Congressional ideology and administrative oversight in the New Deal era

    No full text
Historians of the U.S. Congress often draw claims from interpretations of legislators’ rhetoric and the outcomes of key votes. In this article, the author tells a cautionary tale: Such strategies ignore the correspondence between roll-call voting on select issues and broader coalitional structures in Congress. He does so by examining contrary positions about a key issue during the New Deal: On the one hand, some researchers claim that reasoned congressional deliberation on the issue of administrative oversight was separate from the prevailing legislative concerns of the day. Other scholars, on the other hand, assert that the prevailing issue dimensions in Congress included administrative oversight. Using a Bayesian measurement method, Ordinary Least Squares, and probit regression, and a novel selection of roll-call data, the author tested these claims, concluding that broader coalitional structures subsumed issues of administration

    Camilo Rebelo. PARALLEL UNIVERSES

    No full text
The volume, edited by the undersigned, is the catalogue of an exhibition made in Politecnico of Milano on the works by Camilo Rebelo, one of the most significant architectural figures in the European panorama. Without any linguistic emphasis, Camilo Rebelo's architecture seems to return a new interpretation of architecture, which knows how to draw from the landscape its representativeness and at the same time its materiality, being able to return to the landscape itself, through a silent language, each time a new meaning, a new identity, a 'difference'. The images of the exhibition are not intended to be just the materialization of these words, but the compositional expressions of an ever-evolving thought, which precisely through the parallel Universes of architecture (dre-amed, designed, built), sequentially reveals its own narrative dimension. The projects collected in the catalogue reflect a dual conceptual and operational itinerary of the author: some works have actually been built and become the tangible result of his work, others remain 'suspended', almost waiting for an appropriate 'parallel universe' to be completed

Theatrum urbium italicarum by Pietro Bertelli – Bishop Hieronim Rozrażewski’s publishing undertaking during his visits to Rome

At the end of 1599, a richly illustrated book TheatrumurbiumItalicarum appeared in Venice. The author and publisher was a printer and engraver of Padua - Pietro Bertelli. According to the information provided on the front page and the dedication text, the work was donated to the bishop of Kujawy and Pomorze, Hieronim Rozrażewski (1542-1600). The following article is devoted to several key issues related to the release and influence of this publication. First, the paper focuses on the direct creators of the book: the publisher Pietro Bertelli and the identifiable creators of the various prints (Jacopo Monticolo, Francesco Bertelli). Then it presents the typology of the town depictions, their iconographic representations and direct provenance. Establishing their origins and linking them with the real influence of Bertelli's publication on the illustration material of a number of later publishing undertakings allowed for determining Theatrum's importance in the development of a modern veduta. The text also discusses the problem of the origins of the book and the Polish hierarch’s involvement in this entire undertaking.Z końcem 1599 roku w Wenecji ukazała się bogato ilustrowana książka Theatrum urbium Italicarum.
