The Lahawiyin: Identity and History in a Sudanese Arab Tribe Tamador Ahmed Khalid Abdalla Abstract This thesis is concerned with the Lahawiyin of northern Sudan, and it explores the relationship between identity and history in this Sudanese Arab tribe since the late nineteenth century. The history of the Lahawiyin reveals continuous crossings of borders and boundaries through a period of substantial political and economic change, much of it driven by external forces. The thesis demonstrates that the Lahawiyin Arab identity has been central to the way that Lahawiyin leaders have sought to develop and maintain their authority, and the ways in which ordinary Lahawiyin have tried to maintain a particular way of life and patterns of social relations. Arab identity has been used instrumentally to make claims or assert rights; but it has also shaped the way in which Lahawiyin have understood their interests. The emphasis on Arab identity has been closely linked to the prolonged campaign by some Lahawiyin for a homeland (dar), and in the way that Lahawiyin have negotiated their subordinate status within larger Arab confederations – first the Kababish, then the Shukriyya. It has also shaped Lahawiyin relationships with their own subordinates, particularly slaves. Though the Lahawiyin campaign for a dar has not been successful, and their lifestyle of most Lahawiyin has now changed irrevocably away from pastoralism, Arab identity has continued to be important in current contests over the political status of potential leaders, and the group as a whole. The thesis makes use of a range of archival sources in the UK National Archive, in Sudan Archive at Durham and at the National Records Office in Khartoum. During the fieldwork various academic sources were consulted in Khartoum and Gedarif which form an important aspect of the narratives together with the many stories which were generated from the oral histories told by the Lahawiyin. Using these materials, the thesis discusses how the Lahawiyin, have utilized their Arabness, and the way they present their history, to negotiate their status with a series of regimes, from the Turco-Egyptian state of the nineteenth century to the current regime of the National Congress Party

Abstract: On March 2, 2020, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia confirmed its first case of the emerging coronavirus strain that causes coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Shortly thereafter, the number of confirmed cases nationwide began to rise. Since the looming outbreak, all healthcare professionals, including pharmacists, began to work at maximum capacity and effort. The Saudi Society of Clinical Pharmacy (SSCP) recognizes the significant impact pharmacists can have during outbreaks. Based on the scientific evidence available during this outbreak, the SSCP set up an expert working group to conceptualize and draft proposed recommendations that highlight the roles and responsibilities of pharmacists during epidemics and pandemics. The SSCP working group made 28 recommendations. In addition to national and institutional guidelines, these recommendations could serve as guidance for affected entities. Bu çalışmada, Hanefi fakihlerinden İmam Tâcüşşerîa Ömer b. Ahmed el-Mahbûbî'nin Nihâyetü'l-Kifâye li-Dirâyeti'l-Hidâye adlı eserini tahkik ederek değerlendirdik. El yazma, Merginânî'nin el-Hidâye şerhu bidâyetü'l-mübtedî adlı eserinin "kavluhu" tipi kısmî şerhidir. Müellif, eserini anlaşılır bir üslupla yazmıştır. Eser, el-Hidâye'nin en eski ikinci şerhi olması ve kapalı yönlerini şerh etmesi yönüyle faydalıdır. Eserin müellifi Tâcüşşerîa, Orta Asya Hanefî mezhebi tarihi, Buhara ilim ve siyasetinde öne çıkan/sadr ailelerinden Mahbûbîler'e mensuptur. Müellifin soy ağacındaki baba, oğul ve vefat bilgisi ile ilgili karışıklığı, çeşitli el yazmalardaki şecerelerden gidererek torunundan aşağı doğru ailenin yakınlık sırası Sadrüşşerîa es-Sani Ubeydullah b. Mesud b. Tâcüşşerîa Ömer b. Sadrüşşerîa el-Evvel Ahmed b. Ubeydullah b. In this study, we evaluated the work of Imam Tajussharia Omar b. Ahmad al-Mahbûbî, one of the Hanafi faqihs, titled Nihâyah al-Kifâyah li-Dirâyah al-Hidâyah. The manuscript is the partial commentary of the "kavluhu" type of Marginânî's al-Hidâyah şerhu bidâyah al-mubtedî. The author wrote his work in an understandable style. The work is useful in that it is the second oldest commentary of al-Hidayah, and it interprets the closed aspects. The author of the work, Tajussharia, belongs to the Mahbûbîs one of the prominent / sadr families in the history of the Hanafi sect of Central Asia, the science and politics of Bukhara. Clearing up the confusion about the father, son and death information in the author's family tree from the genealogies in various manuscripts, the order of closeness of the family from the grandson down is Sadrushsharia as-Sani Ubaydullah b. Masud b. Tajussharia Omar b. Sadrushsharia al-Awwal Ahmad b. Ubaydullah b. Ibrahim. The date of his death should not be 709, but a date after 696 compared to the events he experienced. There are about 30 copies of the manuscript, and we have compared and examined 10 of the 12 copies of the second volume. The copy of the Fatih Library, on which we are based, is one of the oldest copies written by the author and the closest copy to his life. Our study is the chapters between the bay'/sale-ikrâh/coercion chapters of the second volume of the manuscript

The biography novel is a modern narrative writing genre, combining between two well-known narrative artists characteristics, the biography and the novel. The novel of “Hymn of Persia” (ternimet Faris) by Awad Al-Alqami is belongs to this type of writing, in which the author recounts the events that he and his family and region have experienced since the rule of the Sultanates in the 1950s till 2018s the time of writing this novel, which divided it by the Author into four tales’ structure whose narrative threads were consistent and coherent. It is: Cactus's born tale, Displaced people tale, manhood prematurely tale, and an expected return story. We have reviewed it critically, in terms of formal elements such as title, author's name and supplementary text, as well as the structure of the main and secondary characters, spatial and temporal structure. In our study, we took this descriptive and analytical curriculum. Then we concluded to these results

The cross sectional study was conducted to determine the prevalence of Schistosoma mansoni infection and it’s association with hepatitis B infection in residents of the Gummuiya scheme in the suburbs of Omdurman . Faecal and urine samples from 225individuals in the village of Baraka in Gummuiya Agricultural Scheme were examined for S.mansoni and S.haematobium eggs using modified Kato thick smear and tube centrifugation techniques . The prevalence of of S.mansoniwas found to be (25.3%). A serosurvey of 128 subjects for hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) was conducted. These subjects comprise 46 bilharzia patients ,38negative controls from the study area and 44 negative controls from Khartoum The sero-positivity of (HBsAg) in these groups was 30.4% ,7.8% and 11.3% respectively . The difference in the positivity was statistically significant.(chi –square = 6.55,=P ‹0.05 =0.01049). This result is indicative of the existence of an association between S.mansoni and hepatitis infection. The reasons underlying this association were uncertain but the immune stastus of the infected person seems to be the main reason

Aberrant antigen expression in acute leukemia: A single center study in Saudi Arabia

    No full text
Abstract: Appropriate clinical care of hematologic malignancies depends on timely and accurate diagnosis. The category of cancers known as acute leukemias is diverse, with each disease having a unique clinical presentation, prognosis, and preferred course of therapy. The majority of morphologic and cytochemical characteristics were used in historical categorization systems, but currently, immunophenotypic, cytogenetic, and molecular data are included to construct clinically useful diagnostic classifications. When combined with morphologic evaluation, multiparameter flow cytometry quickly and precisely determines antigen expression profiles in acute leukemias, which frequently supports a specific diagnosis or a limited differential. Because numerous recurrent molecular or cytogenetic abnormalities are linked to distinctive immunophenotypic characteristics, flow cytometry is a crucial tool for guiding additional testing. Even within a single acute leukemia subtype, the identification of certain antigens may have prognostic or therapeutic significance. The immunophenotypic fingerprint of a leukemia after first diagnosis serves as a helpful guide to track treatment response, minimal residual disease, and recurrence. Objective: To evaluate flowcytometry role in distinguishing acute myeloid leukemia (AML) from ALL using CD markers. Material and methods: This is retrospective study conducted in King Fahad Medical City in Riyadh city, in the period between November to December 2019 on patients with acute leukemia diagnosis. Conclusion: Accurate acute leukemia diagnosis and categorization depend on immunophenotypic analysis. Multiparameter flow cytometry offers a quick and efficient way to gather these data, as well as prognostic data and a technique for assessing minimal residual illness. Keywords: Appropriate clinical care, accurate diagnosis, leukemias, cytochemical characteristics. Abstract: In late 2019, the first COVID-19 case was announced. Subsequently, numerous other instances were found all around the world. On March 2, 2020, the first case was reported in Saudi Arabia. The Saudi government has taken several precautions to stop the spread of this pandemic sickness. Closing public and private schools and universities and moving educational activity to online platforms were two of these approaches. whether they are the 21 public pharmacy schools in Saudi Arabia or the. These abrupt transitions had an impact on 8 people, and depending on their level of preparedness, they responded differently. Here, we discuss the elements of the pharmacy school curriculum, including classroom instruction, laboratory work, and experiential learning, based on our experience at King Saud University. Pediatric Unilateral Chronic Sinusitis: Clinical and Radiological Patterns Compared to Adults

    No full text
Introduction: Upper respiratory tract infections and sinusitis are more prevalent in children than in adults. Unilateral sinusitis is not uncommon disease. Our aim was to analyze the disease characteristics in children with unilateral sinusitis and compare them with those of adults.Materials and Methods: This study included 124 patients with unilateral chronic sinusitis divided according to age into two groups: pediatric group ≤18 years (66 cases) and adult group >18 years (58 cases). The groups were compared in terms of demographic data, side, clinical manifestations and radiological findings. Results: In pediatric patients, the most common inflammatory pathology was antrochoanal polyps, followed by allergic fungal sinusitis. On the other hand, chronic sinusitis without nasal polyps is the most common in adults, followed by antrochoanal polyps. The mean duration of clinical manifestations before diagnosis in pediatric patients was significantly shorter than that in adults (P=0.001). The most common symptoms in both pediatric and adult patients were anterior nasal discharge and nasal obstruction. Proptosis was significantly higher in pediatric group than in adult group (P=0.015). On computed tomography (CT), the most commonly affected sinus in both pediatric and adult patients was the maxillary sinus followed by the anterior ethmoid sinus. Bone expansion, erosion and involvement of adjacent structures were significantly higher in pediatric patients (P=0.028, 0.027 respectively). Conclusion: Pediatric patients have a high incidence of antrochoanal polyps and allergic fungal sinusitis as unilateral inflammatory lesions. These lesions require surgical management. Inflammatory paranasal sinus lesions in pediatric patients have a shorter duration of clinical manifestations and a higher incidence of bone erosion and involvement of adjacent structures; therefore, early diagnosis and management prevent complications
