Multi agent control for space based interferometry
Agent systems have been accepted and used advantageously by computer scientists sincetheir inception, but such systems have not been used so readily within the realms of controlengineering or robotics. The work contained within this thesis investigates separatedspacecraft interferometry in the context of a multi-agent system, under the influence of librationpoint orbital dynamics. The main focus is on the development of key agent skills,including state estimation, guidance, control and decision methods to attain the desiredsystem output; within the consideration of decision methods, a comparison between centralizedand distributed decisions is made. Whilst mainly focussing on the developmentof these skills, additional considerations pertinent to agent system development are alsodiscussed.A discrete time control method, integrating Kalman filtering with sliding mode controland using potential function guidance to achieve velocity tracking with six degrees offreedom, is developed for the purposes of controlling agent motion. Whilst developed forthe purposes of spacecraft agent control, the presented methods are equally valid to anyother vehicular agent system such as UAVs or AUVs if considering inter-agent regulation.Centralized and distributed decision methods are developed to enable appropriate autonomousactions to be performed by the agent system. Primarily these actions includeselective attainment and regulation of a non-natural orbits relative to a central agent toform an appropriate array configuration and instances of array reconfiguration to compensatefor both failed agents and to maximize the mission duration

The British started organised tea plantations in India in 1839 with seeds brought from China. Although indigenous tea Camellia sinesis var assamica, was grown since times immemorial by the tribals in forests of Upper Assam, but its quality, was not recognized until 1839, when it was first sold at London auctions. Today India is the largest producer of tea, averaging 842 million kg or 26% of global production, grown in 129,027 holdings, 92% of which are less than 10 ha. North India contributes 3/4th of total production with 1/4th coming from South India. However, India consumes 77% of its own produce, leaving only 200 m kg for its ever-shrinking share of exports. Plate 1 shows landscapes in different regions. The decennial average of climatic parameters are graphically presentd in plates 2,3. The impact of development on changing landscape is illustrated in plates 4 and 5.
India has strong tradition of R&D in tea. Tocklai, established in 191 1, is the oldest and largest tea research institute in the world. The next, UPASl was founded in 1926, DTRC in 1976 and IHBT in 1984. Their impact on their member tea growers is quantified. Global supply of tea is 3% more than the demand, which has depressed prices by 25%. Combined with spiraling costs of production, the un-remunerative prices have thrown Indian tea industry in an unprecedented economic crisis, which would leave ugly pugmarks on the face of the organized tea industry in India . Its impact will certainly linger for a long time. This paper suggests strategies for scientific management of the crisis
Quantum nature of Gaussian discord : experimental evidence and role of system-environment correlations

The project was supported within the framework of the BMBF grant “QuORep” and in the framework of the International Max Planck Partnership (IMPP) with Scottish Universities.We provide experimental evidence of quantum features in bipartite states classified as entirely classical according to a conventional criterion based on the Glauber P function but possessing nonzero Gaussian quantum discord. Their quantum nature is experimentally revealed by acting locally on one part of the discordant state. We experimentally verify and investigate the effect of discord increase under the action of local loss and link it to the entanglement with the environment. Adding an environmental system purifying the state, we unveil the flow of quantum correlations within a global pure system using the Koashi-Winter inequality. For a discordant state generated by splitting a state in which the initial squeezing is destroyed by random displacements, we demonstrate the recovery of entanglement highlighting the role of system-environment correlations.Peer reviewe
