No full textInnlegg/ presentasjon holdt på Artistic Research Forum i Kristiansand, oktober 2015.I am an Artistic Research Fellow at Oslo National Academy of the arts, the Academy of Theatre. I am a playwright, author and dramaturge, and my research is in the field of performative text.
My background is as an author. I had my first novel published in 1992, and my first play commissioned and staged in 1999.
Since then I have strived to understand the performative aspects of text production. Written traditional plays and worked across the field. I have worked with dramatic installations, radio plays, and texts for the web. Written librettos and done a series of interdisciplinary work.
Since 2012 I’ve worked as a dramaturge at Hålogaland Teater, and curated a series of twenty one laboratories for the performing arts under the heading ArtLab.
My method for working is exploratory. I switch between writing solo, doing workshop with actors, and more experimental and collaborative work.
A fascination for the voice and its affective expressiveness is often at the core of my work. I’m interested in multi focus, parallell stories and imperative adresses.
In my fellowship I plan to produce texts that resemble traditional dramatic texts, voice-collages and dramatic installation work. As I see it, these processes will go hand in hand with more reflective activities

I have called my research from 1:100 - and back again.
I have given myself the task to explore how to write a play, or plays - that presents a multitude of perspectives. Polyvocal texts that has at its core the fact that we live in communities. Together. To look at that which influences “us” – not just me.
My main question is: What can a play written from such a perspective look like? How do I write it, and what kind of ethical and formal implications will it have? And how will these implications leave their trace on the work I do and how I reflect around it?
In this presentation I write about what I have done in 2016, and present my plans for 2017

Get PDFThis text was written with a specific place in mind, and as a part of the Artistic Research project “1:100”.
It was a part of a sight specific production during the festival Quartieri dell'Arte and the Moai project. The Moai project took place in the medieval village of Vitorchiano in Italy. It was produced by the festival together with the Oslo National Academy of the Arts in August 2016 and the text was performed in Norwegian and Italian – as part of the project’s focus on poly-vocality.
The performance took place in an abandoned hotel which was situated in an old convent. In the late eighties it had been closed due to economic problems and for a period of 15 years legal charges were brought against the owner.
During the performance, the audience moved from location to location. In this version, the performer functioned as a time witness or a guide traversing events, space and time.
This text can also be performed by several actors, or by a man, a girl or a boy

No full textPlakat og foto fra forestilling15. juni 2017 var det premiere på forestillingen "Odysseen - everything is a remix" med Ida Løken Valkâepââ og DJ Runther på Rådstua Teaterhus.
"Odyseen ..." var et kollektivt skriveprosjekt. Forskningen bestod i å se hva to som skjedde når to skrivere, skuespiller Ida Løken Valkeapââ og undertegnede gikk i dialog med Homers "Odyseen".
Til sammen bidro jeg inn med en tredjedel av teksten.
DJ Rune Alexander Winther laget muskk til forestillinga der tekno møter mytisk materiale og moderne fortellerrteater.
Forestillingen ble spilt fra 15. - 22. 2017 juni på Rådstua Teaterhus i Tromsø og hadde senere nypremiere i Oslo, på Sentralen i januar 2018

No full textTre skisser skrevet for/under verkstedet, bilder fra verkstedet og en video av Ida Løken Valkeapää som jobber med materialet.En elektronikateaterkonsert inspirert av Homers epos om Odyssevs lange hjemreise - med én skuespiller og én musiker.
I en uke vil dramatiker Tale Næss, skuespiller Ida Løken Valkeapää og musiker/DJ Rune Alexander Winther arbeide med materiale fra Homers "Odysséen".
Homers tekst handler om helten Odyssevs. Han er på vei hjem etter kampene i Troja, men har fornærmet havguden Poseidon og dømmes til ti års landflyktighet før han får vende hjem til øya Ithaka og sin elskede Penelope. Eposet ble skrevet ned ca 700 år f Kr, men det bygger på en muntlig fortellertradisjon som er langt eldre, der hver formidler var med å forme materialet i møtet med sitt publikum. Opprinnelig ble diktet fremført av en skald (rapsode), antakelig til musikk. Valkeapää, Næss og Winther ønsker å videreføre denne tradisjonene, med vår tids virkemidler. Det episke diktet vil danne grunnmaterialet for tekstarbeid og for musikalske og fysiske improvisasjoner. Verkstedet har som fokus å utvikle tekstmaterialet og finne balansen i det narrative uttrykket mellom teksten, musikken og stemmen. Målet er å lage en konsertforestilling i krysningspunktet mellom storytelling og elektronikakonsert.

«Darkness – the enemy inside» - the Oxford reading
No full textOn the 16th of June 2017, there was a reading from the Hybrid Plays project EU Collective Plays! - during the conference Translation into theatre and the Social Sciences in Oxford. The reading was the performative part of professor Paul C. Castagnos presentation at the conference and prepared in collaboration with Paul C. Castagno and Tale Næss.
THE COLLECTIVE PLAYS! - aims at promoting the creation of plays which are the result of a collaboration of playwrights of different nationalities. The playwrights meet and cooperate to create a narrative structure that is organic but at the same time incorporates different perspectives, styles, languages and idioms. In this dimension, the final play’s draft is entrust to one playwright who never tries to homologate the different styles but, on the contrary, tries to highlight their contrasts by creating a collective narrative structure which resembles a cubist painting.
The text was assembled by Tale Næss for the reading. The assemblage was based on a work for a full length play comissioned by the project. The writers behind the different text-excerpts were Sigbjørn Skåden, Kristin Èiriksdottir, Gianluca Iumiento and Tale Næss. University of Oxford 16th of June 2017
