Veira, D. M., Chapinal, N. and Nadalin, A. 2011. Short Communication: Does the presence of the cow influence the absorption of immunoglobulins by the neonatal dairy calf? Can. J. Anim. Sci. 91: 349–352. Holstein calves were kept with their dams for 0.5, 6 or 24 h after birth. Calves were fed 85 g colostrum kg–1 birth weight 1 h after birth, and were prevented from suckling their dam. At 24 h, all calves had similar serum IgG levels indicating that the presence of their dam had no effect on IgG absorption. </jats:p

Between the oak and the doves: changes in the sanctuary of Dodona over the centuries

    No full text
This paper aims to show the kind of changes which the sanctuary of Dodona experienced over the centuries. Changes in the cults, in the people involved there and in the form of the sacred space. This can be seen in its cults, the people that have worked there and its development as a sacred space. Dodona is a good example of a multifunctional place; over time the site has not only been used for cultic practices, but politics and sports. In this respect, also economic aspects must be considered. An interdisciplinary approach, considering literature, epigraphy and archaeology (including landscape archaeology) is used to track these changes.Ministerio de Economía y CompetitividadDepto. de Prehistoria, Historia Antigua y ArqueologíaFac. de Geografía e HistoriaTRUEpu

Territory and Boundaries. The Role of Molossian Sanctuaries

    No full text
The Molossian area of ancient Epirus shows how religious centers could have played a significant role in the definition of the frontiers of the communities that inhabited this territory. In order to offer a complete view of this aspect, the main points of the historical development of this region are explained first, as well as the kind of organization of the Molossian population. After that, those settlements that are considered as cult sites are examined. It is worth pointing out that the sanctuary of Dodona is not considered here as a similar site, owing to the fact that it cannot be analyzed as a local religious center, because its significance must be understood within a pan-Molossian, pan-Epirote and Hellenic perspective. However, there is a short approach of the relationship between Dodona and the other sanctuaries. Finally, the hypothesis of those sacred places as a key point in the territorial organization is presented. Chapinal-Heras Diego. Territory and Boundaries. The Role of Molossian Sanctuaries.
