacres affecting Yugoslav, during the years 1943-1947, with a focus on the of Italian Eastern Border. The author argued that Yugoslav political and military leaders considered the aftermath of the Second World War, in their neighbourhood, a convenient window of opportunity for "adjusting" the ethnic structure in specific regions according to their ideological visions and nationalistic ideals. Such an “ethnic cleansing” combined with Bolshevik social engineering occurred in Istria, Dalmatia and in the city of Trieste
L’impero-nazione di Napoleone Bonaparte
The author maps the history of the napoleonic Empire 'backwards', starting from the moments of genetic weakness which led to its "decline and fall". Among these moments: the weakness of a regime torn between the old monarchic legitimacy and the new republican rule of law; the establishment of an exclusive nationality principle, in accordance to which other territories of the Empire were exploited as mere strategic strongholds, instrumental to the assurance of France's natural borders; the processes of violent, cohercive "civilization", of economic and military exploitation to which subaltern states were submitted
“Bellum piraticum” e guerra al terrore. Qualche considerazione problematica
The Author analyzes the definition of the war "against pirates" from Antiquity to Modern European thought (Gentili, Ayala, Vattel, Wolff) up to Carl Schmitt's reflection on the impossibility of using this concept within a planetary space where the State is in control of both land and sea. Although in the first half of the XX century the category of war against "predatory States" seemed to lose significance, it acquires today a renewed importance in the deliberate attempts of the Us administration to give juridical form to the "war on terror" of the new Millennium
Price Information Overload as an Indirect Consequence of Omnibus Directive Implementation – a Theoretical Approach to PIO
Theoretical background: Information overload (IO) occurs when information flow exceeds the information needs. Nowadays IO is perceived as a permanent feature of modern society. Undoubtedly, IO is a negative phenomenon due to its negative impact on consumer behaviour. Price information overload (PIO) is a specific type of IO. PIO is a phenomenon that can arise due to a change in EU law. The Omnibus Directive, implemented in Poland as an EU member state, has created a new requirement for sellers to communicate promotional prices. This requirement includes the lowest price in force 30 days before introducing the price reduction (known as the omnibus price). PIO occurs when there is an excess of mandatory promotional price information provided to the buyer.Purpose of the article: This article attempts to introduce the concept of price information overload, which has not been previously discussed in the marketing literature to the best of the author’s knowledge. The paper also highlights the indirect consequences of implementing the Omnibus Directive in an EU member state.Research methods: This article introduces a new type of information overload called “price information overload” (PIO) and extends the concept of information overload (IO). The article is a theoretical paper that presents PIO’s essence and some graphical representations. The author, who specializes in pricing, developed the PIO concept by starting with the scientific literature on IO.Main findings: The author posits that the Omnibus Directive does not inherently pose a risk of PIO, but rather that sellers may inadvertently contribute to it through their pricing practices. The PIO concept highlights the relevance and actuality of the IO issue in communicating promotional prices. The idea of being overwhelmed with too much price information is a practical concern. Consequently, the author suggests that a potential deluge of price information be regarded as an element of a nuanced system of price communication
Functional Synthesis of a New Class of Micro Electro-Mechanical Systems
This paper discloses a new method of functional synthesis of a new class of MEMS (Micro Electro-Mechanical Systems) that could be conceived thanks to: (a) a new concept flexural hinge (that has been recently patented by the Author) and (b) the accurate detection of a MEMS device pseudo-rigid-body equivalent mechanism, which allows the application of several classic algorithms well known in kinematic synthesis. The adopted approach is explained and two examples are presented. Finally, basic information is provided for the MEMs technology based construction process that has been used for prototyping.
With Cass. n. 3022/2020, The Supreme Court – for the first time ever called upon to rule on quaestio iuris – has stated that the art. 393 c.p.c. must also implement the bankruptcy trial. The author, after critically analysing the reasons for the decision, comes to the conclusion that the principle laid down by the Court is inadmissible, as it conflicts both with the not substitute nature of the claim and, more generally, with the whole structure of the bankruptcy trial. It also would raise doubts of constitutional legitimacy
