    Diabetes melitus adalah suatu kelompok penyakit metabolik dengan karakteristik hiperglikemia yang terjadi karena kelainan sekresi insulin, kerja insulin atau kedua-duanya. Hiperglikemia kronik pada diabtes berhubungan dengan kerusakan jangka panjang, disfungsi atau kegagalan beberapa organ tubuh. Klasifikasi DM terbagi menjadi 4, DM tipe 1, DM tipe 2, DM pada kehamilan, dan DM tipe lain. Penelitian ini dilakukan terhadap pasien yang sudah terdiagnosa DM tipe 2, karna penyandang DM tipe 2 dari masyarakat yang memiliki pola hidup yang tidak baik. hbA1c adalah zat yang terbentuk dari reaksi antara glukosa dan hemoglobin. hbA1c merupakan salah satu parameter untuk menilai kontrol glikemik (kepatuhan pasien). Penelitian dengan judul Analisa Kadar HbA1c Pada Penderita Diabetes Tipe 2 Di Rumah Sakit Martha Friska Multatuli Medan bertujuan untuk menganalisa dan mengukur kadar HbA1c Pada Penderita Diabetes Tipe 2. Metode penelitian Deskriptif Cross-sectional. Bahan pemeriksaan adalah darah vena mediana cubiti dengan antikoagulan EDTA. Dari hasil pemeriksaan diperoleh 15 sampel dimana 66,6% dengan kadar HbA1c >8% dengan kriteria pengendalian DM buruk, 26,6% dengan kadar HbA1c 6-8% dengan kriteria pengendalian DM sedang, dan 6,6 % dengan kriteria pengendalian DM baik. Dari hasil penelitian ini didapat pengendalian DM di RSU Martha Friska Medan masih buruk. Untuk mendapatkan pengendalian DM yang baik, sebaiknya diabetisi melakukan pemeriksaan HbA1c setiap 3 bulan sekali sebagai bagian dari pengelolaan diabetes

    Martha Joyce Richardson Manning (1936-) is a 1973 Winthrop College graduate (Masters Degree) who was enrolled to further her career as a reading teacher at the suggestion of parents and school board members. Mrs. Manning was married the Reverend Jesse Franklin “Frank” Manning (1933-2006) and has three children at the time of her enrollment. Mrs. Manning discusses her professional life as well as her experience as a student in the education program at Winthrop. She talks about her professors, her rigorous class load, and the College president, Dr. Charles B. Vail (president from 1973-1982). Mrs. Manning graduated with a “Reading Teacher Award,” and took a test to receive a certification that allowed her to teach reading from elementary to college levels in South Carolina. She discusses how Winthrop helped her to further her passion for education.
