    Mori Yoshiro: Man and Politician

    No full text
The article is devoted to life and activities of Mori Yoshiro, one of the most distinguished and colorful politicians of contemporary Japan. The article addresses Yoshiro’s childhood and youth years, when his interest to sport was revealed, and, first of all, to rugby. This, in many aspects, assisted the formation of his views on relations between people. Considerable attention is devoted to the role of Yoshiro’s father in his education, to the influence of his precepts on his life choice, to the basic guidelines of his political philosophy. For forty-three years Mori, as a Member of Parliament, was in the center of political life in Japan. Fourteen times he was a winner in the election to the highest legislative body of Japan. He occupied the leading posts in the Liberal Democratic party, and once was the head of the Cabinet. He is known as a proponent of active Japan-Russian relations and a supporter of a compromise-based solution of the territorial problem. Upon retirement from political career, he plays a big role in Japan’s public life. Since 2014, he is the Chairman of the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games of 2020. The author focuses on the achievements and difficulties in Mori’s life way

English translation of the certificate. The original certificate in Japanese is found in item: csudh_tsu_0012. This certificate was requested by Tsugitada Kanamori, addressed to Nakao Ito, the Mayor of Yokohama City Naka Ward, to certify that Yoshiro Okubo is a welfare commissioner at Bojyo-kai Fifth District. Nakao Ito certifies that the information provided, namely that Yoshiro Okubo is a welfare commissioner, is confirmed. The translator is Henry Tanisaki, Manager, Japan Chemical Service. This collection contains one box of documents belonging to Tsugitada Kanamori. Materials in this collection mostly pertain to Kanamori’s efforts regarding canceling his renunciation and reinstating his American citizenship

Self-Sustained Divertor Oscillation Driven by Magnetic Island Dynamics in Torus Plasma

    No full text
0000-0001-5669-1937A new type of self-sustained divertor oscillation is discovered in the Large Helical Device stellarator, where the peripheral plasma is detached from material diverters by means of externally applied perturbation fields. The divertor oscillation is found to be a self-regulation of an isolated magnetic field structure (the magnetic island) width induced by a drastic change in a poloidal inhomogeneity of the plasma radiation across the detachment-attachment transitions. A predator-prey model between the magnetic island width and a self-generated local plasma current (the bootstrap current) is introduced to describe the divertor oscillation, which successfully reproduces the experimental observationsjournal articl

Characteristics and causes of voltage observed at the current feeder of high-temperature superconducting WISE conductor

ORCID 0000-0002-3541-6298The HTS (high-temperature superconducting) conductor is a feasible candidate for constructing magnets for next-generation fusion devices because of its higher critical current in a high magnetic field. A new concept of the HTS-WISE (Wound and Impregnated Stacked Elastic tapes) conductor has been studied aiming to apply the fusion reactor magnet. Here, the WISE-U conductor is composed of stacked thirty REBCO tapes (10 mm width, 65 μm thickness, Ic = 370 A @77 K, s.f.) wrapped by a stainless-steel coil tube which is inserted into the metal pipe. The 4 m-long REBCO tapes are folded with a radius of curvature of 35 mm in a hairpin-like structure. A low-melting-point metal U-Alloy 60 whose melting point is 60°C is poured into the pipe for impregnation to make the non-insulation conductor. The REBCO tapes and the current feeder made of oxygen-free copper were also impregnated with the U-Alloy 60 to connect. This fabrication method has the advantage of being easier to fabricate than the technique of connecting each tape using indium foil. The energization test results showed that a maximum current value of 16.9 kA was recorded at B = 5 T and T = 30 K, however, a burnout occurred in the current feeder before the critical current was determined. Then, the improved WISE conductor has been designed and tested which showed a maximum of 19kA was reached in the self-field and 20K. However, burnout still occurred in the current feeder section. In those experiments, the superconducting section has not been damaged at all. If this burnout had been avoided, a higher current-carrying capacity could have been obtained. Identifying the cause of burnout and improving the current feeder is required.journal articl

Two certificates are included: A certificate form submitted by Tsugitada Kanamori to the Mayor of Yokohama City Naka Ward. Kanamori requested to certify that Yoshiro Okubo was a welfare commissioner of Yokohama City Naka Ward Bojyo-kai Fifth District in 1958 and Nakao Ito, Mayor of Yokohama City Naka Ward, certified it on July 21, 1958. English translation of the certificate is found in item: csudh_tsu_0013; and another certificate form submitted by Tsugitada Kanamori with a witness's signature, Ayako Shirai, on July 18, 1958 to Yoshio Okubo, Welfare Commissioner. Kanamori requested Okubo to certify that Tsugitada Kanamori had been unemployed since April 1951 to present due to his illness. On July 18, 1958, Yoshio Okubo, Welfare Commissioner, certified it.This collection contains one box of documents belonging to Tsugitada Kanamori. Capital Budgeting/Project Selection by Mathematical Programming: An Annotated Bibliography

    No full text
This document is an outgrowth of research undertaken as part of the author\u27s Doctoral studies in the Organizational Sciences. A portion of the work was completed in partial fulfillment of requirements for a readings course in Operations Research, taken in the spring semester, 1969, under Dr. Yoshiro Kuratani. The motivation behind both the course work and the subsequent effort was purely personal: the comprehensive survey of literature relevant to the application of mathematical programming methods in corporate planning, anticipating the preparation of a dissertation in this subject area

Stability of Externally Driven Magnetic Islands in a Helical Plasma

    No full text
Influence of external resonant magnetic perturbation (RMP) on a helical plasma is numerically investigated, using a set of reduced magnetohydrodynamic equations. Coexistence of the resistive interchange mode and RMP is simulated. In nonlinear simulations, saturated magnetic islands by the RMP typically show two states: oscillating small islands and locked large islands. In the former state, rotation of magnetic islands by neoclassical transport-driven poloidal flows disturbs growth of islands. On the other hand, in the latter state, locking of poloidal flows due to the RMP and growth of islands occur simultaneously. It is found that the curvature driven current enhances magnetic reconnection, and width of the large islands overcomes that of vacuum islands.journal articl
