Finite element prediction of the ultimate axial load capacity of V-section band clamps
Band clamps with a flat bottomed V-section are used to connect a pair of circular flanges to provide a joint with significant axial strength. Despite the wide application of Vband clamps, their behaviour is not fully understood and the ultimate axial strength is currently only available from physical testing. This physical testing has indicated that the ultimate strength is determined by two different types of structural deformation, an elastic deformation
mode and a plastic deformation mode. Initial finite element analysis work has demonstrated
that analysis of this class of problem is not straightforward. This paper discusses the difficulties encountered when simulating this type of component interaction where contact is highly localised and contact pressures are high

To what extent are the retinal capillaries ensheathed by Muller cells? A stereological study in the tree shrew Tupaia belangeri
The cellular ensheathment of capillaries in the 3 outer capillary layers of the central retina of the adult tree shrew Tupaia belangeri was studied quantitatively by transmission electron microscopy. Using a stereological approach, the relative surface of capillary basal lamina ensheathed by Muller cells and by nonmacroglial cells (collectively termed non-Muller cells) was estimated in 5 animals. The participation of Muller cells was distinctly different in the 3 capillary layers studied. In the outermost capillary layer 1, the mean (standard deviation) percentage surface coverage by non-Muller cell processes was 46.8 (15.3)%. Much less of the capillary basal lamina was ensheathed by non-Muller cells in capillary layers 2 and 3 (3.0 (2.1)% and 0.3 (0.3)% respectively). The observed total variation of the stereological estimates for the surface fraction of Muller cells (expressed as the between-subject coefficient of variation) was significantly higher in capillary layer 1 (28.8%) compared with capillary layers 2 (2.2%) and 3 (0.3%). In capillary layer 1, the high observed total variation was due to a high biological variation among animals for the fractions of both Muller cell and non-Muller cell ensheathment. The rare occurrence of direct contacts between the capillary basal lamina and the perikarya of either microglial cells (capillary layer 3) or amacrine cells (capillary layer 2) corresponded well to the low stereological values obtained for the relative capillary surface ensheathed by non-Muller cells in these capillary layers. Previously, extensive and frequent contacts between the basal lamina of capillaries belonging to capillary layer 1 and horizontal cells had been observed in single sections. The present study quantitatively demonstrates a marked paucity of macroglial investment of capillaries located in capillary layer 1 of Tupaia. It can be concluded that horizontal cells ensheath most of the capillary surface not invested by Muller cells

Behavioural mHealth in developing countries: what about culture?
International audienceIn the absence of political action to address behavioural health in many developing countries (Lachat et al., 2013) one could suggest to simply make use of infrastructure that is already available – the mobile technology infrastructure. This seems sensible considering that modern mobiletechnology has reached almost every person on our planet. Additionally, the digital divide between developed and developing countries is closing and in 2016 95% of the global population has access to a mobile phone network while the number of mobile broadband subscriptions grows rapidlyespecially in developing countries (International Telecommunication Union, 2016). Mobile technology ownership is also not limited to any specific demographic because it is increasingly affordable and hence, there is potential to utilise behavioural mHealth approaches to successfully deal with NCDs in developing countries (Beratarrechea et al., 2014; Stephani, Opoku, & Quentin, 2016)
Patristical Ideas in the Works of Matthias of Janov
ANGLICKÁ ANOTACE Title: Patristical ideas in the works of Matthias of Janov The thesis treats of the identification of ideas of church fathers in the work and thinking of Matthias of Janov. The thesis consits of three main parts. First part deals with Matthias of Janov in broader context of church tradition. Major political and theological developments that could have an impact on Matthias theological work are presented in this section. Second part introduces life of Matthias of Janov and identifies his major theological contributions. In the third part of the thesis, following explanation of methodology used, the findings of the author are presented. Three areas were selected by the author and researched in view of the identification of possible influance of church fathers in the Matthias of Janov work: the idea of Antichrist, frequent eucharisty and condemnation of idolatry. The findings confirm a strong influance of Augustin and Hieronymus in particular and other early church fathers on the formation of the theology of Matthias of Janov in all three areas of the study. It was also noticed that through the church fathers Matthias of Janov was strongly influenced by neoplatonism which was documented on his idea of "The First Thruth" Key words: Matthias of Janov, church fathers, antichrist, eucharisty,..
Foreign Policy of King Matthias Corvinus from 1464 to 1490
(1477). U petom poglavlju autor daje kratki pregled Matijaševih odnosa s papinstvom, a u šestom pregled ratovanja s Osmanlijama tijekom sedamdesetih i osamdesetih godina XV. stoljeća. Deseto poglavlje daje pregled političkih aktivnosti tijekom posljednjih godina njegove vladavine. Jedanaesto poglavlje analizira Matijaševu vojsku. Rad završava kratkim pregledom posljednica kraljeve burne politike. This article is the second part of a longer paper in which the author reviews the very complex foreign policy of Hungarian-Croatian king Matthias Corvinus. In this paper the author analyses major events from Matthias’ coronation in the spring of 1464 until his sudden death in Vienna in the spring of 1490. The whole paper and analysis of events are based on research of various sources and literature. In the first chapter the author describes the failed attempt of Pope Pius II to organize a crusade against the Ottoman Empire in 1464 and Matthias’ own actions against the Turks with the main goal of strengthening his southeastern borders. In the second chapter the author analyses the conflict between Matthias and his ex-father-in-law, George of Poděbrady, and the war between them (1468–1471). In the third chapter the author gives a short overview of the uprising of magnates and the aristocracy against the central rule of King Matthias (1472). The fourth chapter deals with the war for the Bohemian throne from 1471 to 1479 and the war against Frederick III in 1477. In the next chapter the author gives a brief overview of the diplomatic relations between popes and Matthias Corvinus over a longer period of time, from 1464 to 1490. The main subject of the sixth chapter is the war against the Ottoman Empire during the seventh and eighth decade of the 15th century. In the seventh chapter the author describes Matthias’ search for his next wife and his marriage to Beatrice of Aragon. In the following chapter the author reviews Matthias’ new war against Frederick III for the title of the German Empire. The ninth chapter is a brief overview of Matthias’ foreign policy in the Italian states and Venice during the last decade of his life. The tenth chapter is dedicated to the final years of Matthias’ life. The next chapter analyses one of the most important segments of his foreign policy – his army. This article ends with short overview of the events which happened after the death of King Matthias and the consequences of his stormy policy
Text messaging for exercise promotion in older adults from an upper-middle-income country: randomized controlled trial
Background: Mobile technology to promote exercise is effective; however, most evidence is from studies of younger groups in high-income countries. Investigating if short message service (SMS) texting can affect exercise participation in older adults from an upper-middle-income country is important considering the proliferation of mobile phones in developing regions and the increased interest of older adults in using mobile phones. Objective: The main objective was to examine the short- and long-term effects of SMS text messaging on exercise frequency in older adults. Secondary objectives were to investigate how SMS text messages impact study participants’ exercise frequency and the effects of the intervention on secondary outcomes. Methods: The Malaysian Physical Activity for Health Study (myPAtHS) was a 24-week, 2-arm, parallel randomized controlled trial conducted in urban Malaysia. Participants were recruited via health talks in resident associations and religious facilities.Older Malaysians (aged 55-70 years) who used mobile phones and did not exercise regularly were eligible to participate in the study. Participants randomly allocated to the SMS texting arm received an exercise booklet and 5 weekly SMS text messages over 12 weeks. The content of the SMS text messages was derived from effective behavior change techniques. The non-SMS texting arm participants received only the exercise booklet. Home visits were conducted to collect outcome data: (1) exercise frequency at 12 and 24 weeks, (2) secondary outcome data (exercise self-efficacy, physical activity–related energy expenditure, sitting time, body mass index, grip and leg strength) at baseline and at 12 and 24 weeks. Intention-to-treat procedures were applied for data analysis. Semistructured interviews focusing primarily on the SMS text messages and their impact on exercise frequency were conducted at weeks 12 and 24.Results: In total, 43 participants were randomized into the SMS texting arm (n=22) and the non-SMS texting arm (n=21). Study-unrelated injuries forced 4 participants to discontinue after a few weeks (they were not included in any analyses). Overall retention was 86% (37/43). After 12 weeks, SMS texting arm participants exercised significantly more than non-SMS texting arm participants (mean difference 1.21 times, bias-corrected and accelerated bootstrap [BCa] 95% CI 0.18-2.24). Interview analysis revealed that the SMS text messages positively influenced SMS texting arm participants who experienced exercise barriers. They described the SMS text messages as being encouraging, a push, and a reminder. After 24 weeks, there was no significant difference between the research arms (mean difference 0.74, BCa 95% CI –0.30 to 1.76). There were no significant effects for secondary outcomes. Conclusions: This study provides evidence that SMS text messaging is effective in promoting exercise in older adults from an upper-middle-income country. Although the effects were not maintained when SMS text messaging ceased, the results are promising and warrant more research on behavioral mobile health interventions in other regions.Trial Registration: Clinicaltrials.gov NCT02123342; http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT0212334
